“Very nice bungalows!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2008

We stayed there for 6 nights and it was very fun! The guy that is running this place is very friendly and nice and extremely helpful. Bungalows are clean and quite big. Unfortunately they don't run restaurant (yet!), but there is really good restaurant right on the beach 10m away (rainbow), so it's taken care of everything.

Would reccomend to everybody, because it is a good value for money!

A really nice guy was running this resort. Simple but clean bungolows right on the beach. Hammocks out the front, beach side restaurant and bar. And a steal at US$20 for the night (although it might be a little more in the high season - we had the entire resort to ourselves at this time of year!).

We were there during peak season (Christmas) and paid $20 per night which was great value. Because it was so busy and we left it so late to book, the first room we had was at the back of the complex, and wasn't great (not terrible either though!). However on our second day we moved to one of the bungalows nearer the beach and it was fab. The bar infront of it on the beach was great (I think it was called Rainbow Beach Bar or something), we had an amazing christmas buffet dinner there. It has good breakfasts too! I'd recommend a massage on the beach, very very relaxing.

  • Liked — Lovely porch area, nearness to beach

We stumbled accross Coco Beach simply because most of the other places were booked and because they have one of the most reasonable rates on the island. We had to change our booking dates because flights to the island fill up fast! They picked us up at the airport for free (which was great), however, the owner (a young guy) told us he had forgotten about our booking (despite us e-mailing him AND calling him just days before) but, luckily, still had a beach-front bungalow available. Just as well!

The bungalow itself is far from extravagant. There's no air-conditioners so we were hot all the time. However, there is a fan and a cold shower helps to cool down your body temperature. Since some of the last reviews, they have installed hot water which helps. Mosquitos are all over the place so bring a can of insect killer (to kill whatever's in your bungalow) and lots of repellant. They have mosquito nets over the beds. Also, be sure to bring sun-block because it gets HOT there during March.

The guy at reception was able to arrange a scooter for us but initially quoted me a ridiculous price. We negotiated to something much more reasonable (ie. 325,000 vnd for 3.5 days). In speaking with fellow travellers, it was indeed a good price and the scooter ran well.

Coco Beach does not provide any meals but there are other resorts on both sides of the beach and you are free to eat at either of those without being one of their guests. Overall, a good accommodation option considering the money.

  • Liked — The location - the close proximity to the beach
  • Disliked — No air conditioning, bathroom very dark, no meals provided and a forgettful owner.

We arrived at 24th Dec 07 - and as everybody expected phu quoc was "fully booked" - we had luck and the young manager promised to give us next day a bunglow cosed to the beach. We spent 2 weeks. Bungalows has been cleaned up each day . As we spent the vacation on high seson the young manager was very helpfull by organizing motorbike, lift to the airport etc. Special as all retrun flights are fully booked the hotel manager arranged a flight to saigon at 4th Jan - no charge was expected . The bungalows are very well located (very quiet - but only 5min to walk to some good beach bars and fine restraunts like french-vietnamese). - wonderful time! Hope to come back before the international airport in phu quoc has been built.

Fourteen solid brick thatched bungalows, fan only, some with hot water. Thank Kieu or Coco Beach has expanded with two new hot water cabins. Try to get one of the eight beach front cabins. $35 high season. [--]

We met some fellow countrymen at the airport and they have a relative living on Phu Quoc Island. This uncle had booked them into the Thanh Kieu - they had lived there for a year or so - and we hitched a ride with them. It's a pretty basic place at first glance, but we grew to love it. Our bungalow looked through to the ocean and we could see the sunsets without leaving home if we wanted to. 'Anh' is a lovely man who is trying really hard to make a go of the place. He helped us with taxis and motorbike hire, plus stepping in when we had a problem regarding boat tours. We didn't find the place noisey at all, but the cold water showers were a little bit of a pain - I think they could be putting hot water in now, not sure. $25 a night for a week of pure bliss. They do free pick up from the airport and their email address is thanhkieucocobeach@yahoo.com. If you go to Phu Quoc, make sure you eat at Hop Inn (on the road) and Eden's and The Palm Tree (on the beach).

  • Liked — Location and friendliness of staff
