“Perfect Honeymoon!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

We decided upon Curtain Bluff as the destination for our honeymoon on the back of the reviews on Tripadvisor and we are so glad we chose it. From the very moment we landed the service was excellent, the hotel organised a taxi to pick us up from the airport which arrived very promptly and took us on the 30min transfer to the hotel. Antigua itself is very beautiful.

Once we arrived at the hotel the service was as you would expect from a luxury hotel, we were offered cold towels, a drink and our bags were taken from the taxi to our room. The check in service was plain and simple and within no time we were ready to take a look around our new home from home. We weren't disappointed, the hotel was as we expected and were liked our room, we maybe would have preferred one a bit further up the Bluff (we had Room 59) but it was still a very nice room. Note, the rooms up the bluff all have a number of steps to get to them so if you are looking to book one of these then bear that in mind.

Scuba Diving:

The instructors we had Junior, Jensen and Bush were all very good there are around 5 different dive sites around Curtain Bluff and they do diving every day between 9-10 unfortunately this is the only time they do it, but for us this worked fine was a great way to start the day. The sites themselves are good, not the most amazing sites to dive ever but definitely not the worst and tie this with the fact we saw loads of fish, lobsters and even managed to see a shark, a turtle and a sting ray all in all excellent scuba diving made even better by the instructors themselves.

Hobi Cats:

My wife and I hadn't done this before, so we had 2 lessons with the instructors and then went out on our own as well, was great fun and definitely something to do if you get chance

Water Skiing:

Once again all the instructors we had on this were excellent and by the end of it I had managed to get up and stay up as well, so that is testament to the Guys but once again to have this included and allowed to do it as much as you like was fantastic.

We found the food to be excellent, whilst we were there (and I believe it does change) the breakfast was from an al a carte menu and you could order everything from fruit platter, full English to pancakes. We would recommend the banana pancakes and the eggs benedict (not together....) both were excellent! But it all seemed very good and as always the service was excellent.
The lunch menu was also very good, this was a hybrid of an al a carte menu which didn't change but had a wide range of things on it like club sandwiches, burgers etc to the buffet selection which was a big salad bar and then a mix of BBQ chicken, fish with various other main choices eg. chicken curry. Overall the lunch menu was fantastic and probably our favourite meal of the day.
For dinner once again it was an al carte menu although it was fairly limited in choice, and tended to be fairly similar from day to day although they do have 2 restaurants with the Sea Grape one being open 3 or 4 nights a week and this provide a good alternative. Although in both the food was good, we didn't find it had the wow factor we maybe be expected, but as mentioned the food was still good quality.

Obviously all the drinks are inclusive apart from the wines on the wine list, I found the beer very good and my wife found the spirits to be very good as well including Grey Goose Vodka which was nice to see. A lot of the spirits that some hotels would charge a premium for were included, which was very refreshing to see. The only slight negative was we found the house white and red not to our taste, but that could be more us then anything else, the Rose on the other hand was very good.

Overall one of the massive plus points for Curtain Bluff is the overall service and this is from every member of staff you meet in the resort all the way from Chelle as the owner through all the various members of staff they are all very helpful and always have a smile on their face and happy to help. The attention to detail was very good, and the general level of service was the best we'd come across in our travels.

As mentioned we had room 59 and found this to be a very good room, although maybe would have liked one further up the bluff but only because the views get even better. The size of the room was very good, the bed itself was a good size and we had both a shower and a bath. The one negative on the room front for us was getting the mini bar stocked up, it seemed to take a number of phone calls to make this happen and to be honest I would expect someone to notice what we had drunk, and therefore liked, and re-stock that but a very minor point.

If booking a room on the Bluff and if you're Ok with steps ask for one as high up the bluff as possible, although all the rooms seem to be very good from listening to other guests. Overall recommendation if you're reading this review and therefore looking to book Curtain Bluff would be to just do it, we did the same thing and didn't regret it one bit in fact would recommend it to anyone and would love to return at some point in the very near future.

Room Tip: Rooms: As mentioned we had room 59 and found this to be a very good room, although maybe would ha...

