“Verandah hospitality personified”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2014

We had a week at the Verandah in June 2014 and found it a very well organised resort with excellent facilities and very helpful staff. Lots of fun daily activities for those who want to get involved and two secluded beaches and three pools for those who want to relax. Private balconies all with water views made the rooms a pleasure. With plenty of golf cart buses to get around the hillside resort there is no excuse not to experience every aspect. Choice of restaursnts from buffet to beachside grill, all inclusive, made it easy to plan mealtimes. Would love to go back again.

Room Tip: Most rooms are only one double bed with sofa bed so if you had older child choose the two bedroom fa...

Just got back from a five night trip to Antigua with my daughter to celebrate her graduation.
The trip from airport is about an half an hour drive. Our driver Lesley was very friendly and the drive was not bad as the hilly roads of Dominica!
The reception at the Verandah: The people at the reception were alright but if there is no male in your party watch it as your will get second class service.
The people who take care of the grounds are very friendly.
Our room 195 was very nice, clean and roomy with a fab view and central to everything. and everyday they cleaned it and made the bed.
The food: Raul in the breezes restaurant was very very friendly. the omelettes at breakfast were great!. the wait staff does not seem to want to be there. They have to be tipped Theresa was very friendly the day we tipped her then ignored us the next day. Not sure what is going on there. The food was ok not excellent. not many vegetables the coffee was terrible but a good variety of teas.
Enjoyed all three beaches. they were very clean and the towels were plentiful and clean. all beaches are public in Antigua so cannot keep the vendors away but they were not too bothersome if you are prepared for them. they will leave you alone after a while. Walked to long beach which is very close and beautiful and we took towels from the Verandah to lie on and it was great there. Some locals did come and talk to us but it was not threatening at all and got to see that they have a very different life style than us.
There is free wi fi and if you go near the main pool it is very easy to connect.
But the worst experience we had was with the person who handles the tours. Her name is Rebecca. My daughter had booked a tour on line before we got there so on the 6th we went to talk to her about the logistics of getting to the origin of the tour. She was the most rude person in the service industry I have ever encountered. When we told her we had booked the extreme tour on line she said she does not know any thing about their arrangements while a few mins before she had said that she has been doing this for 15 years and that the extreme tour was one of her favorites. She completely shut down and kept saying she does not know what to tell us! She spoilt our whole day. I am glad we did it on line as if we left it till we got there we would have not got a place as it was fully booked. It is best to book the tours on line before you go as they make arrangements for your transportation if you call them and you will not have to deal with Rebecca. The extreme tour is a must in Antigua. The people on the boat who handle the tour are great.
Checking out of the hotel was a breeze as there was no one else there checking out at the same time. Lesley took us back to the airport and the flight back was uneventful.
important: They are having cases of Chikungunya virus on the island so be very careful with the mosquitoes. It is a terrible virus to get infected with.

Room Tip: Rooms near the main pool are great as everything is close by including guest services near the pool...

We have just had our third family holiday at the Verandah and we are just as much in love with it now as we were when we first visited in 2009! If you are looking for total relaxation in the most beautiful surroundings, look no further! From start to finish the welcome from the resort's staff is warm and friendly, and the food and beverage offerings are excellent too! The breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffet at Seabreeze was delicious and featured different themes each night. Nicole's restaurant is well worth a visit too! Great service, beautiful restaurant, and mouthwatering menu. The beach bar is a great place to go too, even if it's just for a sundowner. The main attraction for my daughter was the main pool. It is simply brilliant and yet never felt overcrowded. The same can be said for the two beaches: busy but not packed. Everywhere you go feels peaceful and relaxing, and yet the resort was close to full capacity. One other aspect that always impresses us is how well the resort is maintained. It is immaculate! And the accommodation is too, and very spacious with a beautiful balcony and view. I hope we will be able to return a 4th time...and a 5th, 6th, 7th etc etc! Love it!

A beautiful location with very clean and spacious accommodation, this resort is ideal for couples and families. The staff are genuinely happy and friendly and very helpful, we were greeted with smiles and a glass of bubbly. Both beaches are clean with lovely views and the restaurants serve a good variety of food and drink. Lots of space so you don't feel on top of everyone and so e beautiful wildlife as well. We wanted a relaxing holiday and this was perfect. We went to the Sunday party at Shirley Heights which is highly recommended and the hotel organised the transport for us. We used the driver (Pat) on all our travels, very friendly and good value for money. Not much to do at St. John's unless you're doing a boat trip. Would highly recommend this resort!

Room Tip: We chose a waterfront room at additional cost but all the rooms looked to have good views due to the...

Beautiful grounds, very friendly staff and good accommodation. We used the smaller beach and it was almost deserted every day. There's a great beach bar there and loads of shade thanks to beautiful palm trees. Vera runs the beach bar and was really friendly and always ready with advice about the resort and Antigua in general. If you're looking for a relaxing holiday then this is the place for you! Only slight dissapointment, the evening entertainment was not as high quality as expected. Sometimes excellent but other times very poor. Other than that a very relaxing place to just chill out!

Room Tip: We were in 213 & 214 just the right distance between bars and smaller beach.

My parents and my partner and I went to Verandah Resort for a relaxing vacation. We were not disappointed.

The cabins were beautiful. They were clean, had lovely views on the balcony and had more than adequate space. The whole resort was truly immaculately clean.

We alternated between the water sports beach and the quiet beach. Both were lovely and had their own attractions. Although I will say the quietness as the quiet beach was never really enforced and there were often children playing there.

We never had to vie for good chairs on the beach, it always seemed like there were plenty. The water was clear and warm. On the quiet beach there was more itchy seaweed in the very shallow shore but we loved floating on the big circle rafts in the water and soaking up the sun.

The breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet were EXCELLENT. I loved the food here. My partner and I are both vegetarian and my parents are not. We all had no problem finding more than enough delicious things to eat. We also loved snacking at the beach bar in the afternoon.

The all inclusive feature definitely included drinks. The bartenders were never stingy, the drinks were strong! The only difficulty was navigating the huge steps between the sports beach and the beach bar. It would be great if they opened a bar on the sports beach.

We used kayaks and snorkeled from the sports beach and enjoyed an off site snorkeling trip as well, but generally we found it best to lay around in the sun all day.

The pool, while we did not use it much was very clean and looked lovely.

I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a very scenic trip relaxing on the beach.

Room Tip: All the rooms were almost exactly the same and the views were beautiful from all that I could see.

Stayed for a week and were both extremely impressed by the resort. Love the layout of the units - no elevators to worry about. The food was excellent and plentiful. Our room was very close to the main bar and main pool, but we had absolutely no problems with noises - the tree frogs at night serenaded us to sleep. The grounds are immaculate and are constantly being maintained.
If you are looking for a resort with lots of nightlife and discos, this isn't the place. We were looking for a relaxing getaway, and that's exactly what we got. There were a lot of families, some with young children.
The staff at the main beach were awesome - thanks to Carlos for the wonderful boat ride. There are vendors at the beach, but they did not pester you at all - a simple "no thank you" was all it took if we weren't interested.
We took food from the beach bar down to the main beach on a couple of occasions - it was never a problem. We ate at the beach bar and the main buffet restaurant, but did not dine at Nicole's or The Buccaneer - personal preference - the service at Seabreeze was fine for us.
