“Escape to old world elegance, this hotel is a glorious retreat to relax in sumptuous surrounds.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2011

Excellent retreat away from the world to the days of elegance and luxury. The suites were amazingly beautiful and offer excellent views of the blooming gardens. The organic farm contributes to the fantastic local food offer. Morinings are glorious when you wake up to the birds symphony and have breakfast on your private outdoor patio. The olympic size heated pool is perfect for swimming and lounging.
The staff is lovely and very helpful in every way. The hotel is perfect for couples or families with private suites offering 5 star service. The spa offers fantastic treatments.

wonderful rural setting with superb private bungalows; excellent breakfast on a private patio; good lunch around the pool but for this price the quality of dinner was disappointing

3 friends had a pretty much perfect five days here. Cold nights are helped by log fires in the bedrooms, deliciously warm days can be spent wandering through herb and rose gardens and orange groves or swimming in the just-heated-enough pool. The hotel is in the middle of a biodynamic farm, where almost all of the food, except local fish from Agadir, comes from; it is delicious, very healthy and so sophisticated that it is very simple. Everything is in great taste..the service is sympathetic and discreet, the manager fabulous and responsive and the guests an interesting, even eccentric, mix.. We took a guide for a day and walked through small villages near the High Atlas mountains and we visited the local Berber souk in Taroudant but otherwise the peace, quiet and beauty of the hotel was all we needed.

We read various reviews about la gazelle d'or before booking it - we were concerned that it wouldn't live up to the comments about it but it did! Just a four hour flight and you swap the grey skies of the UK for 24 degrees, blue skies, orange grove and roses in full bloom.

The 'rooms' are wonderful - we had a junior jacaranda suite which was actually a sizeable one bed cottage with its own terrace with views of the snow topped mountains. It is important to go half board as there is nothing of note in Taroudant and anyway the food is not to be missed in the hotel - the menu is changed daily and caters for everyone's tastes.

All of the staff at la gazelle were warm and friendly too - so much nicer than the sulky, can't really be bothered attitude that you get in 5 star resorts in the caribbean these days. All in all, a real joy. Pricey but we would prefer to spend the extra on the experience than on a long haul flight.

We stayed at the Gazelle d'Or in June and I have to say that we couldn't have asked for a better place to relax. The food was great, the service excellent and the staff was incredible. Everything is grown on site and one couldn't ask for a healthier menu. I loved everything about this estate. I even got a chance to spend a bit of time with one of the chefs (Rachid I believe is his name) who showed me how to make a chicken Tajine. The Reservation Manager & pianist was very knowledgeable and friendly. I can't think of a better ambassador for this establishment than Pierre, the new Director. He has such a great taste....
We will definitely go back again and recommend it to anyone who wants to have a great and unique experience in Morocco.

If you've ever wondered where the very wealthy go on holiday, now you know: La Gazelle d'Or. Nearing Easter, we paid top dollar, something like €600 a night, - we can't be sure because we still daren't look at the bill. For this we had our own bungalow furnished with sumptuous restraint, breakfast on our own terrace and dinner. Men - take jackets or you'll be like me, trying to look cool in a gilet. While the food is excellent it is one of those dining rooms where guests whisper. One night two queens walked in, no, I mean real Queens, of real nations, and very regal they were, too. But celebrity guests demand privacy and this is what you get. Set in at least a hundred acres of glorious woodland, gardens and pools you will feel sequestered. Nightingales sang all day long, and in the evening the charming, cultured maitre, Adam, played the piano after dinner. Yes, it's expensive but you won't resent a penny of it.

We recently spent two weeks touring the south of Morocco, staying in very different hotels, all very good in their own ways. One of these will always stand out as much more than very good, and it is the Gazelle. We had some trepidations booking, because some Tripadvisor reviews were less than clement and appreciative, alas there are petty and bickering people all aruond. We found the most fantastic gardens, enormous spaces for us and our dog to roam, scented orchards of oranges, lemons, roses(not in season),and a working ferme. We loved our pavillion(but do think that a working door bell would have saved everyone some grace-staff do turn up very quickly!)The house and the pavillions are outstanding in their design -you will find yoursef in a Moroccan Art Deco paradise-rooms,carpets,furniture,bed linens-it is all so good and beautiful!.Some areas of the main house are perhaps a bit Disneyland Morocco-and accordingly less impressive.
This is however only true for a small part of the premises-most of them are fantastic-you are in the home of a person with great taste.
The staff at the Gazelle were lovely, very friendly-we particularilly liked the gardeners, the chaps in the bar and the restaurant,as well as the pool attendant.Management was not
very visible, but also not needed by us.On the other hand,a chat now and then would not
have bothered, but rather enchanted us.As a philip,we got to know and love the resident dogs-two great Labs, both blondes,by the names of Timo and Bingo,Our equally blonde but somewhat bigger Bruno truly enjoyed the companionship(as did we-great dogs)! The canine get togheter at 7 pm ,organised by the resident dogs, one of which likes to bark loudly(lovely and old chap as he is) did not really amuse us,and probablly non dog holding guests even less.
Interestingly, interguest communiction is subdued, to say the best-it is clear that the crushed raspberry cuorderoy brigade of a certain age a la Matthew's grandfather (Alex McCallSmith) finds this a very rocking place-others may find it sedate and looking for Jimmy,Mick and The Boss .Alas-no great need to worry about great celebrity density-there are more of retired post master generals around. This needs to be fixed-we propose Tyler Brulee as a consultant and agent provocateuer for a cooler place, with a rocking spirit-having said this we'll return in September to savour some days in the most lovely place.
D&C Goeransson(avec Bruno-chien)

Overall-we love the Gazelle, for its gardens, for its style, for its dogs, for its most of the time good food.We would wish to find the management loving its guests in a similar fashion, and also its dogs.
Overall a great place, needing to think about its future with a new and classier clientele.
We'll be back soon, and we'll bring our children to rock the sedate and somewhat tired place-it is so wonderful and needs a rejuviation, and and creative kick up somewhere.
The restaurant served up good to very good stuff,,and offered a very good wine list.Again, most staff members were great, but some hesitant-a good place and service always starts at the head of a place, and it is perhaps not clear to us how this great place is run.It is great ,and could be outstanding.
With great admiration for a beatiful house,we are happy to have had the chance to look
after your dogs-and Bruno agrees.Of course ,Bruno is a trained gun dog,and as such
needs some time to domesticate less well trained dogs(like Timo and Bingo-charming chaps). At the end ,he will lovingly say to his canice chums-pull your socks up!
