“Another Beautiful Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

My Husband and I were at Mount Cinnamon the week of March 23-30, 2013. We had a 1 bedroom villa at the very top with a breathtaking view of Grand Anse Beach, The walk up is not for everyone but once you get there....it's all worth it. They will also drive you up if you just aren't into the walk. Our room was beautiful, with a balcony on each floor. The resort is very nice, clean & well maintained. The beach is spectacular.

The food was always very good. Great presentation & very tasty. There were times when it took a little longer to be served but that's just the way it is. No one is in a rush there. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Although we always enjoyed our meals, there was an extra... very small surcharge for certain items on the dinner menu. I thought this was ridiculous given that we had paid for an all inclusive trip, and no one told us this prior to ordering. It wasn't until maybe day 2 when we inquired about it.

There were a few times at the beach when you get tired of the locals always trying to sell you something... so you must be firm or they will drive you nuts.

We went on a tour for a full day. It's a little long in a van, but was nice to see everything and learn some of the history of Grenada.

Lunch on the beach was always great & the staff working there were always very accommodating. I would recommend that the staff have name tags. Think this would also make them feel special. Everyone appreciates when someone remembers your name.

Overall.. we really enjoyed our trip to Grenada & we will be back.

Room Tip: I would recommend a Hacienda or a villa on the lower part if you don't want the walk up the hill...

We have just returned from a 4 day vacation at Mount Cinnamon. It was not long enough. We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa. It had everything we needed and more. The view from the balconies was amazing. I never tired of waking to that view. The beach was spotless. The staff were eager to help you in any way. They could not do enough for us. The staff arranged an island tour for us with Chris. It was a great day and we learned a lot about Grenada, the spice island. We ate at the main restaurant and the beach club. The food and service was excellent. Four days was not enough time to enjoy all the amenities offered at this resort. My family is already planning a much longer return visit. I can not thank the staff enough for making this such a memorable vacation for us!

My husband and I just returned from a week long vacation from March 23rd - 30th at Mount Cinnamon. And while there, we were soothed and serenaded by the sweet sounds of Winter Wonderland, Jinglebell Rock and O Holy Night... just to name a few, while enjoying lunch at the resort's beach grill. It felt like Christmas in March, but all was cool:)

We totally loved our first visit to the island of Grenada. It is dry season in Grenada. Only the interior mountains are lush and green, while here on the coast it is somewhat dry but still quite colourful and beautiful scenery. The sun is not too intense, either and the temperature is around 30c with a refreshing breeze which makes it pleasant and bearable (not humid).Grenada is surprisingly hilly with many curves and bumps in the road. Sometimes it felt like we were on a roller coaster! But so scenic....

Back to the resort. We had an amazing time at Mount Cinnamon and look forward to returning in the future. Still, there were a few areas that could use some improvement. We know that with the recent appointment of Christine N. and a new Food & Beverage Director who has also just started, the resort Management is listening to guest concerns and taking its entire operation into consideration. This will only make it more spectacular!

PROS
- Idyllic resort setting on a quiet and prime spot Grand Anse beach - one of the BEST beaches we've ever been on in the Caribbean
- Our room was spacious, airy and well appointed. We stayed in a Hacienda one-bedroom suite, close to the main building - rooms were cleaned daily and housekeeping did a great job
- Friendly and accomodating Management Staff - hats off to Christine N., the new Resort Director-she made us feel so welcome during our stay. Case in point: Our flight back to Toronto was delayed by just over 3 hours- Christine graciously allowed us to keep our room and fully provided for us during the extra time. When we got to the airport, I had a chat with a guest on our flight back to Toronto. He was returning from a "nearby" resort and he mentioned that they were literally "booted" out at noon - case and point
- Food was tasty, well prepared and well presented - portions (a la carte) were adequate, a caveat is that some men may find the portion sizes on the smallish side
- Enjoyable excursions - we took the "Jamboulay" Island and the "Spice Isle's Lasting Memories" tours and got a good feel for the island and it's history. - fine weather - no rain during the day - complimented by cool winward winds

