This hotel has, like most places had good points and bad points. The main criticism would be the rooms. But then I was expecting that from having read many reviews on this site. They are very basic - we had a standard and it was just about okay. The air-conditioning and ceiling fan were excellent and kept the room cool. The maids didn't switch them off either - I've had that in other hotels where I've stayed so you come back from the beach to cool off and it's roasting! The bathroom had no window as it opened onto the corridor and it's hard to describe but it had an opening - too high and not open enough to see through but only have a grill on it it meant that if someone came past the room talking you thought they were IN your room!!! The door also had a grill (opened from inside) but again it meant the sound-proofing of rooms was non-existent.

I'm grateful to someone saying that some rooms were noisy as before I went I e-mailed and asked for a quiet room which we got - some of the rooms overlooked the dining area and bar/entertainment area and I can imagine that the noise would have been unbearable.

The rooms were very basic but kept clean. Towels were a little old and we had to ask for more than the standard 2 we were given.

The food in Hemispheres was excellent and I didn't agree with what others said about it on here. We stayed for a week and every night there was something different served. All three meals were excellent and I would rate the food at the hotel and the all-inclusive drinks as 5*. What makes this resort 3* is the accommodation and the fact that the hotel could do with a refurb.

There are no air-conditioned areas of the hotel apart from the little shop which isn't great. When we stayed it was roasting and very humid and I personally would have prefered to eat in an air-conditioned restaurant rather than open plan but the upside was you had a fantastic view of the sea.

Staff were excellent and friendly and we found that some people treated them very rudely and got back what they gave.

On the whole we found them to be very accommodating and friendly IF YOU TREATED THEM with some respect and not as your personal servants.

The beach was excellent and we did a trip on Friday and picked up from other beaches and we definitely thought our beach was better than the beach at Sandals for example. It was a mile long but yes the water was cloudy.

Yes you get peseterd by people offering you jetski rides etc etc but we found that on the whole if you said "no thanks" they left you alone but I agree that sometimes it's a bit annoying.

The non-motorised water sports were great - Hobie Cats - fantastic fun, kayaks and wind-surfiing and pedalos. The staff at the water-sports centre were also friendly and helpful.

The gym is supposed to be air-conditioned but believe me it wasn't - it was very small and very hot - I only managed 20 minutes at 6.00pm and the ceiling fan was simply circulating warm air. I didn't go back - got my exercise in the sea swimming.

The pool was very nice but we didn't use it much - why bother when the warm waters of the carribbean were waiting????

The sun loungers were in plentifuly supply and we didn't find any problems with the beach towel lady.

All in all this IS a 3* resort but the food, drink and location more than make up for it.

Don't be put off by negative comments on this site but DO upgrade to a standard room and expect it to be basic.

My only other main criticism would be the very slow check-in. We arrived on a Saturday and the queue took ages and our room wasn't ready at 3.30pm in the afternoon! However they allowed us to check out late the following week. The fact that the Reception is open-plan means you are very hot having just arrived. More staff and a quicker check-in would be good - but just be prepared.

My husband and I spent 5 relaxing nights at Jolly Beach. We have traveled and have high expectations. I will say the rooms are modest but very comfortable. we had a standard room and did not have a complaint to offer. We did request prior to check-in to be placed away from evening noise, based other reviews, and found our room to be very quiet.
The food was just ok. It was not fantastic, but it was not horrible. When we went to dinner we payed extra for the "good wine" and enjoyed our meals.
We went for the R&R we need to get every 3-4 months and appreciated the wonderful beach. We spent our days relaxing and our evenings meeting new friends. We go to the Caribbean a couple times a year and found this island to be a beauty.
I would like to say that I do not know why people give this place such hard reviews. This is not a 5 Star Resort but it is on a small island and does not need to be a 5 Star Resort. The resort has charm and reflects the people who live there and work there. There are "vendors" on the beach but if you say NO and smile ,they go away. They are not as aggressive as other places we have been. Visitors should relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the island!

Just returned from Jolly Beach on the 15TH after a 3 night stay with my husband and 6 family members, and I can say we all agree with the other reviews 'DON'T BOOK THE SUPER SAVER ROOM'unless you are single and between 4 to 5 feet tall.
All our SUPER SAVER ROOMS were located in an area we call PRISONER CELL BLOCK H WING.They were Butlin chalet style, with a musky damp smell when you entered the cramp bathroom.you could not swing a cat in there much less unpack your suitcase from your bed(and then you had to be on the KYPTON FACTOR) to work out where you were going to put you empty cases.Luckily we were only there for 3 nights.
Myself and my niece went straight to the front desk to complain, 1 hour later after demanding to speak to the manager we were upgraded to a standard room which we were charged $80 a night(unlike one of reviews I have just read who said they were charged $40 a night) guess we were over charged.
Once this was sorted out I have to say we found the grounds, the food, the entertainment and ESPECIALLY THE BEACH to be fantastic.
Check out the Self Service Pina colada/strawberry dacarri and the jerk chicken at the poolside grill, service was good.
We are glad we went to jolly beach before we had read the previous review or we might not have gone, as we disagree with alot that was said.
Take a chance and go see for youself.

This was my second visit to the caribbean, the first being to Jamaica. The hotel was in desperate need of modernising, although rooms are clean and comfortable they are quite small, and could do with a lick of paint. Some staff are ok but they seem to feel obliged to help and not interested. The food in Hemispheres main restaurant went down hill as soon as breakfast is finished. The evening buffet is great if you are a lover of fish, chicken or rice. The Italian restaurant is well below average, and they expect you to dress up for the pleasure. Lydias seafood restaurant was by far the best of the restaurants, serving a mix of seafood dishes, along with steaks. But the award for the worst restaurant has to go to Utsav, the so-called Indian cuisine was just like eating a ready meal, and having travelled here with my Indian partner, we know what real Indian cooking is. The pool area is fine and so was the beach, with no shortage of loungers available, but unfortunately no shortage of hawkers too!!! All in all, we stayed just 7 nights which was long enough. Evening entertainment is lame to say the least, catering mainly for older couples or honeymooners, with competitions such as Mr Jolly Beach etc, how 'holiday camp'! Entertainment ends approx 11pm and the bar is open for a further 90 minutes........why not just have a disco some nights???? Antigua is a lovely place to visit, but pay a bit more and stay in a higher graded accomodation, this property lets down an otherwise beautiful island.

I rate this hotel a 4 out of 5 stars! The staff was great, you can tell they loved their jobs. Hotel was always clean, the pools were clean, and so were the rooms. DO NOT get the supersaver room, it's very small, pay an extra $40.00 per night and get the standard room.
I recommend all the restaurants, you can visit them as much as you want. BUT do bring long pants (men), and shoes with a heel (women) for the italian restaurant, the staff does not shy away from asking you to change.
Across the street there is a casino, shops, and pharmacy. There is no need to leave the hotel, unless you want to go into town or on excursions.
There was a wedding everyday.
I definitely recommend this hotel. I have been on a lot of all inclusives and this was one of the best. The beach (no rocks) is also breathtaking and they weren't kidding when they said it was over a mile long!
I didn't want to come home.
