We found the restaurant yesterday more or less by accident, it is some 200 m off the hardly beaten track when you want to surrount the Etna. The red house can be seen when crossing a nearby brigde.
When you enter the restaurant through the nice garden, you would expect something more simple, but.. The tables are laid out with a nice tablecloth. The chief, Pippo Lembo, is very kind and offers his specialities in several languages (if needed). He recommended his starters plus some pasta and then "a little bit of meat". We had 4 starters and "only" 2 pasta and 2 meat portions among the four of us. It was very delicous local food. After very tasty "Bruschetta" we had about 10 - 12 different starters, all made with local vegetables or fish or meat (grilled peppers, grilled Etna mushrooms, different cheeses (grilled, marinated or with tomatoes), mussels cooked "au gratin" etc. etc.
This would already have done as a very complete meal, but was followed by a wonderful home made pasta that was worth not to resist... Macceroni in a sauce with fresh and dried tomatoes, a dream.
Last but not least Pippo brought the platter of different meat "just for two", which was a gorgeous sight. Although we all tried hard to taste beef, lamb, veal, sausages etc, we did not manage to finish even half of it. This was only due to our limited "capacities" and - seeing the excellent taste and quality - a shame. Next time we will keep a strict diet for at least five days before we come to see Pippo.
The local wine, home made, goes perfectly with the meal, it is very tasteful, but not too strong. Go for it!
We will certainly come back on our next trip to Sicily.
