“Almost Perfect”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

First the positives:
Our welcome at airport, check in and attention to our specific room selection was faultless.
Our room was clean and well appointed, the added touch of the cold water jug in the refrigerator was thoughtful and appreciated
The food at the buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner was excellent and varied
The beach staff were happy to help, patient and knowledgeable
The entertainers in the evening were very talented
The mini-putt was fun and in great shape
The ‘off the grid’ operation of the resort is wonderful and encourages a good feeling
The gardeners do a magnificent job of creating and up-keeping a lush tropical paradise
The afternoon tea was an appreciated nice touch
Fantastic and plentiful beach/pool towel service
Clean washrooms
Excellent Gym facilities and equipment
Guest services office was wonderful with great hours

Some negatives:
The bar staff would rank the worst we have ever experienced at any resort, including 3 star hotels in much less expensive settings. They all were borderline rude, unhappy and left all of us with an unpleasant memory.
The service at the Buccaneer restaurant was so slow we decided not to return again and not to even bother with Nicole's. Your main pool area bar offered the choice of Pinot Grigio, our favourite wine but this was not available in the buffet or Buccaneer restaurants. We had to go ourselves to get this wine if we wanted it, a little strange to say the least.

All in all our vacation was both restful and enjoyable. We hope to return to Antigua some day and would consider returning to this resort.

Room Tip: If the price is right try to book rooms in block 21 or 22.

We usually go to Cancun or Riviera Maya, but this year our family expended so we were looking for less noisy and more kids friendly resort.
Verandah suited very well, we felt welcomed by the resort personnel and felt like we belong to this resort.
At the time of our visit(end of October 2013), approximately 50% of the visitors were with kids, 40% of visitors were retired people, and only 10% were young couples.
There was no lineups to book a restaurant, no problem to find beach chair in shade in the middle of the day. Contrary to all the other resorts we visited, there was no laud entertainment, no drunk people outside/in the pool/by the bar or on the beach.
The buffet was also different than in all other places we visited. There was no huge selection of food. The was no 15 types of salads, no 10 choices of meat, no spectacular decorations made of water melons and pineapples and so on. But everything was tasty! Every dish was fresh, eatable and cooked like home.

Excellent, quite place to rest and have fun with little kids.

I have always heard about the experience from others about them going to Verandah. So for the wife's birthday, She decided she wanted to go. I must say it quite the lovely experience, especially the food, the service, the security and the room.

Room Tip: It is quite the belly full, quite the relaxation and quite the easy going experience.

I travelled Nov 2-9, 2013 to Verandah with 7 family members. The resort is very well maintained. We stayed in Room 254. It was next to the main pool and a 2 minute walk to the main buffet and bar. The room is very spacious, has a mini kitchenette. Bathroom has a large tub. Water does spray everywhere as there is no curtain for the shower, but maybe a two foot long glass wall along the edge of the tub. Two sinks in the room. I would recommend bringing your own blow dryer.
Seabreeze restaurant (main) has the same breakfast everyday. Waffles, omelette station, French toast, pancakes, bacon, sausage, fruit, beans. It never changes. Lunch and dinner change everyday and the options were always delicious and offered variety. This is not a place for someone looking for LOTS of options and long elaborate buffet. Service in the restaurant is good. Tip and its better of course.
Drink quality was above average in my opinion. Fabulous daiquiris. Quick service.
Beach bar was awesome. Amazing view of the ocean. Several cats and birds hanging around.
Ocean had quite a bit of seaweed because they are in a bay without a strong wake. Watersports were always available and a ton of fun. Definitely worth a shot. Ask for someone to take you on a sail ride in the bay.
Pool - super clean. Always towels there except for one day. Chairs always available at pool and on beach. Nobody came out early and reserved chairs with their towels as seen in other resorts. Do the water aerobics at 11am with Shannon.
We did the Extreme tour (speed boat, stingrays, snorkeling, Nelson's dockyard). Great day tour but lots of sun and bumpy on the ocean.
Check out Long Bay and MamaPasta just a short walk from the resort if you want to change things up.
No room service. No swim up bar. Has mini putt, tennis, games room and out of this world jungle gym for children.
Spa was pricey but typical for a resort. I had a mani/pedi and was just ok with it.
Entertainment ends early. This resort is not the one if you are going to party or with singles. It is all couples and young families.

