“watch out for those birds......”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

We stayed here for a week in october 2012 and got a good deal £1200 all in with Virgin atlantic flights and private transfers.
Having recently been in the middle east in a luxury 5* hotel it was difficult not to compare the 2 experiences, however if you focus on the fact this is a 4* hotel then you won't be disappointed.
The hotel is not really 'all inclusive' as you might think, more like full board with free drinks because food was not available at all times during the day, which meant you had to eat at certain times. The drinks were always flowing though and the bar staff will make up any cocktail you want.
Start with the negatives; the room wasn't the cleanest we have stayed in and the large gap under the door meant we had a few 'unwanted guests' that appeared on several occasions. Although our room opened out straight on to the beach, it wasnt cleaned daily as you might expect, but rather every couple of days which i have never experienced before. So the bed wasnt made up, towels werent changed etc.
Then there was the birds....... if you are afraid of birds then you will not want to stay here. They dont bother us usually however it did get a bit too much at times. Because all the food is served al fresco, the birds join in. They are very brazen and will come to your table and pinch food, drink your water, leave droppings on the lids of the buffet food, and i even noticed one bird with its head in the porridge at the buffet breakfast!
I guess you just have to be on your guard and cover up your drinks, dont leave food unattended etc and you'll be ok.
Apart from that the standard of the food was good, with plenty of choice to cater for every pallet, the staff were friendly and heplful, the complimentary watersports were a nice touch.
The beach is beautiful at this hotel, although the sea is rough due to the location on the island. As there are no private beaches in Barbados, you should beware of sellers who approach you whilst sunbathing, we were even offered drugs by one man, and when we declined (i was 3 months pregnant at the time), the guy still persisted, which made us feel slightly uneasy.
Overall this is a 'good' not 'excellent' hotel but you should still give it a try and judge for yourself.

“Fantastic Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

We stayed at the Turtle Beach Resort for 10 days and would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. The rooms were very good and cleaned on a daily basis with bed linen being changed every other day. All staff at the resort were very friendly and approachable especially Captain Sam and his staff on the beach. A special thankyou to Gregg and Ricky who always went that extra mile and Maradona too who always happended to be there with a nice cold drink just when you needed one. The hotel has WiFi throughout which was brilliant especially if your like me and need to check on work emails etc (office on the beach) St Lawrence Gap is a short walk away with some really good restaurants. Pisces was very good and also Rush which used to be the The Ship Inn was excellent. There were 7 of us and we all ordered different meals and every one of them was delicious especially the pork curry. Cant wait to book again..

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor overlooking the small pool area (Room 120) which was lovely

Great clean rooms and roomy as there was 3 of us, food was never ending and a vast choice and of excellent quality. Sam and crew on the beach could not do more for us, and the numerous girls in the restaurants were helpful , chatty and friendly. I would reccomend to anyone

“Friendly and welcoming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

Leaving England in February behind for a week in the Sun, we were warmly welcomed by the staff of the hotel after a long but direct flight from Manchester.

The first thing that hit me about the hotel was that everyone seemed to be so friendly. Even though the hotel was full, reception staff remembered me by name and nothing was too much trouble.

There are 3 restaurants, one of which you usually need to book in advance and need to be a bit smarter, which is nice, whilst the others are more casual and at least one is always buffet style. There is a range of food each night and the themes seem to run on a weekly basis. The fish dishes were very good and cocktails recommended! Evening entertainment was varied and the nights we watched were good. Usually singers or groups. With breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and evening meals we were well fed!

The pools were clean and well kept although with the Caribbean 10m further on why bother with a pool!! Nice beach/pool towels were provided in exchange for a plastic card provided at check in. Be warned, a lost card= US$30. The beach was well kept and there was always plenty of space. All beaches in Barbados are public so occasionally traders went by but they were polite and no hassle. The hotel employs efficient security and were always around. We felt safe wherever we went on the island (although a little obvious being very white!)

The room had a digital safe - easy to use, and our room was exactly as the hotel pictures show so were very pleased. We opted for a pool/garden view and on the ground floor had access to a lovely garden area. The maids were cheery and efficient. We hired a car for a day (~£90) and toured the island - we had no problems, except for getting lost. The roads can be a bit rough but the roadsigns are all as in the uk and they drive on the left. (Automatic cars).

So, our week was over and we returned to a -1C Manchester with a couple of bottles of rum, a tan and happy memories of a brill holiday. All we left behind was our thanks for a great stay.

“Great Holiday Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for a relaxing holiday. The staff are very friendly and attentive and in particular, Captain Sam and his Crew on the beach work hard to offer an exceptional experience. The food was always very good and high quality (if a little repeatative over two weeks). The restaurant staff are attentive and as with the whole hotel staff willing to go the 'extra mile'. Criticisms? Very few, perhaps a more varied lunch offer (salads and light snacks would be good), but what is offered is excellent. In addition, maybe some later entertainment. However these are minor. This hotel is a stand out gem and we will be back (hopefully).
