“Fabulous Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

Dar Zitoune is situated just outside the town of Taroudant and the entrance belies what you find inside. The rooms are individual bungalows set in lovely landscaped gardens and are furnished and equipped beautifully with a private terrace with tables and chairs. There is a lovely large swimming pool and jacuzzi and a great Hamman which my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed - what a treat! The breakfasts were lovely with fresh fruit and delicious pastries and hot options such as eggs, ham etc. - different choices every day. The restaurant has a lovely open fire and the evening 5-course meal was excellent with freshly cooked Moroccan dishes with a touch of sophistication. All in all, excellent value for money and everything was well appointed and in very good decorative order - it would put some 5 star hotels I have stayed in to shame, which can sometimes be a little tired. Would recommend this hotel without hesitation.

The bungalows are excelent value for money. Clean and well appointed. Swimming pool area and gardens look great and will give you a holiday feeling. It's a small drive to Taroundant, with it's Sunday market, walls and lovely views over the surrounding mountains.

We enjoyed an excellent break at Dar Zitoune, having left wet and cold England in January and arriving to 28 degree sunshine in Taroudant. The bungalows are scattered through gardens of orange and lemon trees and all have private terraces where you can enjoy a superb breakfast. The large pool looked lovely but was unheated at this time of year. However, the small pool was beautifully warm with the added attraction of jacuzzi. Tortoises wandered across the numerous paths in the gardens and created great amusement.
Lunches and dinners were superb and we particularly enjoyed the candlelit restaurant with open fire as the temperature drops suddenly in the evening at this time of year. We will certainly be returning.

Taroudant is said to have the best winter weather in Morocco, and Dar Zitoune is an excellent choice if you want to enjoy it. The room are scattered in bungalows around a beautiful garden, full of tortoises and orange tress. There is a large, although unheated, pool and a smaller heated one as well. Breakfast, which is delicious and enormous, is served all morning. Dinner is a more formal affair, but the food is good and the service unfailingly attentive and cheerful. Dar Zitoune is not the cheapest option in Taroudant, but it is good value and a lovely place to while away a few lazy days.

This is a lovely place to stay. All the rooms had private patio gardens and ours was beautifully decorated and well maintained. The warm pool was lovely , swimming up and down in the orange trees with the scent of roses and tortoises wandering round. The staff were calm, friendly and helpful. The town of Taroudant is a 20DHS ride away. The quality of everything here is very good and the attention to detail is superb.
We loved wrapping up in the evening and having dinner infront of the fire and then breakfast in the sun in the garden.
Although the quality of the food very good, filet steak, sole, lamb the execution of the dishes wasn't quite right and they were served undercooked and tepid. For our first night , there was no choice and I think the curry had been reheated. It did get better as the week got busier and it did not stop us enjoying our stay but it was a disappointment.

Room Tip: There is a bit of traffic noise so if you are bothered by that you may wish to ask for a room away f...

Booked last minute as an antidote to the grey UK winter and felt better immediately upon arrival (easy drive c 1 hour from Agadir airport).
The hotel and grounds are beautifully designed and maintained, plenty of privacy and peace in the well spaced rooms and lots of lovely public areas too. All staff are delightful and the pace of everything is relaxed and when you want it, rather than sticking to rigid deadlines. Zero stress, maximum relaxation, high smile count.
The food is fabulous, the wine compliments this perfectly.
The pools are beautiful and clean. The large pool is unheated so a little bracing in January, but the small pool is a nice temperature with jacuzzi and water jet areas. Plenty of loungers and pool towels are provided.
Peaceful nights ensure a good sleep (garden lights are switched off after midnight, great for star gazing) and then you wake to bird song in the morning, heavenly!
Cannot wait to return.

So much to report - here are the highlights after staying for 4 nights:

Food is very good. Breakfast runs until noon and you can have it inside the restaurant, outside at the pool, the outside sitting area or on your room veranda. Everything is fresh and tasty. Lunch is avaible of a menu most the day. Dinner starts at 8pm and revolves around a 5 course menu which you need to choose from at least 30 min in advance (while enjoying a bottle of Moroccan red wine outside) as the chef needs time to make everything fresh from scratch.

Rooms are a good size, clean, lots of hot water.

January was quiet, calm, and peaceful and everyone is friendly and wanting to make your stay comfortable. If you want peace and quiet this is a good place to get it. If you want excitement and entertainment then go elsewhere.

One place we would go back to if we returned to Morocco. My only regret was not staying long enough to try all the red wines on the menu.
