Frau Eva and Frau Waltraud Scherlin run this hotel with such enthusiasm. The hotel has wonderful views of the mountains. The standard double room we had was clean, spacious and well equipped. We had one of the rooms in the new part of the hotel which was very quiet and peaceful. The large choice of food was very good including the afternoon tea and you could either have lunch at the hotel or make yourself a picnic from the buffet. All in all a lovely 3 night stay. The only thing I would say is that if you want a peaceful stay if you have no children check when the schools are on holiday. If you have children this has to be a perfect holiday they go out of their way to make sure there is something for the children everyday. There is a free bus that runs every hour to take you down to the town or the cable car to the mountains. It is certainly a little gem. We were touring Europe and this was our first stop.

We stayed for a week during which the weather deteriorated from hot and sunny to cold and wet. Our standard double room overlooked the rear patio with a stunning view of the mountains close by. The bedroom and bathroom were clean, spacious and very well-equipped.
Reading rooms are well furnished with log fires (which unfortunately were needed).
We were on full board – there are no restaurants nearby. However, the choice and availability of food for all meals was exceptional, including afternoon tea.
The area has many attractions and interests from walking to sight-seeing. Guides and information provided by the hotel was plentiful and free with telescopic walking sticks available – again free.
Frau Eva and Frau Waltraud Scherlin, who own and run the hotel, and their staff took a personal interest in their guests to ensure that they made the best of their stay.
Lovely hotel, stunning scenery, attentive staff, excellent food – what more could you want?

"The sunny Schlern plateau lies surrounded by dazzling mountain peaks, wooded glens, and inviting alpine meadows"--the perfect introduction to this beautiful South Tirol region of Italy. Delicious food, excellent staff, wonderful service, fabulous views--the perfect place to enjoy hiking, walking, or just looking. The hotel offers free garage parking and a complimentary shuttle stops at the hotel nine times a day to provide transportation to the area's many opportunities for exploration. The hotel is a family-friendly hotel but the property is large enough to provide those traveling without children a secluded place to relax. Sisters Eva and Waltraud Scherlin continue their parents' life work in the same spirit with enthusiasm and optimism as they welcome their guests to this lovely region.

Travelled with family of 3 children plus baby.

Bad Ratzes is children and baby heaven. Every detail is catered for and beautifully thought out.

In no particular order some highlights:
- the kids club. Very organised and friendly.
- the walks. Particularly helpful are the heavy duty prams and child carriers you can borrow at reception.
- the ability to go horse riding in the neighbouring town ( one of the few things you have to separately organise and pay for)
- the food. Excellent and varied. Good mix of buffet and ordered meals. The baby meals are great. So is the ability to make packed lunches at the breakfast buffet.
- the ice creams in the afternoon and evening ( again free)
- the rooms ( with lots of helpful kit for babies)
- very efficient covered garage parking
- the ad-hoc events for children

So were there any weaknesses? Main point to note is that the main languages are German and Italian so little English is spoken. This is not a problem at kids club but means for instance that TV in room has only CNN as an English channel.

Other thing to be aware of is that the pool is indoor only.

All in all though, if you have young children and you like Summer mountain holidays we cannot think of a better place. Spectacular views, walks and comfort.

Bad Ratzes Hotel had been my winter holiday ski choice for many years. I usually go in January and ski the local area.

The hotel is situated in woods and away from the local village, but after a day on the mountain there is everything you want in this fine hotel.

The price charged is for everything. So you can prepare a packed lunch at breakfast time. Even wax bags are provided for you to do this. Should you appear for lunch that is fine too. Afternoon tea is a delight and the evening meal is to die for.

Chirldren are most welcome and they will not be seen very much as they take their meals with a qualified minder and play all sorts of games.

There is a full size swimming pool, and a lovely sauna. Bear in mind that in Europe sauna's are mixed and naked.. But for those of a nervous disposition please relax and after two minutes you will wonder what all the fuss was about.

There is a bus service from the hotel down to the village and the uplift which takes you on to the ski slopes. I have skied all over Europe and America and the ski area here is always quiet and delightful.

From the UK take a low cost carrier to Munich, Innsbruk, Saltzburg or Milan Malpensa and the hotel is between a two and three hour drive.
