“My regular lunch haunt”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

I go here all the time for lunch; right in the middle of the main square in town; crazily cheap; gorgeous owner and staff, always welcoming and charming, and joking. Food not at all special but perfectly good - 3 courses for EUR 4.

“Licensed to overcharge!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

We were brought here by a local who was clearly looking for commission. We never got to see a menu with any prices and straight off the owner was cracking gags about us buying food for four. We were a party of three, so we took this to mean we were going to be paying for our 'friend'. In other circumstances, we would have left there and then, but it was late and we were starving. When it arrived, the food was just about ok, brochettes & frites x 2, and vegetables and cous-cous with soft drinks. Everywhere else a meal like this comes out at around 40-50dhs a head, but when we asked for the bill we were stung for 80dhs each. There's no prices displayed so nothing firm to argue about. No tip left other than this one... Don't go there!

“Good fare on the square”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2012

We have never stayed here as we live in Taroudant but must have eaten here a couple of score times. The meal is not the cheapest you can get in town but at 55Dh is hardly expensive and the ambiance sitting in Place Assareg watching the people, storyteller, snakecharmer , musicians etc etc cannot be beaten. It is recognised as such as it is the place where all the guides of smaller group tours take their clients for lunch. The meal consists of moroccan salad with bread and choice of water and then either meat, chicken or vegetable couscous, meat or chicken tajine, or meat or chicken brochettes with chips, followed by fresh friut. It costs slightly less if you opt for an omelette. It is consistently good hence our returning. After Eid there will only be chicken options for a couple of weeks because no meat is being butchered. Moussa will look after you find you a table and shade and show you up to the Hotel if you need the toilets.

“Terrible!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2011

Went here on the strength of a single positive Tripadvisor review - always a gamble! Ate beef brochettes and a chicken tagine. The food was just about edible - the brochettes were as much gristle as beef and the chicken (breast) was pretty tough going - that must have been one ancient bird.

We ate on the terrace looking out over the square closely observed by a mangy and smelly cat who kept miaowing plaintively for scraps. The only positive aspect of this experience was the gruff mustachioed waiter who made us laugh with his bossy manner. Walk inside to the bar area and the stench of the loo hits you with almost physical force. Never ever go here!!!
