“Maybe it would have been fun . . .”
I can only give this attraction a "Terrible" score because I never actually got to see it. Let me explain . . .
My boyfriend and I called up Malibu on a Tuesday to make a reservation for Wednesday to take the tour, eat lunch, and lay out on their beach. No one answered the phone at 10am (their hours are advertised from 9am - 5pm), so we left a message with our name, hotel name, hotel phone number, and hotel room number so they could call us back. A couple of hours later (we hadn't heard back from them yet), we left the hotel and went into Bridgetown. Since we were so close to Malibu at that point, we decided to stop by and make a reservation IN PERSON. We found Malibu relatively easily (they were well-marked unlike other attractions in Barbados). When we walked into the gift shop, there was no one to be found. We kept looking and found about 4 or 5 people crowded into an office in the corner. We approached the office (no one really made an attempt to approach us) and asked to make a reservation (we explained that we had called earlier but they didn't act like they had heard our message). When we asked if we could make the reservation for the following day, they said no. They didn't give an explanation, but we have found that you need to press Bajans for more information, so we eventually found out that they don't book reservations on days that cruise ships come in. So we agreed to a reservation a few days later. We gave our names, hotel name, and hotel room number. They said that a shuttle would come by the morning of our reservation at 10am.
This morning was supposed to be our Malibu tour. We made every effort to get to the parking lot of our hotel by 9:55am, where we waited for about 10 minutes. Then, we went back up to our room, where we still had a perfect view of the hotel parking lot. Additionally, we called Malibu to find out if anyone was coming to get us. Even though it was during their open hours, no one answered the phone. And since we had no reason to believe that anyone had listened to our last message from several days ago, we didn't leave a message.
I don't think it is likely that we missed the shuttle. We had met a shuttle the previous day to go on another excursion and that worked out perfectly. Also, our hotel has security right at the entrance to the parking lot, so if the Malibu shuttle driver needed to call our room to look for us, the security guard could have helped out. There are so many reasons that we believe that we were stood up.
From what I have read, it seems like other people have dealt with the disinterested, rude employees at Malibu. I'm so glad that we didn't end up spending $85 USD (for 2 people) on this attraction, and I hope you will consider what we went through when you are planning your activities on the island.