We visited in the middle of October 2013. The weather was perfect. We asked for a room near the main area as I have walking difficulties, and could not have been put in a better room. Near the beach, pool, and main bar and restaurants. The view from our room of the beach was beautiful.
We dined in all four restaurants. The Seabreeze offers a different theme every night, and there is always something for everyone. Nicoles is $30 each extra, but is beautiful and well worth it for the steak or lobster. The Beach Bar and Grill is great for a snack, and Buchaneers is good if you cant be bothered getting up to get your own food at Seabreeze.
The alcohol and cocktails were lovely, branded spirits too. We loved the champagne, definitely made you feel like you were on holiday.
the staff could not be more helpful and friendly.
I'd love to visit again.

I went to Verandah resort and spa in June, 2013 and I certify that this place is like no other place
I've seen before!!! It was absolutely beautiful vacation!!! Ok, i'll try to summarize my experience. There are 2 beaches with great sand, view etc. The hotel's territory is covered with different types of trees and creatures. People are the most positive and friendly I've ever seen in my live! I guess in this island there is nothing else but to be happy! :) Antigua's people are fluent in English as it used to be UK's colony. The fact that they all fluent very eases adaptation and communication in the resort. So unlike Cuba, Mexico etc here in Antigua you feel easy to socialize and have fun! :) Food was also very tasty. They had different kind of soups every day and they were all great! Live bands were entertaining every night and I absolutely loved them!! Verandah resort is more of a family oriented place. I went to the gym one morning and I was pleasantly surprised with its amenities. Long story short! Everything in the hotel is just 10 out of 10!!! I was crying on the last day as I did not want to leave this place :)

Absolutely Beautiful Property.

Resort has 200 rooms which are villa style. Most are Hillside many with a view of the water. Rooms are large, spotlessly clean, king size bed, sofa, chair, flat screen tv, kitchenette, with microwave, assorted cutlery, plates, glasses, coffee maker etc. Good size balcony chairs and table. Beds are very firm; you might to request a form topper to soften it out a bit. Great A/C and Ceiling Fan. Really nice bathrooms, shampoo, conditioner, lotions etc.

Resort is quite large, very hilly, lots of walking might be hard on older folks but, there are trolleys that will pick you up and drive you anywhere on property. Adjacent to resort is Devil's Bridge and Long Bay both 10 minute walk worth seeing.

Two beaches, soft white sand, crystal clear turquoise waters, lot's of water sports, kayaks, paddle boards, floating rings, Hobie Cats, Snorkel equipment and great service of staff on the beach. Lots of shade cover and beach loungers.

Several Bars, very impressive stock of top shelf liquors and liqueurs, delicious cocktails and the folks on the bar are quite generous. Four restaurants, Sea breeze Buffet completely different theme each night, not a massive buffet but, very good quality, most items appear to be homemade. Breads, Desserts, Carving Station and several dishes to choose from, plus the usually fruits, cheeses etc.

Main Beach Bar/Grill, Fish n Chips, Ribs, Toasted Sandwiches, Burgers, Hot Dogs Fries, Salads and many other items to choose from, while you sit with an beautiful view of the beach and water below. The nightly entertainment is quite basic and very relaxed by the main pool/bar.

Nicole’s, fine dining $30 per person surcharge and Buccaneers Restaurant; we actually never tried because the Sea breeze Buffet each night was so good. Breakfast is served at Sea breeze and is really good, lots of great choices, we actually ate breakfast every day.

All the staff was very helpful, friendly, check in/out at the hotel was quite slow, high volume of guests, small reception, inadequate staff and a few forms to fill out slowed the process. That said, they served us nice cold drinks and towels while we waited.

The resort has its own desalination, reverse osmosis process, so the water is safe and really good directly from the tap. This minimizes folks getting sick as in Cuba, DR, and Mexico etc. They are ECO conscious, so no bottled water or pop/soda but, there are coolers at all the pools and a jug in the room fridge for cold water.

Certainly worth a few extra dollars, to visit Antigua and stay at the Verandah but, that’s just my opinion, I could be wrong?

Room Tip: Rooms closer to restaurants, with a water view would be best as resort is very hilly and quite large...
