“Great Little Getaway!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

Spend a long weekend here in October of 2012 and Colony Club did not disappoint. The folks at the resort were extremely friendly and very accommodating. Each room had direct access to a plunge pool which a treat after a long day at the beach. Food was good and the morning breakfast buffet was wonderful. The resort had direct access to the beach but the beach was rather small. Not as nice as other islands such as Turks and Caicos or Grand Cayman. With that being said, if my travels take me to Barbados again I would not hesitate to stay at the Colony Club.

We stayed 23rd Jan to 31st Jan, 2013 for our 25th. We were made to feel very welcome from the first moment to our departure and rather enjoyed the rum punch on arrival. The manageress went out of her way to welcome us as on the first day and throughout our stay. We would definitely return.
We had an upgraded room as it was our 25th, with a bottle of fizz and a lovely message of congratulations, which was a really nice touch. The suite room overlooking the pool is a decent size, well maintained with good relaxing facilities. We never once turned on the state of the art sony tv.
The food is very good, particularly the wonderful breakfast, but a slightly higher quality was enjoyed at Mullins Bay, Daphne's & Tides. To be able to enjoy lunch & dinner at the hotel on the decking by the beach is special - the shrimp tempur that we tried over lunch on our last day was to die for.
Drinks are not cheap (B$7.50 for a small bottle of Bank's is a bit excessive), but happy hour (4-6pm) makes the cocktails reasonable value. CARE - we were led to believe that all drinks were part of happy hour, but that is not the case.
The hotel sits in a lovely bay, where there are platoons to swim out to. We enjoyed this a lot. A downside is that there is a bit of a scramble for sunbeds in the morning, as the thin strip of beach restricts the number that you can have out, so everyone sits on top of each other. We tried the poolside (beautifully kept), but there is hardly any breeze there, so it was too hot. We must say that the sunbeds around the pool, as well as the very well kept vegetation, make it quite special.
The watersports are good to enjoy - take the red, two man kayak as that really motors. A disappointment was turning up one day when only one person was on duty - he was rude when we interrupted him eating and asked us to come back later. We did not bother.
The beach is lovely and there is a very nice 2 mile walk that you can make turning right out of the hotel as you reach the beach - it passes a beachside cafe that we used regularly. We also found it very handy to walk into Holetown - 10/15 minutes.
We used the reggae bus a lot (B$2 each for a trip) to get around - the hotel's trip to Oistins was sold out, so we used the bus for B$2 all the way. A real experience, but it took 1hr 20 minutes! The taxi back was B$85, shared with another couple, took 30 mins.
In summary, a real treat.

Another wonderful few days at the Colony Club. It remains an elegant and stylish home from home with much improved food- lunch on the sunset terrace is a must (ask for Monica's table) - and the breakfast is the best buffet ever. But and it's a big but- the buildings and facilities are unchanged since we first visited the Colony Club some 10 years ago. It badly needs updating and renovation. The wooden walkways are rotting. Wooden filigree is falling off. The bath fittings are primitive - the water temperature goes from freezing to scalding in a few millimetres. The one time quaint breeze blocks look over weathered. We hear the Colony Club plans to close for September 2013 for a major work programme. If true lets shout hooray. If untrue we won't return for a while. Please owners spend money else we won't be spending ours again at the Colony Club

Room Tip: No need to pay the premium for an ocean view. The trees limit the view. Instead go for a garden room...

Having just returned from a six-day stay at Colony, we have only good things to say. For me, the primary plus is the location on a lee-side beach. Beautful large trees line the beach, so if you don't want to get too much sun, you can still sit at the shore. Of course, there are many spots in the sun as well. There is a nice size swim-only zone, and also an area with decent snorkling right off the beach. The Carribean is warm!
Colony staff is welcoming, attentive and friendly. We stayed in a luxury pool side room, with a lovely patio with it's own waterfall and direct access to meandering pool. The grounds are well-kept [take the garden tour], many flowers, birds and palms of every description. Even an occasional monkey.
We were on the breakfast plan. The breakfast buffet is very ample. We also enjoyed several lunches, dinner and service on the beach. Evening entertainment was of quality. Don't miss the Sunday lunch.
Complimentary water sports of many types. All was mellow. A great spot in Barbados. Also you might want to dine at next door Coral Reef Club, this is very fine dining indeed.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the luxury pool side room.

