“Very good and friendly staff, beautiful beach and convenient location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

We stayed in this hotel during Vietnamese New year ( 7 Feb- 13 Feb). Our group ( 4 families ) are quite happy with excellent and very friendly services, especially warm-welcome atmosphere(attitude) of all staff during Tet Holidays. A small surprise new year party was organized with lucky money and secret prizes for staff and guests during new year EVE which made us feel like "TET at home". Awesome!
About the hotel: We used to stay in SGPQ, but this one is more friendly and worth every single penny you spend. Beautiful beach with coconut trees. Close to night market and many other restaurants. THien Hai Son shall be our favorite Hotel in PQ from now on. Highly recommend to everyone.
Only one Prob during our stay: a family in our group, the wife came first, her husband came later. she went out with kids and forgot to leave key at reception desk for him. Receptionist let him enter the room but refused to give him a key. without the key, he could not turn on electricity in the room. we called them from the beach (Star beach- far away) and asked them to give him a spare key, we would return later but they refused.... finally it was sorted but i really hope the staff should be more flexible on this. very simple rule every hotel has is that there is a spare key to every room. The rest of the holiday is fantasic.

Other than that, we are very happy with our trip. Shall definitely come back. I would like to express our gratitude to all staff for bringing us such a wonderful holiday!!!

When booking this hotel make sure your room number begins with 400. The lower numbers are in the main block which is a NIGHTMARE! Gulag is a good description. We were moved after first night to a bungalow 442 in the garden close to pool. As previous reviewers state, they are spacious and quite quiet unless you get a heavy smoker coughing all night in the next door unit!
Generally this hotel is good value for money. Well located and good service. Yes the place was built in another era but that adds a quaintness to it. Cleanliness is 100% would I stay here again? Yes, probably but not for more than 4 or 5 days.

Room Tip: Room numbers starting at 400. Avoid main block whose numbers go up to 300s sea view bungalows would...

Not a place we'd recommend you stay!!! The bungalows are nice enough, as long as you don't mind sharing them with trails of ants, cockroaches and geckos. -
I liked the gecko, I have to admit. At least they eat insects, though I think there were too many for it to eat...
Unfortunately breakfast is a disaster. The choice of food is good, but rather limited if you don't want to share it with numerous flies on the fruit, bread etc. The hot food wasn't kept hot enough.
I think this is a government run place and rather sad because of it.
Another thought: Where does all the sewage from the hotels go??? There are big pipes down by the beach.
If you are going to Phu Quoc, visit the night market for atmosphere.
The restaurant across the road from our 'resort' and slightly towards town (something Nam?? can't remember) was very good.

Room Tip: Don't pay for an upgrade to a beach front bungalow - they are just as infested as the other bung...

This a 3 stars establishment. The location is great, directly on the beach, 20 minutes walk to the small town, next to restaurants. The beach is clean, the water is very warm. You will not be botherred by sellers of all kinds, there is a security guard just for that.
Our graden bungalow was spacious with one double bed and one single bed with room to spare.
The bathroom needed attention, cracked tiles, stained ceiling, but it was very clean.
The breakfast buffet was just fine. We ate at the sunset bar on the beach a few time and it was just perfect. Try their candle light dinner on the beach with fresh seafood cooked for you on the BBQ. The staff is eager to help very nice and seems to enjoy working there.
When we were there, 80% of the guest seems to be from a russian origin.

Room Tip: We asked for an upgrade as suggested in an earlier review. We got a garden bungalow and it was a ver...

Still staying in this old and tired looking place, I just wish my day is over soon so I could get out ASAP. Booked through Agoda so I can't get my money back. Room is smelly when you enter, leaking AC and weird style of the room. Do not waste your money

This hotel is very tired, and my wife likened it to the hotel in The Shining. Positives... The bedrooms are spacious. Housekeeping is efficient and overall cleanliness is good. The staff were very helpful. The complimentary breakfast was very good. It is close to local shops and restaurants. The pool is very good and the gardens well kept. The sunset can be enjoyed from the bar and dinner can be taken on the beach. Negatives... Some sort of dirty water drainage system is positioned in the centre of the beach, drains into the sea, and smells. It left the water bubbly at times and we werent comfortable with it. There is no lift to the 1st and 2nd floor rooms which would present a problem for some. Our bath was stained and the bathroom a bit smelly due to the drainage. The hot water was a bit hit and miss. All of the stone floored rooms are set off of long stone floored corridors and the noise started at 6am. The noise of people leaving their rooms, banging doors, talking and even walking echoed along the corridor. We could tell who was wearing trainers and who was wearing flip flops. It made a very early start to the day. We stayed 2 nights and could have done 3, but that would have been the limit.

Room Tip: I would look for a bungalow. We were on the 2nd floor so we had no noise from above. People on the 1...

Thien Hai Son you might say has seen better days, but on reflection I think the best days were probably the days when Soviet era style 'party comrades' were checking in for a regional junket just after the paint had dried, and the red ribbon was cut.

There it is, I've just described the concrete white washed monolith which constitutes the 'main block’. Very dated and probably needs knocking down as 'renovation' would involve a self defeating exercise.
We stayed our first night in the main ‘block’. Our brief promised a sea view, although you would have needed to be abseiling onto the second floor roof from a helicopter to appreciate the sea view over the palm trees.
Dated features became almost meaningless when it came to the horrendous sewage smell coming from the bathroom. We were practically gagging come morning despite ‘sealing’ the doors with towels to lessen the smell. We were shown another room directly above us, and the smell told us that every room would reveal the same.
Rather than demand a solution to the ‘sewage smell’ which clearly would involve demolition, we just asked to be relocated to one of the garden bungalows. We negotiated an ‘upgrade’ price which seemed very reasonable.
As it turned out the extra $25.00 a day ‘upgrade’ was well worth the extra cost. The bungalows were built during the same era as the block house, and were clearly for the elite guests.
Very spacious semi detached buildings, solidly built. Set in landscaped gardens. The bungalows range in three rows starting right at the beach. Well worth the extra cost.
There is a nice beach side restaurant and bar, and a bigger restaurant near the main ‘block house’ where breakfast is served until 9.00a.m. Good Pho station and a good choice of cereals, omelettes etcetera.
The staff are very helpful and polite.
Overall the Hotel has one of the best locations on the beach, simply because it’s one of the oldest on the beach. Good proximity to other restaurants and bars, and a mile from the night market.
Avoid the Block house and go for a Bungalow, and you should enjoy your experience.

Room Tip: Avoid the main block house and go for a sea front bungalow
