“KAn excellent hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2011 via mobile

I have written two reviews about Kantary Bay hotel and was very annoyed when I read the review written by BaronEast. My opinion of the hotel was an honest one. Why should I and other reviewers lie. No one has ever said there is a beach outside the hotel.A regular bus takes people to the lovely beach at Cape Panwa. Though the hotel is in a quiet area it is not a long way from anywhere How could it be its on a small island.
I cannot give an opinion on what Baroness East saw in the hotel and his room Ionly know that the two occasions I stayed at Kantary Bay everywhere was clean and my room was spotless. My husband and I will be returning next February and we are really looking forward to it

We (couple in our early 20s) stayed at the Kantary Bay hotel for 4 nights (too short!) at the end of October and it was nothing short of AMAZING! As mentioned time and time again by other reviewers, this is a little peice of paradise at great value.

The good:

We were there to celebrate a birthday and with a few emails, Ning assured me that the hotel will provide a cake upon arrival. They really lived up to their promise and it was such a sweet surprise and a very memorable birthday. I didn't even have to remind them when checking in, they had it all prepared and waiting in the restaurant fridge. Excellent service!

Our one bedroom apartment over looking the pool as well as the ocean and was clean and spacious. There were also 2 air conditioning units, one in the living room and one in the bedroom, keeping the rooms nicely chilled after an entire day out in the hot sun. The rooms were always kept very clean and we were given complimentary bottles of water + coffee and tea. The small kitchenette was also well stocked with proper crockery and cutlery, perfect when we decided to buy food at the push carts just outside the hotels to nosh on back in the comforts of the room.

The breakfast spread was standard but very very tasty. They had 6 different sausages and an omelette station as well as a very well stocked bread station (all sorts of tasty pastries). The waiting staff were also very attentive and polite, always filling our empty coffee cups and clearing off unwanted plates very efficiently. We also ate at the Laem Panwa, the seafood place around the corner and had the seafood platter for 2 (super yums!) and at 800 THB, certainly value for money yet again. Even the drinks within the hotel restaurants were not expensive by any means. The Otter bar at the Cape Panwa hotel (sister hotel) had amazing ocean views and sofas you could lounge on for hours on end whilst being serenaded by their resident pianist. As for our other meals, I could not get enough of the salad made by this lady and her daughter at one of the push carts just down the road. That, a few sticks of bbq-ed chicken and a thai iced tea from the push cart next door and we were set for the night. If the thought of eating off the streets doesn't scare you, you definitely have to try this (all for a mere 150THB). Unfortunately, I don't share the same sentiments when it comes to Sawasdee, to me it was neither authentic nor reasonable, I would have rather ate in one of the numerous hotel restaurants. Their drinks however, certainly pack a bigger punch then the ones in the hotel bar.

Coming to the beach. Again, everything one could expect from all the reviews and photos on this site also, the shuttle to the Cape Panwa was never more than a 10 minute wait. Do note that it tends to get abit dirty during low tides when all the debris gets left behind on shore. As it's near the phuket harbour, boats constantly come and go, quite entertaining way to spend an afternoon in the sun. Towels are provided at the counter and there is a volleyball net, kayaks etc, all sorts of activities, you definitely won't be bored.

The not so good:

We stated that we wanted a king sized bed for the room but we instead got 2 singles pushed together to make a large double. I guess they ran out of king sized beds, then again this didn't bother us too much. Just something to take note of for other visiting couples.

The trips/taxis from the hotel are quite pricey, again this is something to take note of when booking a tour or getting a taxi to Patong/airport etc. From the airport, we were able to take the meter taxis (yellow and blue) for 500THB. All you do is exit the airport (past all the tour counters and pushy sales people, just be firm!) and turn right to the very end of the platform. You'll be able to spot the ladies in white t-shirts and yellow top taxis.

All in all this was the ultimate hotel to just get away from it all. We expected a quiet, comfortable vacation and this is exactly what we got. We didn't even want to leave the hotel grounds!

Staff very friendly and spoke english well. Ridiculous to provide free internet which must be used in the lobby of the hotel. This type of pettiness drives you mad and can only be experienced in Thailand. Pool area great and drinks reasonably priced. Nothing much to do in the immediate vicinity so ideal for couples who do not desire an extreme nightlife. Rooms excellent. Enjoyed my stay and will come again.