The Colony Club is a great place to stay. It’s main strength is its staff, intelligent, caring, and good humoured. Rooms are good with some signs of some updates needed. We stayed in Ocean view and Garden view – both superior - and they we were fine. Maintenance was underway while we were there – not the hammering and banging type – but minor painting and ‘hole filling’ showing they care about what things look like.

It’s a short walk into Holetown and if you time your walk with the tide, and if you can balance on rocks – you can walk along the beach.
We had room service a fair number of times so you can sit on your balcony and look out into the night. They are flexible about what you can order – happy to amend the dishes. The food is very good. Breakfast is good but at about 08.45 you need to wait a few minutes.
There is entertainment – you can hear it throughout the hotel between 19.30 and about 22.30.
The beach is fine for the size of hotel – but be warned - you really need reef shoes as there is a band of fairly sharp coral debris and there is a sudden dip in the level.
Water sports are provided and you will not find a friendly group of guys. Like many beaches on the island there are people trying to sell you things – but it’s relaxed and friendly.
Reception is excellent and they know the island well. They can organise / suggest places to go and how to get around.

We have visited Barbados six or seven times in the last ten years. We always seem to return!
The Colony Club has been our usual destination. I like their friendliness and the welcoming attitude of the staff. We always feel at home. The hotel grounds with the swim-up accommodations, the meandering stream-like setting and waterfall are truly picturesque. There are a number of focal areas to relax and lay in the sun. The beach area is limited but, nice with a very attentive staff who bring refreshing nibbles and who keep all those tropical drinks always available. The surf shop guys are helpful too. They have inflated the air mattress that I pack for lounging in the pool many times. We love the buffet breakfast bar which has something for all tastes. We usually request the same ocean view room and enjoy the chaise on our patio, which comes in handy for a afternoon nap. We have used the hotel recommendations to secure deep sea fishing trips. Four out of the five of us caught fish and the hotel prepared us a delicious meal that evening with the dorado that we caught The other one we donated to the staff. All in all, the rooms are well equipped, the bathrooms certainly adequate. I think the location is a real asset to the hotel with Holetown so close. There are a number of excellent restaurants close by including my favorites The Tides, Daphne's, L'Acajou or The Cliff for a special night out. We hope to return soon. Barbados has something for everyone to enjoy!

Room Tip: We have always had an Ocean View Room and found them to be quiet and comfortable. There are a fligh...

We stayed at cc for 9 nights in mid January in a Luxury Ocean View room on a bed and breakfast basis. This is my Second visit to Barbados, staying previously at Crystal Cove and if looking for a direct comparison i would recommend Colony Club/and B&B hands down.
Starting with the good the hotel is in a fantastic location on the West Coast, 10 minutes walk to Holetown with its bars, restaurants and shops, making it a great base for B&B hotel for anyone looking to get out and enjoy the great restaurants on the west coast.
The hotel is a nice size at a guess around 100 rooms spread over the grounds of the pool and beach view set up. Breakfasts were standard buffet, full english available, pastries and fruit and eggs made to order.
We also found that we ate lunch in the hotel most days as it was not only convienient to roll off the beach but also really good. Expect to spend approx $150 BBD for 2 including a drink from the bar. Yes there are cheaper places to eat if you are prepared to walk down the beach.
Staff were attentive and in all did a great job, service is included on all of the food and drinks ordered at 10% but was well earned.
The beach area is quite narrow, there are possibly better hotels if you are a real beach lover. There are lots of beds quite close together and pretty much all would have a towel in place by 9am. Not a problem for us but i know this may bother others looking for more seculsion and space. Drinks service on the beach however was spot on, including the freebies of fruit and ice creams mid morning and afternoon.
Happy hour is between 4-6pm and very popular to sit at the bar or on the susset deck, drinks are not cheap here so most took advantage of the discounted cocktails!
The pool is lovely, lots of shade and comfy beds, seemed more spreadout than the beach set up.

So what will stop me returning or recommending the hotel? The room although large was in need to a refurb, it looked tired and needed new furniture and a lick of paint.
We are a married couple in our early 30's, we dont want a party hotel by any stretch but we were certainly the youngest there by a good 15-30 years. Most other guests were mid 40's to 60's+ and many repeat guests who all knew each other from previous stays.
Difficult to be too negative as we had a great holiday, lots of elements were suprisingly good but I would only return after an update to the rooms and if it was for a really good price.
Its my intention to try 'The House' another Elegant Hotels property next time around.

Room Tip: Room 101, ground floor, views of entertainment from the balcony and closest to the beach. Very good...
