“Still a good base”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

This was our 5th visit to Sunset Crest and the 4th to The Palms and I still think they are a good base. Its 7 years now since Halcyon Palms had a refurbish and it is starting to show. The furnishings are grubby rather than dirty and the fixtures all seem to have little bits of wear a tear but these little apartments still have a sunny feel to them and I think they are great value for money. The apartments are brushed out and have the bins emptied most days, towels are changes every other day and bedding change twice a week. Whilst I was there I had a look at Travellers Palm the other apartments which make up The Palms resort, they are just at the end of a complete refurbishment and look spectacular - my only concern is how much they will cost in future! I would have no hesitation in going back to The Palms however if you want 5* then find somewhere else and pay 5* prices

Room Tip: Ask for apartments 1 2 3 or 4 as these are single storey apartments

Well if your looking for cheap accomadation in Holetown then this is the place.
It is very very basic but if you want somewhere to put your head then thats about it.
Even though it wasn't dirty it never felt clean.
You wouldn't want to cook anything there but if your eating out then that's not a problem as you are spoilt for choice only five miutes or so walk away.
Few other things that were not right.
Wardrobe doors broken
Sink plug broken in bathroom
Large crack in draining board
Badly stained sink in kitchen
Hair dryer was off the wall and didnt work.
We stayed in the Halcyon as the palm resort is being re-furbished lets hope they move on to these next.
Good points were it was fairly quite
The pool was clean
And the location was excellent.

Room Tip: Try the refurbished rooms at the palm resort

Myself, wife and daughter stayed here in Oct 10. We were meant to be staying at another hotel close by but we arrived just after a storm had passed through and caused some damage across the island, so had to be moved to the Sunset Crest.
Although this wasn't the hotel we had picked we were told we would be here for a few days until out own hotel was back up and running. However, we found the place to be a decent enough place and ended up staying for the whole holiday rather than move.
The place is pretty basic as are the rooms but we found it to be a good base, clean and tidy, especially considering the position well up the west coast. The staff we also found very friendly and helpful.
The main road for buses and the beach are a short walk as is restaurants, bars and shopping at Sunset Crest.
For the price this is a decent self catering option especially when you consider the very expensive hotels along this stretch of coast but for a good central base and more affordable prices, this is ideal.

Firstly your holiday will be governed by which complex you will be allocated. The halcyon is the second of the two. Our stay in the halcyon was very pleasant with an upper room with balcony over looking very nicely tended gardens. The basis rating for the complex is given due to a very small pool area and a few scattered sun chairs that were to say the least inadequate broken and covered in mildew. A larger pool is available at the Travellers Palms although the same pattern of furniture applies sadly.
. The location of both complexes are great for local shops transport and beaches although the nearest beach is very murky due to dredging. Paynes beach stunning is a fifteen minute walk past a famous rich golfing hotel (Sandy Lane). The apartment had a lovely volted wooden ceiling. A clean and functional apartment with a good shower although a little updating needed. Plenty of cupboard space. Tip. Bring a pair of ear plugs frogs are very noisy at night.

Room Tip: For more privacy the upper rooms to the front of the Halcyon are away from the pool and offer a love...

stayed here with mum as a birthday treat, apartments are basic but has all you need and are clean diddnt spend much time in room as explored the Island.
Recommed getting air con as only fan in lounge.
was lucky enough to have room right front of pool so litteray a stones though away nice small complex as well so majority of time have pool to yourself!
central to holetown about 5 min walk to center recommed just grilln resturant and same distance to beach would also advise getting on bus a little further down road as a bit nicer
try the regee buses hey are so much fun!

it was a case of getting what you pay for. We had no intention of spending a great deal of time at the appartment, it was really just a base to sleep and shower. The appartment was basically clean but it was crying out for a lick of paint and to be refreshed a little and this would have made a big difference. Staff was great, really friendly and helpful. Was disappointed to have to pay for air con which is essential. It would be better if this cost was included in the price of the accomodation so as to avoid any surprises. i would recommend if you are happy with basic accomodation.

If you are going to Barbados to live in the lap of luxory, pampered by staff waiting expectatly for a tip, then try Sandy Lane or one of the other over-priced hotels on the West coast. Halcyon is not at the lower end of Virgins offers by chance, that said it offers everything you require as a base to tour around this magnificent Island.

Staff are friendly and more than happy to help out with requests. Rooms are more than adequate, each with living area, bedroom and balcony. There is a cooker and fridge freezer for those wanting to self cater a little.

Maid service is daily with bedding and towels changed regularly.

The pool area is being spruced up and while we were there the owner came round from India to review the premises ond suggest new changes.

Holetown is a 10 minute walk with some of the best beaches and restaurants on the whole island.

In summary do not be put off by the moaners, what do they expect for £895 for two weeks?? you would pay more than that in Blackpool for a fortnight....but that is another review
