“A rough diamond”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

We recently returned from 8 days at turtle bay and we had a great time.

We arrived to a rum punch and a lovely greeting and were shown to a very well decked out room with a super view across a turquoise ocean. The pools and gardens were lovely and were a perfect relaxing setting and the beach itself was truly idyllic.
There are a few things though that would have improved our stay. The bar, reception and cleaning staff were very friendly however the waiters/waitresses could be a little dismissive at times, especially the breakfast chefs who at times bordered on rude. The food at breakfast was good, plenty of variety. Dinner was similar, especially asiagos which was our restaurant of choice at every opportunity! Lunch however tended to be a different deal, the buffet was very "samey" and tended to be left in the heaters for the whole 3 hour service. There was a grill at every sitting however so the was the opportunity to have something cooked on order which was good.

In general I really liked the resort and if you could change a few of the attitudes and improve the lunchtime meals it would have been 5 stars.

We stayed for 10 nights and can honestly say this was a perfect location. The best thing about our stay were the staff, amazingly friendly and helpful. Thanks
If you are looking for an all inclusive, you should try Turtle beach, the food was wonderful evryday with a wide selection of choices.
The watersports team led my captain sam, a great team and very helpful.

“Relaxing but deficient”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

We just returned from a week at Turtle Beach with a large group of multiple ages and multiple rooms. Overall, we had a relaxing time at this property, but there were a number of negatives which definitely detracted from a better experience.

Barbados is a beautiful and rustic island with great beaches, including one right behind the hotel. Combined with a few nice pools to splash around in, the exterior of the property was visually beautiful.

First, I must note that the Kids Club was amazing, the sitters warm and attentive, and this made a huge impression on all of us. There was always something for the little ones to do, and the staff cared for them in a really quality way. The hotel really was family and kid-friendly - with the exception of Asiago restaurant, little ones are welcome anywhere at any time.

The remainder of the staff was hit or miss. Nobody was outwardly rude, but a good crash course in customer service is sorely needed from the top down at this hotel. Most of the staff couldn't be bothered. Asking multiple times for coffee refills and extra napkins became the norm. I understand the concept of "island time" but these people did their jobs like they didn't care less.

The food quality was sorely lacking and generally did not taste fresh. Fruit and vegetables were in rare supply, and the all-inclusive alcohol wasn't terribly appealing. This was a case of quantity over quality. Asiagos restaurant was a bit better than the others, and worth reserving for multiple nights. Keep in mind that dinner reservations can be made 1 day in advance and not every restaurant is open each night. This policy is frankly stupid. After being told we could not be accommodated for a 7:00 table, we were stupefied to see the restaurant completely at that hour, and for hours later. Are they trying not to overwhelm a staff which just doesn't understand how to hustle?

The rooms were chain hotel variety, and cleaned well for a tropical location where most people track considerable sand around. Furnishings and linens could use an update, but you don't go to Barbados to stay in the room. This isn't a luxury property and you're not paying for luxury here. The "suites" are just rooms with space for a pull-out sofabed. If you need the extra space, you may need a whole extra room.

Don't bother with the spa - it was located in a hotel room, and barely open during the busiest part of December. One member of our group booked a massage and had it summarily cancelled without notice or an actual explanation. Don't expect to be pampered here.

Did we like our vacation? Yes. Would we go back? Probably not. Turtle Beach could have been pretty amazing. But the food and staff were big detractions from the overall experience. I'm not the first one to write this - why don't they just fix it and earn themselves a lot of repeat business? Who knows...

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms have patios right on the pool deck and are practically on the beach. Worth it.

“Relaxing and very enjoyable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012 via mobile

We stayed for two weeks here and wondered if we would get a bit bored, but not at all.
Rooms - we're kept immaculate, cleaned daily and bed linen changed every other day
Food- we thoroughly enjoyed all the food. We ate in Assiagos 3 times, waterfront every lunch time, when open and also A la Carte when available. The buffet restaurant was good too. My daughter is a vegetarian, but she found food to suit her at every meal.
Staff- the staff at this hotel make the holiday. Every one of them are a credit to this hotel. One young man Daquaria was so lovely and nothing was too much trouble for him. We found out he was temporary, but he really deserves to be made permanent. He served us in the restaurants and for drinks and always had the most beautiful smile.
finally, I know many people have mentioned Captain Sam and his team and I must say they were amazing.
I commented to Sam that we have a business back in the UK and would be very proud to have a team as dedicated, helpful and cheerful as his team.
Well done Elegant hotels on this gem and your fantastic staff.
We rarely return to the same hotel twice, but would not hesitate to go back the the Turtle Beach.

“Adequate but somewhat disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012 via mobile

Stayed the first week of December but the staff's demeanour overall suggested the end of a gruelling season! The beach, sea and room were all lovely despite a dodgy pipe in the bathroom that sounded like a tornado warning on two mornings! The maintenance team did respond promptly, however. We opted for an ocean view room and were very pleased we did as there was live entertainment every evening near the main part of the hotel. Food was reasonably good although it was nigh on impossible to get into the Italian restaurant which is only open on alternate evenings and hard to book. Although some of the hotel staff were reasonably cheerful overall we saw none of the Caribbean hospitality we have experienced on other islands. Mostly they were extraordinarily rude. Although the weather was good, the sea warm and the sand soft I doubt we would go back to Barbados.