I have just finished a weeks stay at one of the most beautiful resorts in the world. From the moment I arrived I was treated like royalty. The service staff is some of the most professional anywhere. The beaches and pool were astonishing. The food was perfectly prepared and presented. I strongly recommend Curtain Bluff as a vacation site.

We've traveled to many islands in the Caribbean but this was our first time to Antigua. We recently had a child four months ago and the hotel was very accommodating. When we arrived they had a crib in the room with breathe taking views at was on the beach. We loved the fact that we didnt have to leave the room to enjoy the beach while our infant was fast asleep. The service and staff was very friendly and helpful. The Food was excellent, their menu was always a variety of options for any kind of appetite or diet. The free water sports, snorkeling, scuba diving, and deep sea fishing was an unexpected bonus. At most other place those things come with an healthy fee. in Conclusion, this place is very accommodating for small children, fun teens(all), and romantic for couples. I didn't want to write the review because I found paradise very beautiful and private and I wanted to keep it an secret.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms are beach front you cant go wrong. Choice bottom floor you can walk on to beach f...

We must express our special thanks to the management and staff at Curtain Bluff for a very special weekend.

Though we live on the island when we got behind the walls of Curtain Bluff it was clear that we were away at another home away from home.

From the security entrance to reception is was clear that we were expected and the ease of check-in with our luggage disappearing to our room was just special.

Every member of staff was a host and before long we were basking in the glory of being looked after by Al, the barman who "managed" my drinks.

By dinner time we were truly relaxed and able to enjoy a special meal served with the same high quality of attention.

Our beach experience was rich as we strolled out to relax on the day chairs and rock in the hammock. But it was the water that really worked on us. The pounding waves outside our room served as a lullaby, while the gentle beach gave us a massage that prepared us for lunch and more relaxation.

Again, the service beach-side was excellent with Leon plying us with drinks in a steady flow followed up by a sumptuous lunch that was just right for day time sustenance.

We must put in a word for the other guests we met. People who have been coming back again and again to Curtain Bluff and one couple who were there for the first time. They all thoroughly enjoyed the spirit that pervaded the resort and its clear that they will just keep coming.

And to top it off the nightly entertainment was tops. From the Hondels, a rich blend of music that complimented the dinner fare on Saturday evening. Charisma had us dancing and singing the Sunday night away with their spectacular singers/dancers and outstanding musicianship. Our only regret is that we will miss their Tuesday night performance.

And to think we did not use any of the extra treats such as the spa and the water sports since we were already relaxed and resting well.

So if you hear that we are boasting about Curtain Bluff to our friends don't be surprised when they turn up our your doorstep looking for the pleasures we enjoyed.

Julian and Alison.

We just had a wonderful trip to Curtain Bluff for their annual Tennis Week. Great staff, great food and great music. We had a bunch of new people join us this year and everyone felt welcome. We decided to have a relaxing fun beach day and the beach staff was more than willing to help make this happen. We made several new friends and had an incredible time. This is by far my favorite week of the year, best hotel ever!

I cannot remember the last time I was more disappointed with a hotel.

First lets be clear, this is not a luxury hotel. The hotel itself could be described as tired but that really is being a little too charitable as it is simply outdated. The reception area is a small and a rather uninspiring introduction to the hotel but more importantly the main communal areas including the bar and restaurant are just old fashioned and disappointing. The bar area is particularly depressing as it is also dark with old fashioned furniture. The sitting room is OK, nothing special however the carpets were dirty.

We stayed in the Grace Bay suite (the largest room) and unfortunately the theme continued. Again it was tired and outdated and just a bit shoddy in places. Some of the fixtures and fittings such as lights and cupboards were old and rickety and the workmanship in the bathroom was not always good. In the bathroom there was one wall that needed to be repainted, the fixtures were corroded and grouting was smeared over a number of the wall and floor tiles. It is a bit like going back to an old hotel in the UK where lots of effort is made with white towels but the fact is it just needs replacing with something more modern.

The carpet in the master bedroom was also dirty and sticky and wearing the room slippers was necessary. On the positive side though the sitting room was a good size and comfortable to sit in. This is an example of how things don't always have to be like hotels in Dubai but can still work.

