One would not expect this fabulous, clean and luxurious B&B in this small village near Taroudant. The Belgian owners of Kasbah Gousteau and their Moroccan staff (the caretaker Abdelhadi and the kitchen princess Zahara) spoiled us from the first till the last minute of our seven days stay. Not only the owners were very friendly, but also Abdelhadi and Zahara, for whom no request was to difficult to fulfill. Abdelhadi would borrow bikes for us in the village, find us the best saffran I ever tasted, buy exquisite musq essence from a friend, serve the best tea at every hour (and he taught us how it is to be made!). Mention it and consider it done! His sister Zahara prepared the most delicious and healthy meals, every single day. These two jewels stole our hearts. We came as foreigners and left as friends.
The large property has a cosy courtyard, a big garden with pool, a beautiful yard with a stable for their three donkeys, well appointed orientally decorated rooms, each with private ensuite, a small bar, library with computer and internet in a tower, and a spacious lounge. The whole property is surrounded by the traditional high, thick clay walls, just like every other house in the small town and just like the city walls of Taroudant, Whatever temperature outside, the rooms are always cool, without air conditioning.
Fifteen minutes on bike from the beautiful city of Taroudant - yes on bike, we used them every day to go to town, throught the oued and the fields, greeted by all the village people, and every single person on a donkey or a bicycle. Though the owners picked us up by car at the taxi stand in Taroudant and took us there again at the end of our stay and though they were so friendly to offer us different kinds of trips in their car, we enjoyed biking to Taroudant and in Taroudant itself : through the souks, in the kasbah, to the market. It was a marvelous way to get to know this totally authentic, beautiful city of Taroudant, surrounded by its majestic walls.
We were so glad that we had totally skipped Marrakech, although we had landed on Marrakech Airport. A cheap taxiride took us immediately away from this huge touristic city with more than a million inhabitants, a lot of traffic, modern streets. Three to four hours south of Marrakech lies Taroudant and the tiny village of Sidi Amara just a short bikeride away.
When we left, we were hugged goodbye, not only by the owners and the staff but also by the neighbour and her lovely little daughter, who greeted us every day when we stepped on our bikes to go to Taroudant.
So close to Marrakech but so far from its hustle and bustle we have discovered a pearl of authentic Moroccon culture and its friendly people.
