“Great for its price!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2012

Reasonable priced rooms, great location! The staff are amazing and treat everyone like great. The best part about this place is the food. The resident chef is amazing at preparing local and european dishes! Highly recommended.

Last of March, we ended our tour in Vietnam with this hotel on the Phu Quoc island.
The setting was beautiful. The rooms were very spacious and very pretty. We enjoyed the wonderful meals at the restaurant.
The French chef was very attentive to comments and the fact that everything goes well.
The pool was lovely.

Only downside: the beach was not as idyllic as we could hope.

Great property. I Would recommend this place

So many things went wrong for us at this hotel that we checked out early after 2 horrible nights to stay at the beautiful and super nice Chen Sea Hotel. Weeks in advance, we confirmed with the hotel that we would want a nice quiet room. At check-in, we asked for a quiet room again and instead they put us in the room right at the front off the pathways and by the restaurant. We asked for a different room and they said there wasn't anything. After listening to them talk to us disrespectfully and lie to us, they finally said they had two other rooms but one was upstairs and larger so that was reserved for people with families and kids. What? We wanted to pay more for a bigger room and we were not allowed to because we didn't have kids? Ridiculous. Also, when we were waiting outside, the staff person showing us our room stopped to talk to the maid, pointed at my husband and made the silent gesture of chocking him. We were appalled at the rude lady. While we were waiting at the lobby, a couple came up and asked how come they still didn't have their rooms ready for check in and the front desk people told the couple that they still needed to wait for their room. I am fluent in Vietnamese and I heard the front desk instead say in Vietnamese to each other "who are they and we forgot about them." I then heard another front desk girl answer the phone and pretend to not be able to hear the customer on the other end and told the other person that they were closed and to call back.

We were still placed in a loud room (by this time the 3rd room) and we called the general manager directly on his cell phone to come out and meet us in the room and let us know if he also thought this was a quiet room. He agreed that the loud toads in the pond right outside our room were very loud along with being right off the main walkway. The next night, he moved us to a different room only this time the air conditioning was broken in it. We went out for the day and hoped that by the time we came back after an long hot and exhausting day that at least our room would be cool and clean. NO. I pulled back the sheets to sleep and lifted the pillow and there were animal feces all over under the pillow. The manager came out and told us that it was wood shavings from the ceiling. Right, wood shavings on a made bed that the maid thought to just cover up with the pillow. Like we can't tell the difference. People, we have the pictures to prove it.

To compensate us for the horrible experience and poop on our bed, they gave us a plate of fruit and told us to try the restaurant on them. We tried the restaurant and the untrained waitress cooked our seafood at our table and handed us under cooked seafood. Not only did that make us sick, she also thought it was a good idea to feed the stray cats that came up to our table with our food. Disgusting!!!

We wished that we had left immediately at check-in. DO NOT STAY HERE. It is gross and the people are the worst in all of Vietnam. Chen Sea is so much nicer for almost the same amount of money and that was a luxury stay not this. This should be a 2 star at the most.

Room Tip: Don't stay on the first floor or by the main walkway. All rooms are so far from the beach.

My wife and I booked a room at Long Beach Resort - Phu Quoc Island. The hotel was so unhygienic, the rooms so covered in animal feces and dead bugs, the staff so poorly trained, so many things went wrong, that we ended up having find another hotel and check out early at midnight of the second night just to escape the disgusting rooms. Please see pictures of the hundreds of dead bugs UNDER the pillows of the room. Upon arrival we were greeted hostilely by the staff. That disrespect of all of the guests, not just us, continued to the point that the woman showing us to our room pointed to me and made the gesture for wanting to choke me. When we brought this to the attention of the front desk manager, she proceeded to speak disrespectfully about us in Vietnamese, assuming we would not understand. My wife speaks fluent Vietnamese and understood perfectly. Thus, we were forced to call the general manager ourselves. He sent us to the restaurant while another room was being prepared. At the restaurant our raw seafood was prepared not by a chef, not by a trained cook, but by an untrained waitress. Because of this lack of qualification to cook food, she kept giving us massively undercooked seafood which led to my wife becoming very ill. We were then moved to a room with a broken air conditioner. The worst moment in all of this was when we were so exhausted from all of these events and all we wanted to do was sleep, we found the bed that had just been made by the maids covered in animal feces on the top comforter and littered with hundreds of dead bugs under the pillow. At that point we contacted the general manager again, and showed him the feces and dead bugs. His solution was to give us a fruit plate. After suffering through all of this, we called every hotel on the island until we could find a vacancy and had to pack up all of our things and move there at 11:30pm. This hotel and its staff ruined our time on Phu Quoc island.

