We stayed at the JBR Feb'08 and we were pleasantly surprised how clean the hotel was, our towels were changed daily without asking, the room was always cleaned and was spacious with a good view. The food was good, not world class, but enough variety to avoid getting the 'hotel food' feeling. The Italian and Lydia's were our favourites. We were only dissapointed by the lack of fresh fruit considering where in the Caribbean...the land of fruit!
The kids club was great for our 10yr old boy who went as and when he felt like it. The kids entertainers are brilliant and keep going all day and turn up at the big pool around 11-12 o'clock to get everyone involved - if they want to.
There's plenty of included watersports, so if you want to learn how to sail or windsurf a little this is your chance.
Although we went at UK school holiday time and the resort was full it didn't feel too busy.
Nearly all the staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful, you could say they come accross 'rude' but it's just their way/nature they just need a good talking to and once they get talking you can't stop them! The staff at the poolside grill were a bit characterless but knocked out some great snacks.
If you're going to go to JBR, don't be put of by the bad reviews, but we would recommend upgrading to the Superior Room as we did. When we were leaving some American's were laying into the reception staff about their 'standard' rooms - the smaller room option.
Security is good and manned 24/7 at all exits/entrances so we felt safe. Have a wander over to the JB Harbour and go to the supermarket there to buy water as the JBR don't include bottled water in their AI deal which will catch some out!
Anyway, enjoy, it's the Caribbean, the sea is warm, the sand is white, the weather fantastic and you'll come back refreshed.
