“Enchanting villa in Tuscany”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

Not only the villa is enchanting, the small town, Guardistallo is as charming! The villa is a warm and historic place. The family allways friendly ; "are you going to the beach? here take our parasol".
The garden is well kept (which is not easy with these temperatures) and adds to the holiday spirit. You can freely use the grills in the garden. And the appartments in the garden are nice. The only thing you wish for is an airco.

The swimming pool is not big, but the children amuse themselves and the terrace near the pool makes it a nice place to spend your afternoon reading in the sun/ shade.
For the children the perfect place to hang out were the ping pong table and the football table.
We had an excellent time!

Five of us (four adults and one 10 year old) stayed for a superb week at Villa Elena. Beautiful traditional villa with large rooms. Not overly modern, but that's part of its charm. The owners are great. Very helpful and welcoming. Pool was smallish, but never too busy. Hire a bike (as a couple of us did) and bike the wine road. It's hilly, but worth it. Not sure if there's enough to do for two weeks, but pretty perfect if you want to relax for one.

the service is excellent, the owners are very kind and helpful, the apartments are clean and have a good comfortable position
the view is directly on the beautiful Tuscan hills,a good glass of wine and the sunset is magic of Villa Elena.
the pool is not large but comfortable, a few kilometers from the sea
where else is a large pine forest and the beaches are large and spacious is the oasis of the WWF.
the family vacation at Villa Elena is perfect

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2007

We stayed at Villa Elena in Guardistallo, Tuscany in May 2007. Unfortunately for us it rained virtually the whole time, but we don't hold the owners of Villa Elena responsible!

Villa Elena is a large ex-residential mansion type thing which has been split up into self-catering apartments. The apartments themselves are enormous with very tall ceilings and are very well equipped with a TV, kitchen, hob, kettle, utensils etc. The bathrooms are nice, clean and in good working order. The beds are comfortable and very large. The windows in the rooms are absolutely enormous, letting in lots of light and offering views of the surrounding countryside. However, the windows did cause a few problems when the rain came, in that they leaked! Once the shutters were employed, everything was rosey.

There are lots of facilities to keep children occupied (and adults in times of rain-induced madness - I speak from experience), beautiful gardens, cats, 2 pools, and a good-sized parking area.

The family who run the Villa are wonderful - so warm, friendly and ultra-helpful. English and German are spoken.

The Villa is very well placed for the town of Guardistallo. It literally takes 2 minutes to walk up a hill into the town. There you will find more friendly locals, small grocery stores and restaurants (I recommend La Fonda restaurant for a fun night out with yummy food).

There were a few problems with noise, in that during our stay, building works were taking place just across the road, and the builders liked to get started early in the morning, and I mean 7 o'clock early. The nearby church also liked to join in and ring its bell with great enthusiasm from 7 onwards (for some reason it liked 7.15, and 'dinged' like mad for what seemed like minutes at a time). Occasionally a cockerel would start and the resulting cacophony was just a bit silly ('bang bang, ding dong, cock-a-doodle doo!').

We found our stay to be a very authentic experience and felt that we had got real value for money. We paid just 400 euros (about £260) for 1 week including linen. BARGAIN!

  • Liked — Value for money, size, family running it, convenient location for the town
  • Disliked — Leaky windows when it rained, noise

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Villa Elena, once the residence of the noble family Marchionneschi, is an old manor with typical and comfortable apartments. Two swimming-pools (one for children) with a wide panoramic terrace over the countryside and the sea, a beautiful garden, a barbecue area, a play ground for children, a car park, a tuscan restaurant, a library and a sort of museum with ancient photos, coins and objects. Villa Elena lies in a panoramic position among the gentle rolling hills, in Guardistallo, a charming medieval village on the Wine Route, in the heart of the Etruscan Coast: Cecina Mare with its beaches and pinewoods is 7 miles far. Villa Elena is in a strategic position to reach the most important Tuscan places of interest: Firenze, Siena, Pisa, Lucca, San Gimignano, Volterra, Massa Marittima, Castagneto Carducci, Bolgheri, the Spa, the Natural Parks, the eno-gastronomic routes (olive oil and wine, like Sassicaia and Ornellaia) and the Islands (Elba), all in a radius of 70 miles. Villa Elena is 45 minutes far away from Pisa-Airport (Ryanair’s destination). ... more   less
