“Stayed at Cassia for a week in February...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2010 via mobile

Stayed at Cassia for a week in February 2010, it really is a special place. Nothing like it on this beach. Though it is not just actually in the sand, as Sea Star is, but it has a wonderful garden, pool and views, at least from the beach houses and the sea view rooms. The construction of the rooms gives the AC a hard time to keep the room cool enough, try to switch of the fan, it helps. The matresses in the beds are a bit hard. Try the coconut milkshake and get the feeling of a tropical paradise! Wonderful!

We chose Cassia Cottage as a result of reviews on Trip Advisor and we were not disappointed. All accommodation is in single storey bungalows dotted around the beautiful gardens. Try for a room near the pool/beach although it doesn't matter too much . Good beds, pillows A/C or fan (or both if you really want to use electricity). Staff let down mosquito net every night and you do have mozzies come dusk on Phu Quoc even in January. Adequate en-suite. Wonderful buffet breakfast with fruit juice 'mocktails' great fruit, cereals, home-made jams plus bacon eggs, cheese ham etc. Guests came in many guises; couples old and young and families with small children (probably not enough for teens to do ).

The staff were wonderful, friendly and helpful in the extreme, which contributed to the peaceful atmosphere. There are plenty of nooks and crannies to lounge about in during the day, so it feels like your own private villa. White sands on a shallow sea make it safe for children, although Phu Quoc can have a jelly-fish egg problem which means you may have to make do with the pretty infinity pool. Smaller than in other hotels, but then Cassia Cottage has only 18 rooms.

Food was pretty good too ( try the garlic prawns) and very reasonably priced at around £6.00 per head, compared to the glitzier places which were charging more than twice as much, including beverages, ie 40,000 dong for a .5 litre bottle of water as compared t o CC's 19,000 (65p) for 1.5 litres. You can eat in the garden, by the pool or on the beach - pretty amazing on a warm night with the sky full of stars and all to be seen are the lights of the fishing boats. They have a tasty sea food buffet once a week for $15

If you tire of eating in, a short stroll up the beach takes you to many other good eating places, including the famed La Verandah which was very beautiful, although I preferred the intimacy (and the prices) of Cassia Cottage.

Do your sight-seeing ( and shopping) on mainland Vietnam and then have a chill out in this little gem, as we did. Bliss!

What is there not to like about this place?

Staff are fantastic, apartments are clean and hidden away in the garden with fantasticly comfortable beds, beach is clean, food in the Spice House was good enough to stop us from venturing elsewhere during our 4 day stay, and you can eat dinner on the beach.

This was the last 4 days of our honeymoon and I'm so glad that I picked Cassia to round it all off.

The staff even phoned Vietnam Airlines and arranged for us to fly out half a day later, reducing our wait time in HCMC for our flight home, and adding half a day to our honeymoon. They couldn't have been more helpful!

My wife and I spent four nights at Cassia Cottage and I have no doubt that it must be among the best hotels on Phu Quoc. A short 10 minute ride through Duong Dong from the airport, Cassia Cottage lies south of most of the accommodations at the northern end of Long Beach. Upon arrival, we were met at the gate with refreshing cold towels and welcome drinks and then escorted to the breakfast area for some fresh fruit and a quick run through the paperwork and a brief introduction to the resort. We were in a fantastic cottage set off in a secluded area of the resort and when we opened the door, we were surprised by a festive bed decorated in the Vietnamese style with tinsel, colored lights, and happy honeymoon spelled out in leaves and flowers on the mattress. This is just one example of the thoughtful service that continued throughout our stay. The luscious tropical grounds are well maintained by a staff of tireless workers. The resort's restaurant serves quality food at a fair price and, while we ventured out a couple times, we were quite happy eating at the resort for most our meals. We tended to sit out on the resort's beach loungers during the morning and retreat to the pool in the afternoon, which made for some very enjoyable days. Be sure to rent a motorbike through the resort and go out for a day of biking. We went to the northwest for some deserted beaches, a seafood lunch, and interesting rides through small villages and pepper plantations. I would definitely stay at Cassia Cottage again if we returned to Phu Quoc.

Cassia cottage is very well maintained and is run with a very high service level. The pool turned out to be a great bonus as there where small burning items in the sea (and our kids refused to go into the water). Thank goodness for that pool! The breakfast is worth an extra mentioning as it was one of the absolute best we had during our five weeks in Vietnam. The restaurant is okay but a bit overpriced – skip the cocktails though. In high season it all comes at a price and at USD 130 a night you’ll find most guest to be 50+.

After hours of research on accommodation we really weren't sure what to expect upon arriving but we were definitely pleasantly surprised. We were welcomed with a cool drink and checked in before being shown to our room. It was gorgeous. A little villa with a balcony.. views from the balcony to the ocean and about 10 meters from the swimming pool.

The room was beautiful with cinnamon soap, fresh flowers and a beautiful mosquito net over the bed. Very romantic... pity considering I was travelling with a best friend! Haha!

It was a 1 minute walk to the beach. What greeted us was a beautiful clean beach with sun loungers, chairs and tables and weather to match! The staff were excellent during out stay and within half an hour of being there we never had to tell them our room number when charging drinks etc.. they just knew!

We decided to explore the rest of the beach to see what else was around and we have to honestly say Cassia Cottages has the BEST location on the beach. It is pretty much right in the middle and had a great portion of the beach. We went for a wander to look at other recommended resorts and were SO glad we chose Cassia. I wont go into other hotels on this review but feel free to contact me if you want further information on this.

Back to Cassia, the food was at times expensive, but faultess all the same.. the cocktails were expensive and tasted watered down, so we ended up sticking to the beer, our toilet got blocked a few times but they were quick to fix it when told of the issue... we felt a little rushed to get out on our last day... we actually had the cleaning ladies come in while we were out having breakfast and we had to get management to remove them as when we came back and told them we needed to still shower etc they sat out on our balcony. Management were quick to move them along and give us the time we needed to shower and pack! LOL

Internet was a bit hit and miss but there was a guy onsite that was always trying to repair it. Breakfast was great and had everything you needed. If you want proper drip coffee just ask them for it.. they use an Italian roast however which we found disappointing considering we were in Vietnam and Vietnamese coffee is cheaper for them and much nicer!

Overall I would recommend this hotel above anything else we saw on the beach.. and we covered the beach one end to the other... there was a large popular resort down further that had NO beachfront.. I personally would not have been happy had I picked that one!

Dont hesitate... stay at Cassia... its a true tropical beach resort that is perfect!!!! I have many more photos if anyone is interested they can contact me direct!

We stayed four nights at Cassia Cottage this January. The setting couldn't be prettier, wonderful tropical gardens and a beautiful dark-blue tiled pool. The rooms were simple and charming but quite small and the shower was inadequate. (We stayed in the "garden cottage" room). The service was very good, and the amenities were nice, such as foil packets of premium tea and their own handmade cinnamon soap.

Although I didn't see inside the rooms, the Sea Star and Mai resorts on either side, which I had considered, were about half the price and the bungalows appeared to be larger and more private than at Cassia. I fear this is a place where the glowing Trip Advisor reviews have spurred a gluttony of price increases which are really not warranted for what you get. The food was not very tasty and expensive and the cocktails were awful. We ended up going to Mai Resort for our dinners and Sea Star for most of our lunches.

WiFi was supposedly available in the rooms but really only worked close to the router in the computer room.
