My husband and I spent a few days at the Naka Island Resort to start off our honeymoon and we couldn't have asked for a better start! It was pure luxurious relaxation, which was much needed. We arrived late at night, almost midnight at the airport, and I was hesitant as to the smoothness of our pick up, but it was so perfect. Someone was waiting for us promptly and the car we took was very nice (not sure which one it was) and had water waiting for us. We were driven to a dock where someone else then escorted us and our bags to a very nice private speedboat, where they gave us ice cold towels to cool off. Then after a fun 5 minute ride in the dark, we arrived at a long dock where the resort staff was waiting for us. We were handed off to them in a golf cart and they drove us right to our room. Before that we stopped at the welcome gong and hit it twice to announce our arrival. Because it was so late at night, everything was very peaceful and beautiful in a unique way.
We ended up picking this resort due to some last minute changes we made in our itinerary (because of the flooding). So we really had no idea what to expect from this resort. I was a bit skeptical because I knew nothing about it, but I have to say I was completely blown away! We booked the room using Starwood cash in points but even at full price, we would say it is a bargain.
We arrived at our villa and it was absolutely beautiful, it took my breath away. We were really pleased with how everything looked and how nice everything was. The air conditioning was divine and really strong, and the outdoor day beds and private pool area was just gorgeous. I was so pleased with everything and then our concierge told us he would show us the rest of the area and we totally did not realize there was the whole back area with the showers and bathroom etc. Everything is made out of stone, which gives a really nice feel and atmosphere to the villas. I loved how the bathrooms/sinks were outdoors and all the various shower options - indoor, outdoor, and bathtub. I also really loved how there were so many seating areas both inside and outside - the hardest part of the day is deciding where to lay/sit down!
The bed was amazing, so comfortable and the mosquito netting is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The housekeeping service was very good and it was the first time I realized the value of good turndown service. There are so many windows everywhere which is awesome during the day for letting all the light in. Also one of my favorite things about the room was the "do not disturb" sign, which was a rock with a face on it, one with eyes open and the other side with eyes closed - it was adorable and really cool.
Check in was a breeze and super convenient, as they did it right in the room after we got in. We also used the spa facilities and we were very impressed with it. The facilities are huge and very nice. You really feel like you are somewhere private, exotic, and beautiful. While we were there, it generally did not seem to be very crowded, so it made it very peaceful and nice no matter what we did.
The food was delicious and definitely higher than our expectations for resort food. Obviously the options are limited as there is nothing else on the island really except for the resort. Having said that, we had no complaints about the food at all. For breakfast, my favorite thing was the boiled rice with fish - I basically had to have it every morning. We ordered room service as well as tried the different restaurants and they were all delicious! We were randomly there during the Loy Krathong festival so we were able to enjoy a special dinner celebrating it and got to set off our own krathong which was really nice. We also tried the Z Bar, which is at the other end of the resort. The views everywhere are just beautiful, so peaceful and secluded. The food at the bar was also very good.
The pool area is great too and we spent some time relaxing there - there are lounge chairs in the water with umbrellas and drink service. It overlooks the water and we really enjoyed that as well.
As some other reviewers noted, things are a bit expensive and do add up, but we didn't feel like it was unrealistic or unexpected for such a stay. Also, there definitely were a lot of mosquitos that we fell victim to, particularly because parts of the villas are outdoors, so you spend a fair amount of time outside. However, I'm not sure if there were more mosquitos than normal - we were a bit unprepared so we didn't bring any spray or anything, so I think we would have been ok if we had something like that. They have some mosquito repellant burning things at the restaurants and villas, but we weren't sure how to turn ours on in our villa.
On a last note, we have to say that Naka Island had some of the best service we've experienced! We had so many questions during our stay there, as it was the beginning of our trip, and the concierge and resort staff were more than accommodating and helpful in answering all our questions. When we forgot contact solution, they were able to get it for us from the main island (Phuket), since there are no stores on Naka, and they brought it to us. They dropped by 7-11 on our way when we were leaving so that we could get some more necessities. The staff and concierge was very responsive to everything and certainly went out of their way to make sure our stay was above and beyond what we wanted!
We would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a luxurious, relaxing stay in a beautiful resort with excellent service! We just loved it and were really sad to leave!
