“Great Honeymoon!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2011

My wife and I had a great time at Cocobay! We were a bit concerned because of some reviews we read, but we really got what we paied for, and most of all, what we were looking for.
We had a sea view cottage. It was clean and comfortable. There was a mini fridge, a ceiling fan and the possibility to have A/C. There was no TV but we were pleased with that. The bathroom was basic but with all the facilities like the hair dryer. The best thing is the shower! There's a door in the actual shower and if you want you can open it and have your shower on the balcony but in complete privacy as flowers and plants prevent from being overlooked. We had a shower with a colibri flying just a step away: it was great!

The food is very good an very well presented. At lunch is buffet while at dinner is a proper restaurant. There is always a choice between meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. It's all tasty and spiced, but not at all hot.

The staff is friendly, helpful and very professional and made us feel at home at all time.

The beach is great and even the locals appreciate it. The hotel is just a five minutes walk from two other large breaches.

We really enjoyed every moment, even if the weather was poor...
I think people who don't appreciate Cocobay where looking for something different. This is more like a regular hotel than a resort with entertainment every night... It is more the place were you go to relax that have fun, if you know what I mean...

My husband and I needed a beach trip and this looked like a great deal and great spot. We were greeted by friendly staff and a bottle of champagne in our cottage. We recommend getting a cottage with A/C, the first one we had did not have it and we were miserable the first night. It was a $25/night upgrade for A/C but definitely a necessity. The rooms were clean but very minimalistic (no tv, no radio, no clock). Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, but there was NO night life around the resort or at the resort. After dinner you could sit at the bar, but there was no music whatsoever. The atmosphere was lacking quite a bit - even music playing in the background would add something. The food was very good and wait staff very friendly. However, the other visitors staying at the resort were primarily british/english (80%)...we met 3 other American couples. I have NOTHING against brits, but they all smoked in every common area. There wasn't a designated smoking area - you couldn't lay out at the pool without smelling cigarette smoke. I found out I was pregnant a few weeks before our trip so being around smoke was not an option. Another negative was the sand flies on the beach - they were HORRIBLE! You had to put on bug spray just to go to the beach. Everyone there had awful bites all over their bodies - one couple didn't sleep with the mosquito net in the room and were attacked bad while they slept. Be prepared for lots of bugs! I wish we had more positive things to say b/c the staff were very kind and went out of their way to serve you.....but the resort needed updating (wood decking around pool and bar), too many smokers and no designated smoking area, and too many bugs. We will not be back and will not recommend this resort to our friends...unless they make the necessary upgrades and changes.

Thank you for taking the time to share your review of your recent Cocobay stay. We are truly sorry that your experinece while staying with us did not meet your expectations. Your review, however, was quite useful as we endeavour to continue to work towards ensuring that our resort provides a comfortable, relaxing and aesthetically appealing Caribbean get-away. It is always a challenge to balance structural upgrades with high occupancies but we have committed to working on these areas very soon.

We sincerely hope that you will still consider visiting again sometime in the future.

Myself and my fiance stayed at Cocobay, we booked a two week holiday and stayed for 1 week because we were both very poorly.
We both got food poioning along with 9 other people in our hotel, the doctor had to be called to the hotel for myself and others.
We found cockroaches breeding in our room fridge and in the sugar which obviously the cleaner never noticed. The bathroom door had a 1 inch gap under and if you kicked it if flew open - therfore security was a huge problem. We had one of the better shalets with a plunge pool - number 10.
The food did taste good but when we were both ill it put us off. Although it was a buffet and there were ants and birds eating the jams and sugar and when u left your table to attend the buffet a bird would come and drink your drink! I know these are indigenous creatures but we have stayed in St Lucia and this was not a problem at all.
The bar maid had very long yellow looking nails which i dont feel is hygienic when preparing drinks. Although all the staff were very friendly and nice.
We had saved up all year for this holiday and had to return one week early, after being put on a drip in the hotel shalet for dehydration - virgin holidays were not very helpful to start with but in the end did put us in a return flight home early.

Me and my husband went here for our honeymoon for 10 nights. We went for a beach front bunglow with it's own plunge pool (a must) and we had an amazing sea view. The whole hotel experience was fantastic. Some friends suggested Cocobay to us as they had been many times before and loved it, and I'm so glad they did. The staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and comfortable and the food was amazing (I'm vegetarian and I was more than happy with the food). As an all inclusive resort this really is value for money, especially when you compare it to some of the other hotels. The location was perfect for us, it has a gorgeous little quiet beach which we thought was one of the best on the island away from the larger resorts so it was much quieter and cleaner. We can not wait to go back...

The biggest impression we had was the 5 star service & friendly people. Nothing is difficult or to much for the staff. Always smiling, pleasant or have a crack with one of the waiters - the staff really make this place even more than what it is. The food is organic, fresh & exiting - they even managed to supply vegan cuisine. Beach is a picture postcard, pretty private & throws up some massive conch shells. Shawn does some sunset horse riding - just ask for him on the beach. The pool has a dream infinity pool & views are outstanding. The rooms are rustic, but clean & amazing. Have a shower & gaze across the ocean!
This isn't a 24hr party place - it's for chilling. Prices may be out of some peoples reach - but you get what you pay for - thoroughly recommended.

Tip: Ring Lennox to custom make affordable tours 7235826 h/d or full day tours (Ring free from your hotel room). He is knowledgeable & has the 4wd vehicle to get you round. You don't get to see half the places on a commercial guided tour.

60 Cottages scattered on a bluff overlooking 5 beaches, 58 doubles, and 2 family cottages sleeping 4. Simple, and plain furnishings, all with verandah with 2 chairs and a hammock. Very comfortable beds with Mosquito nets - about 20 rooms have air con- more are planned. Some refurbishment needed. Most rooms have good see views, ocean front rooms also have private plunge pools.
Food imaginative and first class, menus never repeated. Bar has every thing you want (Chilean House Wine). All inclusive.
All staff very friendly and helpful.
Lovely beach 50 yds down path, loungers, umbrellas and towels all provided. Also good infinity pool near bar and restaurant. There is an a la carte restaurant, run by separate company which takes outside bookings and departures can be late and noisy.
One bad point, THE SAND FLIES - ALL ROUND SITE, AROUND POOL AS WELL AS BEACH. ? due to weather-remains of Hurricane Thomas. Friends who stayed in Antigua elsewhere 2 weeks later (English Harbour) had no problems.