Room Tip: Spend a few more dollars and stay at the MUCH, MUCH NICER Chen La Sea Resort

This is my first ever review but I felt I owe it to all the staff here to do, so sorry it's taken so long. We stayed mid December 2011 and it is a new hotel which we loved as we often had the pool to ourself or with one other couple, so it was very relaxing after our 5wks traveling around Vietnam (staying in all types of accommodation-youth hostels to other 4star hotels). We walked along the beach and from appearances we decided that yes we had the best hotel, and after having average food elsewhere we just stuck to our hotel food which is usual for us! We loved the red flags on the recliners so we could just wave it for a drink or food. There is an amazing French head chef who is training the staff really well. My boyfriend wanted to propose to me so he talked to the manager and they went out of their way to make it special. We had a table right on the edge of the sea so we were separate from other guests, surrounded by candles and decorated with flowers. We had a 4course meal and wine all selected by the head chef (as my boyfriend isn't a foody like me so wouldn't know what to choose), which was all amazing and personally served by the head chef (so we had him to ourselves for the night for no extra cost - only the cost of the meal!) I was very surprised about some reviews saying food ok but not special - we stayed 1wk and the food was great esp breakfast where there was everything you could think of: a chef cooking eggs/omlettes/french toast adding exactly what you want, different vietnamese cakes, fruit, fry up food, salads, cold meats - we looked forward to breakfast everyday. I loved the decor of the rooms, the wooden bath is lovely and deep and the ponds and flowers around the rooms are kept lovely - the trickling water from the ponds are lovely to wake up to. My boyfriend looked forward to the sweet treat that would get brought to our room every evening - we loved the surprise. So yes this is a new hotel with trainee staff but we found it more endearing than a negative as they are so willing to please and be personal to your needs; and it isn't crowded or noisy! We were saying that we were glad we stayed here before it become established and therefore more busy. The only thing that I think would improve the hotel is that they should not have the same Philippine band on every night, even if it's just music over a sound system, because if the band isn't to your taste it's a shame to be stuck with it every night if you want to eat on the beach (this is applies only the beach restaurant there is another restaurant which is exquisite but we love to eat on the beach). It is a quiet place perfect for relaxing but you can hire a bike and go and explore the rest of the island - development is in progress so I say to experience authenticity go asap. Not all the roads are completely tarmac but I'm a learner and it's not to bumpy just very dusty on some roads (take sunglasses or you'll struggle to keep your eyes open). The hotel offered great trips but we just chose to go and explore alone. Personally we thought this hotel looked better than La Veranda and find the previous negative comments strange! Ps we saw a wedding here and they used the bridge over the large pond as an aisle to their beach wedding - very beautiful.

After a 2 week trip through Vietnam we spent 5 perfect days at this resort and enjoyed the stay tremendously. The resort is beautifully designed, the rooms well equipped ,the staff charming and always helpful. In the beach restaurant on our last evening we had the opportunity of participating in a cooking class, directed by the French executive chef, Hugo Barberis. He had prepared to cook with us a typical Vietnamese dinner : spring rolls, fish and a delicious dessert. Hugo is a highly qualified chef and an excellent instructor for amateurs.
We had a most entertaining and interesting evening, the result of our activity was perfect and we can highly recommend this cooking class to guests interested in Vietnamese cuisine.

Just spent 7 days here. The setup of the hotel into 9 different buildings is great. Each building has 8 rooms. The rooms are good and clean. Lots of wood carvings which makes it a little dark unless drapes are open. Lots of lush vegetation, ponds with lotus plants, water fountains.

The best part of the resort was the staff....very friendly and helpful and fun if you engaged them.

Breakfasts OK. Had Italian food on the beach 1 night...not great but the Asian food in the restaurant was fantastic. We were sorry we did not try prior to our next to last night.

Only down point was wifi service being so sporadic but I needed to remember I was on holidays after all.

Definitely recommend.
