Being an airline employee, I do travel a lot. I have been everywhere in the caribbean so I am able to judge this resort. First of all, the antigua airport is a real mess. There is no airconditionning, water leaking from the roof, lots of people all arriving at the same time (Air Canada/Continental/Virgin Atlantic/Delta & American Airline)...Yes all these flights at the same time so imagine the scene with people looking for their luggages!!! Be patient and within 1 hr you should be out of there. Arriving at the resort, we were welcomed with a drink. Check in went perfectly. These people are VERY VERY Nice!

We got room 4417 which is on the 4th floor with an oceanview. This is a standard room and believe me, it is a standard room! Don't forget that this hotel is a 3* and was built in 1979. Not a lot of renovations were done. It is clean, well maintained but quite old. The rooms are not that big, but we had a balcony and amazing view on the ocean.

The food is very good. The buffet: Excellent. Not a lot of choices but just enough for everyone. For breakfast it's always eggs, bacon, potatoes, pancake but we enjoyed. The italian was good but no pasta. The indian we didn't like. The seafood is great with a nice location directly on the beach. Book yourself for the Sunday Brunch at Lydia's with a live steel drum band playing. Overall I have nothing to complain about food. It was good but they do cook with lots of oil.....we gained 5 pounds!!!

The beach...THIS BEACH IS AMAZING!!! I have rarely seen a beach like this. No the water is not crystal clear, but it is blue blue blue, warm and white sand. The hotel is surrounding by many mountains. this is a pretty location. The sunset is directly in the water...speachless

Vendors, yes there is a lot of vendors on the beach. They will ask you for jet skiing, catamaran cruises, jeep tour, jewelry. Just be polite and they will be too. The tours we didn't do because there is nothing under 90$ us each. We just went shopping in St-John.

Entertainment: it feels like there was not a lot of people that week at the resort. Very quiet. Band playing everynight but don't expect to go there and party all night.

Oh, I forgot about the birds. For breakfast and lunch, if you decide to eat outside, there is many many black birds that wants to be feed. For me they were like rats but for other, they were cute little birds.

Overhall, this is an amazing place to go. Beach is a 5+++, food 4, Room 3, Entertainement 3. I would recommand this place if you are not looking for luxe. This is a standard hotel but with a very very nice location....which is important to us.

We flew to antigua with First Choice in July.

Upon arriving at the hotel we were greated with rum cocktails which were lovely especially after the 8 hour flight!

We went in July which is supposed to be in the middle of the hurracaine season - we had afew slight showers usually on a morning. By the afternoon the weather had always cleared.

The rooms were a tad dated and it was rather strange to have stone furniture but they were exceptionally clean and we had fresh towels daily. The shower was always nice and warm and we even had a sun bed on our balcony.

The food was gorgeous - a choice of 4 restaurants including an indian, an italian (make sure men take smart trousers as there is a strict dress code) and Lidias the fish restaurant which is situated on the beach and wonderfull. There is also a buffet style resteraunt and a beachside grill!

The beaches really are gorgeous! there was hardly anyone ever on the beach when we went. The sea was gorgeous! crystal clear and warm

We only went to Antigua for 1 week. The country is 5 hours behind us and out bodies didnt really get chance to adjust to the time difference. I would personally recomend that people go for 2 weeks because of this.

I would definatly recommend this holiday and would love to go back!!!

Having just returned from a fantastic honeymoon at the Jolly Beach Resort I find it hard to understand all of the negative comments which have been made about it.

Put simply, this is a 3 star resort! It is not a 5 star spa complex. The rooms are small but, let's face it, when you have the most amazing white sandy beach and turquoise blue sea 2 mins from your room - who cares?????

Yes, there are alot of beach vendors but you simply say "no thank you" and they leave you alone. There are sand flies and mosquitoes, but take your repellent and bite relief!!

At the end of the day the beach is fantastic, there is a huge variety of amazing on offer, the water sports fantastic, the people, staff and guests are friendly and the beer flows! If this is what you want from a holiday then I would strongly recommend the Jolly Beach!! If not, book a 5* spa resort and pay twice as much!!

  • Liked — The Carribbean sea & ents staff!!
  • Disliked — Nothing
  • Tips/Secrets: — Helicopter trip to Montserrat is expensive but well worth it!!

Just returned from the jolly beach two days ago and the rooms where clean grounds kept well maintained. Beach was lovely. the staff are friendly and pleasent. Just remember there working in heat the we wouldnt be able to work in. the smaller pool was closed during our stay however the large fantasy pool was open with girll and pool bar and the other pool being closed didnt effect us at all.

The negative comments must be from travellers who want a lot more for there money, its a 3 star resort in the caribean, if you go with that in mind you will not be dissapointed. Any questions please ask.

Just returned yesterday from here, can't really fault the hotel and grounds. The only problems we encountered was with the lack of choice of main courses from Hemispheres buffet restaurant. (ok if you like FISH) and being on the 4th floor. The hotel is very clean, beach is beautiful, people polite and friendly. Beverly the wedding co-ordinator is great along with Isha and Elvis (her assistants). We renewed our wedding vows for our 25th anniversary while there, apart from the storm 1hr before hand everything went to plan. we met some great people while there, Russell and Yvonne, Dawn and Tony, had great laughs on catamaran Thanks to Dawn. Booking trips with beach vendors (Lyndon & Myron) no problems. Shirley Heights was ok, too many people go there on a sunday night. Helicopter to Monserrat well worth the cost.

Thanks again to Yvonne and Russell for being our witnesses on our special day

please feel free to contact me if you want any help or if you remember us, Gary & Tracey.
