5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Staying a lot in hotels and usually not writing reviews I really have to force myself to do so after an unexpected fantastic stay in this property. From arriving at the gate at 5 in the morning surprisingly welcomed from a manager and leaving 2 weeks later at late night(thanks for late check out) there is nothing to complain....yes there are always small situation but its always the follow up from the stuff what makes it happen, and this makes the different in this property....imagine a gardener offers you to make a picture from you and your wife sipping from a coconut which he had picked from a tree in front of your suite. So to summarise, if you want a peaceful stay with good spa, good food and unique service that's the right place. Thanks to all the shanti team - i come back

We spent 9 days at this wonderful resort last week and can only rave about our experiences. I had done quite a bit of research prior to choosing this resort as we wanted a less commercial resort than many of the hotels up north as well as a more authentic experience. The food was superb and the service and friendliness of the staff was amazing. Deepa who was often on duty when we were there could not do enough for us and really also made us feel welcome with kids and arranged fresh puree's for our baby everyday. We unfortunately did not get to experience Fish Shack which looked amazing as it was raining but The Rum Shed was a real fun experience. The spa treatments were one of the best we had had and. The rooms were really spacious and with a toddler and baby were large enough as the bathroom is huge. The only thing to be aware of although it did not worry us is that its not the best swimming beach as there are many sea urchins but the pool was great and they do offer reef shoes. The drinks and mini bar prices are also a bit steep and not great value for money.

All in all a wonderful stay and we would definitely return. Thanks to all the staff for their hospitality.

Room Tip: The ground floor villa's (123-126) are great for those with kids as direct access onto beach and...

With so many choices of pick from in Mauritius it is hard to pick a place. This hotel is situated in a quite part of the island and you feel very much in Mauritius. This also means there is not any walkable night life nearby by but that was OK, this hotel is all aout relaxing and getting an early night to feel refreshed when you leave. One thing to know if that all beaches in Mauritius are public so Sunday was quite busy with locals walking on the beach and using the safe swimming area and the jetty which surprised us. After the weekend we didn't see many people though. The hotel also welcomes children and some were very noisy (any their parent!) which meant we often went to the spa pool to get some peace. Not much you can do about that and we knew that when we booked just a shame. We had a seaview suite which gave you more privacy I thought than the beach access rooms. The rooms is big and the view to the sea was beautiful. I would say that they need to change the sunlounger on the balcony to a double seat of some kind so that you can both enjoy relaxing in the shade. We didn't find any special touches with the room, no flowers or treats for the turndown service. This don't bother us but it might others who want the special touch. The staff were all very helpful and couldn't have been more polite and friendly. We had the hotel orgnaise a car for the day to take us out to the local sights at 3000 MUR we thought that was really good value. The driver came from the local village and really gave is a good insight to local life and history. The food is good and you can order anything off two menus if you are HB which is a must. We ate in main restaurant and the bbq at the Run Shed which was fun. You must try the eggs benedict for breakfast. Drinks are pricey if you come from Europe but as we live in Dubai we thought they were OK. 220 MUR for a beer, 275 MUR for a glass of wine and about 300-390 MUR for a cocktail. We made use of the activities too, taking the bikes out for a ride one day, using the pitch and put and the pedalo, good to have all these activities to break up the sunbathing. One regret on this trip was not doing the snorkelling or the dolphin trip which we heard was very good. The lush greenery, caring staff, good food, quite location and beautiful beach made this a very relaxing holiday.

This is one of the most beautiful resorts in the world. The resort is set in superb gardens and fronted by the sea. Everything is set out that there is ample space and it feels like a private retreat. What is really fantastic is that food is served in some of the prime spots of the property such as the fish shack, which is a breathtaking spot by the sea where you dine beneath the stars with sand under your feet and fire on the beach. The spa is also a must, very beautiful and with a very talented team. Great staff and super management.

Currently spending 10 days on this wonderful hotel. Truly one of the best hotel experiences in my life.

Pro's:
- Staff is extremely helpful and professional
- the food is both very well prepared and varied , can easily stay here for two weeks never eating the same thing twice and everything so tasty and prepared to perfection
- excellent spa facilities with wide range of treatments
- well equipped gym with helpful staff
- a varied menu of activities (swimming with dolphins, jogging, bike sightseeing, yoga, tennis etc), many of them complimentary
- live music , candlelight, flowers, board games and much more making everything more memorable
- not crowded, according to staff 70% of the rooms/villas was occupied but we never had to wait for anything. Always free sunbeds, tables at the restaurant, quick room- and beach service etc with a lot of space between sunbeds/tables
- free and excellent Wi-Fi, even on the beach
- we lived in a villa with private pool and it was very private and luxurious
- the staff really make an effort to provide you with things you ask for (ie my wife wanted fried onion rings which was not on the menu and they made it for her)

Con's:
- if money is of no concern for you: none. We found the prices a bit higher than expected (0,5 ltr evian water 11€ , 110gr cashew nuts 16€ etc)

At check-out, my pre-teen son was in tears and we couldn't leave for the airport before he personally went to hug several members of the staff. And I had to promise him we will be back, rather sooner than later. Thank you for an unforgettable family holiday.

There's no need to mention all of the superlatives, especially after reading other reviewers contributions. But what makes this hotel ONE OF THE BEST is the level of genuine personal attention and hospitality.

Not a superficial/trained/professional type of 5star hospitality, but genuine human empathy and interest. And surprisingly not expecting a tip or a charge for any extra service. And there was a special service, or rather a gift we received every day. At some days even several.

One day my son approached the guys at the watersports 'centre' if they would mind playing football with him. As there were no guests at the centre, they did not hesitate for a second and played a football game in the sand for two hours, 2 on 2, with goals from flip flops.:)

Another day we found two swans with lotus petals on our bed, shaped in a form of heart and made out of white towels. We appreciated it so much, that the next day, she made an elephant for our son.:)

One day our son got a 'splinter' from a sea urchin, he couldn't sleep as it hurt, so I called the reception after midnight for a doctor, they were not sure if my travel insurance will cover a night urgency trip of a doctor, so they didn't want me to spend money, instead three staff members arrived to help. Two from front desk, even one buggy driver. They pulled out the splinter very gently, while telling my son their stories from childhood.:)

Another day we ordered pizza for our son in the restaurant. It took quite long, but we realized they didn't forget, just made a mistake by giving 'our' pizza to another table. Without hesitating one of the managers came to apologize and brought us fries with ketchup on the house, saying that he has kids himself and knows what it is to wait with a hungry kid. In a few moments our pizza arrived.:)

I could go on forever.

There are no real negatives, just a few hindrances caused by having expectations and my mind set up to 'how things should be'. The service in the restaurant took sometimes longer than expected, and I had to remind myself I am on vacation time in the Indian ocean, not a european high street cafe. The beach is not a typical Indian ocean swimming beach, but rather a 'big shallow pond' as it is hidden behind the coral reef. Beautiful anyway and with lots of opportunities to do/learn paddle boarding or just relax in the water.

What was fun to observe, was that the service got 100% better when the general manager Guido was around. But he never simply observed, giving orders, but rather pulled up his sleeves and served the guests himself. Leadership by example.

Mr. Rosicky, Kunkun, Yanesh, Anan, Devika, Guido, Nishan, Michael Jackson, John, the spa lady, the cleaning lady…..thank you!

It is not fair to mention only a few of the staff members, as I for sure forgot some, some I only remember by their nickname, some I don't remember their names at all. You can be sure that anyone will go out to help as much as they can.

Shanti Maurice is a house full of many smiles and a genuine hospitality. It will make an imprint in your heart.

10 stars.