In over 43 years of holidays we have never returned to the same hotel, until this year. We are just back from our second visit to a hotel which has the nicest staff we have ever had the joy to meet. ALL the staff at the hotel are happy polite and efficient, from the girls behind the reception desk, for whom nothing is too much trouble, to the maintainance and breakfast staff, everyone was a joy to meet and be with.
As returning guests we were invited to an evening cocktail event held in the resturant, where the cocktails and buffet was provided by the hotel. Each lady was also presented with a present which was totally unexpected.

all the food was of top quality, rooms and all parts of the hotel were spotlessly clean and very well maintained. This is a top hotel and no mistake.

we would recommend this hotel for anyone who wants 5 star treatment at a 3 star price.

Room Tip: we had a suite on the 5th floor of the main building, great views and easy access, but to be honest...

We have just completed yet another fantastic visit to Kantary Bay Hotel. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and the facilities were even better this time. The addition of The Bakery and Ice Cream Parlour is a sure fire success and a good place to sit and watch the sunset over the Bay. Being able to use the full facilities of Cape Panwa Hotel makes Kantary Bay the best value for money on Phuket. We can't wait to return........again!

Room Tip: Contact the hotel by email prior to arrival and explain your requirements.

This is my 2nd time to the Panwa district, first time staying at Cape Panwa, after much research we decided to try Kantary bay for half the price. Booked through Travelbag.co.uk, we got an excellent B&B deal for 5 nights.
On arrival, check in was very quick and organised despite it being after midnight, we had 2 rooms, first was was 306 which was a massive room based on 2 floors in a building by itself just above the breakfast room, bedroom/bathroom on 1st floor with a spiral staircase leading up to a kitchenette and living room area. Our other room was the regular studio room 239 (both rooms were same price), smaller than the previous but still very roomy and with all the same facilities. Our room 239 had a lovely view of the KB gardens, sea in the distant and the hill but whilst walking past other rooms in our block, we noticed that they had a wall as a view, sorry cant remember these room numbers but they were just opposite our room. There was a notice due the the floodings in BK that there was a shortage in bottled water but we were still provided with 2 bottles in our fridge which was refilled with treated sterilised water if needed.

Breakfast was good with a good variety of food and staff, as with everyone in Thailand couldn't do enough for us. As mentioned by other reviewers, there is a atm, exchange booth (much better rates than from hotel) and minimart all next door and also a little coffee shop which has sprung up since our last visit.

We didn't use either of the 2 pools at KB, to be honest we never intended on doing knowing we had full use of the beach at CP. (i wouldn't have picked this hotel had we not been allowed to use these facilities) We did take a sneak look at the pool areas though, very basic and humid so we avoided. The little shuttle bus was so handy to take up the hill to CP which the friendliest driver who never failed to greet up, even on the brave days we walked up and down the hill. Everything at CP seemed very much the same as our visit 2 years ago except the rooms seem to have had a bit of a refurb. The ever so slow tram down to the beach didnt seem to annoy us as much this time, maybe because we were only there for a short time. The beach seemed very quiet, there were always plenty of beds available with staff on hand to get umbrella's/tables etc.

We lunch everyday at the cafe by the beach and to our surprise, the thai waitress Jennifer remembered us from our last visit, it is little touches like this that make the Thai hospitality that much more special.
Evening meals, we ate at the ever popular Sawadees and James Seafood, both still excellent and excellent value. On one night, it was my OH's birthday so we decided to try the Top of the Reef restaurant at CP. A beautiful fine dining restaurant, we were told there were excellent views, as it was pitch black outside, we cannot comment on this lol. We opted for the set menu which cost 720BHT which comprised of an amuse bouche, starter, palette cleanser, main, dessert, coffee and petite fours. All was excellently executed and a steal at that price. Kantary Bay also surprised my OH with a personalised birthday cake for the night which was a lovely touch.
For the best views of Panwa, there is a new bar open next door to Chaba massage (near top of the hill) which has an open plan sofa seating area and free use of the pool table!

We didn't use any of the massage facilites at the hotel, we went back to Chaba home massage near to the top of the hill which is a family owned company with the best treatments and a much better price. Go say hi to Noo!

We only managed to do one trip this time as we were only on a flying visit, again we used JC tours to book a trip to Phi Phi island. We organised the trip before leaving the UK and for 1700BHT each, they also provided a free airport pick up and discounted price for return journey. Excellent service from JC tours but i would say for those who suffer from sea sickness, avoid the speedboat based trips, at one point i had 5 people being sick around me!!

I would advise if its peace and quiet chill time you are after, both KB and CP are perfect, I did hear a couple of Brit couples complaining down at the beach how it was too secluded and not enough to do... obviously not regular tripadvisor users! For people who like nightlife/noise etc... stick to patong haha!
All in all, a lovely return trip to Phuket where the staff made us feel like family. I would most definately return to Kantary Bay, excellent value for money and perfect place for some R&R!

Room Tip: Ask for room 306! its massive and very private