CONS
- Service was a hit n' miss - the dining/bar area in the main building was never busy but sometimes it seemed that we had to wait quite a while to be served. Several times I had to literally walk up to the kitchen door and knock for service, as some of the waitstaff seemed more interested in standing in the kitchen gossiping rather than attending to guests. Furthermore, while many on the serving staff were friendly - some, not so much - we suggest that moving forward, they all wear name tags, and have more training towards the Hospitality / Tourism industry and also for Management to have visible Employee Regognition programs etc - to motivate their team so the guests can enjoy consistent service across the floor.
- The all inclusive plan was restrictive at times on the dinner menu - the were some palatable suggestions on the menu but they came with a premium $$$ (ie. if you are on the AI plan, you must pay a surcharge for steak, lambchops or lobster).
-Finally, this seems like a minor quibble but it makes a big difference in the overall guest experience. We found a general lack of toiletries in the room. Standard AI resorts/hotels we have visited in the past in places like Turks & Caicos, Barbados and Antigua include toiletries in the room. The shampoos, lotions, bath gels, etc. in our room were never replenished. The fridge was never restocked with water or pop. We made a request to the maid for body lotion, bath gels and bottled water and she personally told us that these items were not included in the AI plan. HUH??? Whether it was a lack of training/awareness on the maid's part, or a policy of Mount Cinnamon not to stock or replenish standard toiletries in a room, it seemed kind of petty and ridiculous. We ended up walking to the local IGA down the street to stock up lotion and shampoos. I really can't understand why a 5-star resort would not offer up these toiletries and sundry items in the guest rooms...they are standard expectations of a 5-star all-inclusive resort.
-Similarly, laundry detergent was not provided in the room despite a washer/dryer present in the unit. We had to purchase it at the IGA. For AI guests who wish to do laundry, a small box of detergent would be most useful.
Based on our overall experience, we have rated this resort 5 stars but mentioned above, there are some noticable areas for improvement which can elevate this resort to a true 5 star rating! Sandals has recently made its way into the island, buying out the former La Source property, and Sandals sets the standard for AI vacations in the Caribbean. With a few tweaks, Mount Cinnamon will be able to meet or exceed the guest expectations for a truly luxurious all-inclusive vacation.

Room Tip: Hacienda one-bedroom suites are located closest to the main building. The walk up the hill is not qu...

It is so nice to hear that you loved Grenada and your stay with us. We truly enjoyed having you here at Mount Cinnamon.

We certainly value your feedback and based on our conversations while you were here, we have addressed many of your suggestions/comments. I am so sorry your amenities were not replenished while you were here as they should have been. We are in the process of getting a new amenity line for our rooms which I know you will love on your next visit. We have already instituted your suggestion to put a small container of laundry detergent in all rooms so thank you for that.

Also, as discussed we are taking the training of our staff very seriously to elevate our level of service and I believe you will notice a marked difference upon your return.

Once again thank you for staying with us. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Myself and my Fiancee visited Mount Cinnamon in Grenada at the end of February this year for a weeks winter sun. We were firstly impressed by the hotels organised airport transfer, which were waiting for us on arrival. The airport is only a 5 minutes drive from the hotel also, which is always nice after a 10 hour flight.(Worth it for the sun) On our arrival at the hotel we were given a warm welcome, all our luggage was taken off us and taken to our villa and replaced with a rum cocktail. We were then given a tour of the hotel and their facilities including the gymnasium, restaurant, bar, treatment rooms, reception etc...We were then guided to our villa which was a beautiful two bedroom, two bathroom, chic boutique styled hotel, with huge beds, satellite television, loads of storage space (with coat hangers), a dressing area, fully equipped kitchen, and laundry facilities also. The bathrooms were large and of a high quality, with huge walk in showers, almost like a wet room in themselves. The rooms come with English and American sockets so don't worry about your adapters!

FOOD!!! - We ate in the restaurant nearly every night, the options included things like fresh catch of the day, fillet steak, rack of lamb, grilled lobster thermidor and the chefs daily special to name just a few, all were reasonably priced and the portions were generous, and the service was attentive yet relaxed. Breakfast offers excellent choices which included the american breakfast, homemade pancackes and traditional Grenadian breakfast and anything else you could think of or want. Breakfast and dinner is served on the terrace at the hotel also known as Savvy's this looks over the hotels gardens and onto the Caribbean sea. Lunch is served down in the beach side cabana and was another must, it served relaxed food on the beach within your own private area. The food served included lobster kebabs, burgers, fresh grilled fish and much more.

The island itself offers activities for all ages as a couple in our early 20's we enjoy the 'lazy holiday' which consists of sunbathing. But we also enjoyed seeing the island, the hotel organised a snorkeling and boat trip around the island. We went to Mount Edgecombe which is another of Mr De Savary's properties on the island, which is a beautiful transformed Plantation which offers the ultimate in luxury. Located just outside of the rain forest and completely secluded, with infinity pools looking over the forest and over the Caribbean sea (amazing!) We also did a tour of the island, visited Port Louis, went to rum and spice plantations and went into the rainforest to see the wild monkeys. Plenty to keep us occupied for the week! The snorkeling and trip to Mount Edgecombe were by far my favourites though.