However moving on to the service sadly I have to revert to a more negative tack. The rooms are cleaned but not to a very high standard. The floor was a bit sticky at times, things were not always tidied up and the mini bar was left almost empty for a number of days. Room service was also slow with a simple cup of tea taking 45 minutes to arrive on one occasion. The real low point for room service though was the food. The problem here it is supplied from the main restaurant and the food there is not good. After the second meal from room service we decided not to use it again.

We eat at the main restaurant on a number of occasions because the other restaurant was not always open. The food here really is unimpressive and on a number of occasions the children in particular left their meal unfinished ( something that is not usually allowed ). The choice of food for children was also very poor but in the past even more adult dishes if cooked well they have liked. The reality is the kitchen in the main restaurant is simply more like a canteen in quality and is very disappointing. Again to balance things out the restaurant by the beach is noticeably better but unfortunately it is not open every evening and you are forced to use the “canteen”. However the truth is we did not have one meal in the entire 9 days were we thought "wow - that was great". In terms of lunch you eat each day at the beach restaurant which is OK and is probably adequate for during the day when you don't want anything too fancy.

So trying to be a bit more positive what is good about the hotel?. Well, the beach is nice and the water sports are very good with hobbie cats, surf boards, kayaks and pedloes. The kids really enjoyed this aspect of the hotel which is obviously an important one. In addition to the above there was also water skiing and doughnut type rides as well as twice daily snorkelling trips put on by the hotel. Overall the water sports were very good which was ultimately one of the main reasons we booked the hotel. However in keeping with earlier problems the doughnut rides had holes in them and were only available for one of the days we were there. This last point is very indicative of a hotel that really not making every effort to ensure that everything runs efficiently.

Furthermore while the beach is quite nice in terms of service it was unfortunately also a bit disappointing. There is no one there to help with loungers and someone only came round with drinks twice a day. Neither of these issues are a disaster but just something that you would expect in a luxury hotel. However what was really unimpressive was that when I did get offered a drink and I asked for a can of coke I was told that they only served draft coke. This is something I forgot to mention. In the dark, depressing 1970's type bar they only served draft coke and lemonade etc. They tasted really low quality and like the food were left unfinished.

Lastly, overall the service at the hotel is satisfactory but not very professional. A number of the staff were pleasant and some were a bit indifferent but overall you never really felt that the service was what you expected.

I have never written a report on trip adviser before but am doing so because the hotel was such a disappointment given the cost. I have tried to be fair but essentially we went there for a nice beach holiday in a luxury hotel with good water sports. However what we experienced was a 3.5 star hotel. Unfortunately there is nothing sophisticated or refined about the hotel and the image on the website of it being a luxury hotel is simply all "Bluff". The general manager has been there for 35 years and it shows as the hotel clearly needs fresh eyes, updating and the standard of the service and the food to be increased. Basically the hotel seems very complacent and appears to be trading on it’s old customer base. However it fails to realise that the standard of hotels generally has increased significantly over recent years and that there are many alternatives which we will certainly be using in future.

We didn't think it was possible - but Curtain Bluff got even better than our last visit 2 years ago. The all-inclusive format and scheduling of the days promote health, wellness and optimal relaxation. We went with friends who are intense workaholics, and after our first night there, everyone became so relaxed that we were able to fully enjoy our days at the resort (and we started on the right foot - booked a massage in their incredible spa as soon as we checked in, what a hot tub). The rooms are beautiful and spacious, we stayed in the Junior Suites on the 2nd level with balconies overlooking the waves of the Surf Beach. The food is world-class - love the new beach-side Italian restaurant! Portions are just-right. We never felt over-stuffed, and where would you take leftovers anyway? The lack of TV is a welcome change from our daily plugged-in routines in NYC. If you REALLY need a fix, Netflix is now available in Antigua and there's wifi literally anywhere at Curtain Bluff (yes, even the beaches). Wonderful, friendly service - everyone is courteous and respectful. The cherry on top was the "Cream of Paradise" drinks that Al at the bar mixed up for us. By golly. We hope to be back as often as we can to Curtain Bluff, especially when our nieces are a little older - we think they'll love it there.
