Extremely rude staff, some didn't even acknowledge your alive, no matter how nice you are to them! (worst are the beach grill, beach bar and the omlette chef - Reginald - at hemispheres)
People say "It's the carribean way, that 's how they are, Rubbish! we've stayed at other resorts and they are much friendlier, these staff need to remember who's putting a roof over their head, and money in their pockets - TOURISTS
Just because a member of staff says "your welcome" after every line, doesn't mean that they mean it, you dont have to be a professor to read the body language given out, or lack of eye contact when your speaking to them!
Being fair, about 15% of the staff were absolutely wonderful, Janice at the bar, Sylvia and couple of other ladies in the restaurant, and not forgetting the lovely lady tending the gardens!
Poor food (Chicken and the pork sausages had blood running out), same choice every day, and never hot & recooked!
Poorly maintained, (3 blocks had fire alrms disconnected on all floors, with wires hanging out!)
Full of loud, crass English wedding parties and middle aged northerners (english) who thought they were the bee's knee's just because they had managed to remortgage their terraced house to pay to stay at this "LUXURY RESORT", that didn't mind what language they were using in front of other guests, kids ect, and divebombing senior guests in the pool.
You expect this in Benidorm, Ibiza ect in July when you've paid £200 / $400 dollars for a week, but not when you've paid £2200 / $4400 for a week in the Carribean. Then still need to buy your own bottled water, or drinks for the room as their was no were you could get a drink between midnight and breakfast (or no fridges in rooms to keep them cool)
Reception couldn't be bothered to arrange a late check out even though the hotel was quiet! (Even tried to force us out the room at 10.45 - because they have more guests waiting) check out is actually 12.00!
Housekeeping poor, floor not mopped once, table not wiped while we were there, and had to share 1 towel between us for 3 days and no face cloths, because "they were busy"
Beach vendors do get annoying but do go away if you say a polite no thanks, unlike the watersports people, they do not leave you alone at all!, when sleeping, when lying in the sun, at the bar, in the sea, 4 or 5 times a day by each watersports vendor.
Crab hole village - why cant the hotel provide toilets for these vendors they rent the huts too, many a time you would walk past and one of the vendors would be doing their buisness at the side of the hut!
St Johns
Dont waste your money!, the harbour in St Johns is OK, but very exspensive, the rest of the city is just the same of mass produced tourist rubbish they they think you will buy, just because it say's "Antigua" on it.
3 resounding plus's for the resort
(1) the beach, absolutely lovely
(2) Callie the Bo tours rep in resort who works also for First Choice, Hayes and Jarvis ect, Brilliant, very polite, and never pressurised on sales (the first rep ever, i've known not to do this, she explained what you get for your money, then go away ad think about it.) Well done Callie - excellent job!
(3) The little cats around the complex, please feed them they have babies in the bushes near the complex.
To sum up,
Beach great, Callie from Bo Tours - Great,
Rest of the place needs replacing from scratch, and that includes the majority of staff training.
If you going to spend £2200 for a weeks vacation, try Barbados or Mexico, where you get so much better quality for your money.
Shame on you Hayes and Jarvis & Kuoni, this resort is not up to your usual standards and your guests expectations, and would be more suited to the lower grade travel companies, who I wont name but we all know who they are if you want a cheapo holiday, which this wasn't.