Overall an excellent experience and amazing introduction for our first (but certainly not our last) holiday to the Caribbean! We were treated like royalty at Mount Cinnamon, nothing was too much trouble, and all our needs, expectations and wants were not only met but above and beyond also. I would recommend this holiday to any family, couple, solo traveller etc... It is an absolutely beautiful get away and we will be returning and could not recommend this hotel or the island more.

P.S. We have also stayed at the Cary Arms in Torquay, Devon and also at the The Old Swan in Whitney, Oxfordshire, both are boutique hotels which offer just as amazing food, service and accommodation. These are also owned by Mr DeSavary also.

Our stay at the Mount Cinnamon Resort (through Air Canada Vacations) was the perfect setting for a relaxing and wonderful week long holiday (March 16 - 23). Our spacious accommodation with bright tropical decor was located in Hacienda 1A. It was a lovely one bedroom apartment with a full kitchen, two full bathrooms, comfortable large living area with balcony overlooking the pool and the mountains beyond. Loads of closet space, washer/dryer, big comfy king bed and large windows. Exceeded our expectations! The hotel lobby and lounge, pool area, bar and dining room are open concept yet feel intimate, casual and comfortable. Very funky decor.
All the staff are extremely friendly, very accommodating and provided great service. We normally do not choose all inclusive vacations but we did this time. Breakfast (lots of choice) was very good with a lovely view. Most days we ventured down to the beach by mid-morning to relax and soak up the sun and sea - both were spectacular! The hotel's beach cabana on Grand Anse Beach is the best location and on the best unspoilt beach on the island. Lunch at the beach club was delicious - daily grilled fish or fish and lobster kebabs or salads or sandwiches. All excellent and made to order. We enjoyed a variety of blended fruit drinks, rum punch, bottled water and perrier - always available at the beach bar and always served with a smile. The beach furniture was very comfortable too - lots of options available both in full sun, full shade or half and half. The sun is intensely hot so having enough "shady spots" was very important. The "Dive Grenada" dive shop was located 1 minute down the beach and provided 4 excellent dive trips for my husband (an avid certified diver). He loved it. An added bonus, we both had amazing massages at the massage cabana (located on the property, beside the beach club) Fantastic! By mid-week we felt like exploring. We rented a car, arranged by the hotel, and did a full tour of the island (incredibly mountainous with loads of switchbacks) but spectacular scenery and interesting historical sights. Well worth the whole day. Grenada is a beautiful island to explore and we felt very safe. Great experience. Our dinners at Savvy's at the hotel were very good as well. The menu changes mid-week although more variety would be appreciated by the all inclusive guests. The ambience at night is quite different than at breakfast with the mountain breeze, the lighted trees and the stars over the ocean. Lovely. You have got to try the local ice cream for dessert - nutmeg, pistachio or chocolate. Yum! Christine, the Resort Director, was amazing and was happy to assist with our every need or she just checked in to make sure we were happy. Great public relations. So refreshing to get this personal service - a wonderful benefit at a smaller, more intimate resort. We highly recommend a vacation here. Will definitely be back.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the location of our hacienda suite in 1A. It was close to the restaurant and to the gym a...

We completely enjoyed a beautiful week at Mount Cinnamon. We were in Villa 10 which has a stunning view and was well worth the extra steps. The villa is beautifully decorated, spacious and well equipped. The staff were all very pleasant and most accommodating. The location on Grand Anse Beach was ideal and convenient to the Spiceland Mall with it's grocery store and shops. Breakfast was good and the ambience very nice. We enjoy trying a variety of restaurants so had just one dinner at Savvy's. Dinner was very nice with it's lovely evening view and good food. We enjoyed several lunches at the Savvy"s cabana. The grilled fish was always nicely done. Drinks were very good, too.
Grenada is a beautiful island with lots to see and do. The people are great. We highly recommend a vacation here and at Mount Cinnamon. We enjoyed it so much we plan two weeks next year!

Christine the manager was so nice and happy to help with anything. Twanell was assisting with every need. And down at the beach club, Wadell was amazing and got whatever you needed and helped with the kids. friday night bbq at the beach is a highlight.
only things to be aware of is the very basic breakfast and manageable walk to their nice beach setup.
