“Wonderful holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

Just back from a week at The Sugar Cane hotel and Spa. Had a wonderful time and Rod and the team were very helpful. Our rooms had a sea view, were very clean and air conditioned. We were staying on a bed and breakfast package as we thought there might be restaurants round about that we could try. However without a car there was nowhere within walking distance. We ate most of the time at the hotel. The buffet nights were great but the a la carte menu on the other nights was disappointing. Portions were small. The soup we had was tasteless and my seafood stir fry lacked seafood. We felt we were being treated like those on the all inclusive package. Drinks were not of any great quality and the breakfast orange juice was watered down too much. however on a brighter not.............Thank you to Gregory for the shuttle bus service into town, Neil for his friendly bar service and the restaurant staff too many to mention. Thanks also to Rod for arranging our Green Monkey Massages which were not included in our package. Hopefully we will return here some other time.

Room Tip: We loved the sea view room we had although the fan from the kitchen was not turned off till ten thir...

We stayed with another couple before and after a cruise from Barbados. The cruise certainly did not eclipse the hotel stays even though that was fantastic. The hotel gave us everything we had expected and a lot more besides.
The rooms were suites and if you were staying SC, you would have everything you might need, but we, like all others we came across, chose AI. The drinks were sometimes not quite the top -most quality, but were serve with either great aplomb or a huge sense of fun.
The food was fine to very good and we chose one night to eat at the chattle shed which had a great atmosphere.
The grounds were well kept with a gully walk which you could take Rodney, who told you about the flora and fauna. The photos in the brochure do not do it justice.
The spa facilities were very relaxing and we were offered a complimentary massage which was as good as any top priced one.
The staff all worked hard and were extremely knowledgeable about a variety of subjects and always ready to talk, even when they were busy.
A great place which we hope to return to some day.

Room Tip: We opted for one of the few, truly sea-view rooms. It seemed to be same size as others but view was...

Having stayed at the Sugar Cane in previous years, we thought we would give other hotels on the island a try. Well, although they were ok, they didn't live up to the quality that is the Sugar Cane. Thank you to Rod and all the staff. What a wonderful 'crew' they are. Nothing is too much trouble and everything done with a smile and a genuine "your welcome". We always stay on an all inclusive basis and are never disappointed with the food and service. Thank you once again. We will be back next year.
Brian and Margaret.

We stayed at the Sugarcane from the 29th March - 10th April and it was truly the most memorable holiday. The staff at the hotel are the most attentive thoughtful i have encountered a special thank you to Roy for the Aloe vera, Neil for outstanding service and smiles, Rodney, Jeanne and of course Sade. The reception staff are so efficient always very helpful. The hotel has a lovely atmosphere and the standards are high throughout but the food deserves a very special mention because it is of a consistent amazing standard in La Salsa that anyone could want and more. My only problem is trying to adjust back to reality having been so thoroughly spoilt. To meet with the Manager so regularly is rare but to meet with the owner and to be asked for genuine feedback is something else. The people we met, the staff, the food and the tranquil surroundings will make us return time and time again.

Room Tip: We had second floor which was lovely but I imagine they are all equally as good

We stayed at the Sugarcane from the 25th March - 4th April and enjoyed a very memorable holiday. The staff at the hotel are first class, thank you Roy, Neil, Yvette, General, Yvette, Rodney and Sade. The reception staff are so efficient always very helpful.

The hotel has a lovely atmosphere and the standards in every area are excellent. The boat trip to see the turtles is not to be missed. The restaurant food managed by David is exceptional.

The gardens are beautifully cared for. We had a garden room and were lucky enough to see alot of monkey activity in the early morning. I went on the gulley walk with Rodney who was very informative. Again not to be missed. The walk can be done on your own but 100% better with Rodney.

The art gallery displaying work of their resident artist Mirilda is really colourful and interesting. The pictures are for sale. There are prints of the artists work in the rooms again a nice touch.

Very easy to get to the beach if you want on the shuttle bus organised by the hotel. Heywards beach is unspoilt, plenty of trees for shade. Mullens beach is also an option is more commercialised with sun loungers and bars. The hotel's bus will also drop in Speightstown. Definately worth a trip or two there.

The rooms are large comfortable and kept very clean by the housekeeping staff. Having a fully equiped kitchen is exceptional

The Sugarcane is in our opinion outstanding. Barbados is a lovely country with very friendly people. We went out to the Oistins annual festival and had a lovely day out. We had such an amazing time so much so that we are hoping to return to the lovely Sugarcane.

Room Tip: The garden rooms were our preference as we could see the monkeys and would choose that option again.

My mother and I chose Sugar Cane Club due to the many great reviews on here but we never expected it to match up to the reviews.
We were booked into a ground floor room but wanted a first floor room and Priscilla, the receptionist was very quick to sort out a room change which we were grateful for.
The room was immaculate and had a beautiful view of the gardens and the ocean; we couldn't believe how lucky we were.
The Gully Walk with Rodney was fantastic and the glass bottom boat trip with the General is also a must and we stopped off and swam with the turtles which was an amazing experience.
Roy, the bar tender was great, looking after us throughout our stay and always having time to check up on us to see how we were enjoying our day.
The food at this hotel is fantastic and we couldn't believe that as all-inclusive customers, we would be offered such a large variety of dishes including swordfish, steak and mahi-mahi, all cooked to perfection. A major thank you to David Yarde and his team for every meal they cooked for us. A special thanks to Sade for being a super waitress and going that extra mile, even to the point of walking us down to where the monkeys were so we could get our last photos of them before we went back home.
You will receive an invitation to the rum punch party before supper on one of your nights where you meet the Manager, Peter Charles, who is very charming and welcoming; the rum punch is also delicious. Peter is always around anyway, being helpful with Island information and checking on each and every guest which is a rare and wonderful quality in a hotel.
There really isn't anything negative we could say about this hotel apart from the very loud air con unit we had in our room but you simply just need to take ear plugs or have the window open at night.
Every member of staff made our stay very special and we can't wait to be back there next year.

Room Tip: You get a better view from first floor rooms

Rarely would I arrive in a hotel and feel so totally calm and soothed as soon as I arrive. The welcome is warm and unhurried and throughout our stay even at busy times the staff were invariably helpful and unruffled. Every 'thank you' is always followed with a genuine 'you're welcome' and the caring attention that was shown to our 84 year old Mum was exemplary. Such an atmosphere created by the staff is clearly transmitted from the Manager, and Peter is to be complimented on the professional yet friendly ethos he has created at Sugar Cane Club. The food is excellent and the enthusiastic chef David creates a consistently high quality range to cater for all tastes. The bathrooms were a little tired but housekeeping kept everything spotlessly clean so that's the important thing. Pretty beaches are within easy reach and I would say the tranquility of the lovely grounds (complete with monkeys) more than made up for being a little inland. All in all this hotel just gets it so right - the perfect, peaceful place to recharge and be pampered. Thank you to all at Sugar Cane.
