Taroudant is surprising. We drove the hour or so drive from Agadir through a wonderful landscape of olive trees, verdant farmland and a view of the Atlas Mountains. Taroudant old town with its ancient city wall is well preserved and so reminiscent of Marrakesh but without the tourists. It seemed we were the only ones there. Our guide walked us through the various markets and town square. While shop owners encouraged us to buy they were good humoured when we showed no interest. The townspeople were genuinely pleasant and the whole experience for us as visitors was very favourable.
