We have just returned from a one week stay at the Jolly Beach and loved it. We were a party of 7 with ages ranging from 10-70 and have stayed in All Inclusive hotels at a number of caribbean destinations . We felt that the Jolly Beach offers excellent value for money. We've been to 5 star hotels and yes, there is a difference but the Jolly Beach is still a lovely place to stay. Do NOT be put off by some of the harsh reviews written - you will enjoy!
The beach is beautiful and about a mile long- one of the best we have seen. It was empty every day as most people seem to stay round the pool The deckchairs and shades were plentiful. The water is incredibly blue. Beach vendors do come round but very polite and never pester you to buy. Clean beach towels every day and never had a problem getting new ones at any time of the day. Great water floats available free of charge!
The rooms were basic but spotless and had maid service every day and new towels provided daily - we had 2 Standard rooms and a Superior one. The Superior one was a bit bigger than the standard room and had tea making facilities and a fridge. The rooms were acceptable but to be honest, how long do you stay in your room when on holiday anyway?
The food was excellent. Absolutely no complaints and we can be very fussy with our food! We loved Lydia's Restaurant on the beach and enjoyed the steel band that plays fon Sunday at lunch time. At all other times we ate at the main Hemispheres Restaurant which is buffet style. The food cannot be faulted in any way. Varied, tasty and extremely fresh. Yes, there are little birds that get in through the netting, but they do not go near people, and just peck at few bits of food that is left on plates that have not been collected up quickly. They didnt bother us at all.
The beach and hotel were kept spotless. They are out on the beach and pool area at about 7am raking up leaves etc. The hotel was also well maintained at all times. Yes, there are mosquitos and sand flies but it is the caribbean and to be expected especially during rainy season.
Mainly British clientele with lots of West Indian families from other islands. Everyone was very friendly and lots of happy kids around. All staff we encountered were very helpful and courteous. A spacious, quiet, relaxing resort
The eveniing entertainment was not as good as it could be. We are used to 'shows' each evening and most nights it was either a talent contest or karaoke which although fun, was not as good as in some other hotels we have stayed in. Staff work very hard and are obvioiusly loved by the kids.
Overall, it is a great place to stay for families. Go with an open mind and you will not be disappointed.
