“Dar Zitoune - a superb and consistently high quality home from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2012

We stumbled on this wonderful gem of a hotel in 2007 having emerged from the Atlas mountains very much the worse for wear after a long long back to nature trek. We have returned now on four occasions and we can't rate it highly enough. The staff are friendly, supportive and consistently helpful. The rooms are beautifully decorated and maintained; idyllic in a setting of plush orange, lemon and lime trees, gorgeous flowers and a fantastic pool and jacuzzi. You can lounge for hours by the water looked after by attentive staff who deliver drinks to your poolside loungers; you can take an al fresco lunch with great food - salads, tajines; quaffable and affordable wines. Breakfast is delivered to your room or suite every morning; again - delicious options including honey pancakes, fresh fruit, pastries, coffees and teas. Evening meals are superb, five courses including a cheese plate. The staff are the real attraction. Their customer care is second to none, and they are totally dedicated to ensuring that you have a great stay. And the venue is only five minutes from town, and Taroudant is such a find; almost biblical in look and feel - and so much to see in the area. Love it and look forward to going back soon.

Room Tip: Junior suites are lovely; but all of the rooms are superb, quiet, cleaned daily

Hotel's location is not perfect, 4km outside of the town just next to the main road. Rooms are very nice with lots of place and nice bathrooms. Pool lools very nice. Food was only average and staff was not very friendly. For EUR 160 for a double room inc. breakfast and dinner pricing was not cheap (relative to other hotels in Morocco).

I spent part of Good Friday sitting by the pool under a lemon tree feeding small pieces of langues de chat to a pair of fearless bulbuls - the biter bit. A chilly April wind from the west disguised the strength of the sun this time of the year - beware. The gardens are full of beautiful plants - bright flowers and huge fruit - and the birdsong is deafening and exquisite. The food was generally excellent, especially the fish but excluding the industrial club sandwich, and the staff were uniformly pleasant and helpful. You have to be a reasonably confident francophone here although the manager and some of the waiters and speak good English. Although there is any amount of alcohol available the Moroccans are not terribly good at it, so keep expectations lowish in this area. The room was large and well appointed and very comfortable and the housekeeping was excellent - clean linen, bottled water and fresh fruit, and a plate of little patisserie items each day, too. We had a guided tour of Taroudant itself (and yes, she bought a berber rug) and an all-day 4x4 trip to the western end of the High Atlas, which we would recommend. The splendid view from the front of the hotel is of the Antiatlas mountains.

Agadir Airport is not that bad, really, I suppose. If you are unlucky enough not to spot a goat climbing an argan tree by the road from the airport....

We started our first trip to Morocco at this calm and spacious spot, a few miles down the main road from Taroudant, and felt it was a great place to use as a base to go out and explore, with the staff attentive and helpful throughout.
Food was good and varied, and the rooms spacious and well-appointed. One thing to watch out for (which we only found out towards the end of our trip is a standard scam) is the helpful guide who coincidentally is there to meet you whne ou arrive in your taxi in town, claiming to work at the hotel. We actually found the tour he gave us very helpful and had no complaints, but it wasn't a straightforward transaction!

Room Tip: As far away as possible from the main road outside

The first thing that hits you when you arrive is the sound of birdsong. bulbuls, blackbirds, sparrows, chaffinches; then the scent of orange blossom. The gardens are beautifully planted and maintained, as is all of the hotel, and immediately make you relax.
Everything that has been written in the glowing reviews of this small hotel is true thanks to the charming owner Marc and general manager Monaime, who heads up a team of universally friendly and efficient staff. The only problem, the food is so good that rather more of me left the Dar Zitoune than arrived!
A special mention should be made of Mustapha the driver and the lovely lady in the hammam whose massages send you to sleep.

Room Tip: The dawn chorus starts with an amazingly punctual bulbul at precisely 6:00 am. I rather liked it, bu...

We had high expectations of this Riad and were not disappointed from start to finish. beautifully designed buildings in a stunning garden setting with a wonderful swimming pool. Perfect service from the nicest people and the fabulous food. It is a credit to the owner and all who are involved. If you are staying beware the Bull Bull's wake up call at 6.00am. Hamman, gym, sauna a welcome bonus. The hotel organised trips for us at short notice and went the extra mile taking us to the Grand Souk in Agadir for a special leather jacket purchase for one of our group. The memories of a gloriously relaxed week will stay with us for a long time. We will return.

Room Tip: Bungalows to the rear of the small might be quieter. Not all have patios.

Reviewed this riad following our first trip in July 2011 - it left such an impression (never written reviews before) that we returned in September 2011 - just wanted to say that it is still brilliant! nothing whatsoever is wrong with this idyllic hideaway. It is still charm personified with fabulous food.
All of the staff are exceedingly professional and friendly and the owner and manager always make time to greet their guests when on site.
The gardens are a delight, the rooms are amazing - individually designed, all truly Moroccan and beautifully furnished.
The pool area is kept spotless by Ali - it as an oasis of peace and quiet interrupted only by birdsong in the daytime and the insects at night.

Will we return? Oh Yes!
