“Grenada Grand Beach Resort, Grenada”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2007

After seeing the reviews on the Grenada Grand Beach Resort prior to leaving to be married at the resort, I couldn't help but be a little confused. My parents had been there in January 2006, so I knew first hand that they had a wonderful time, the weather was fabulous, the facility was beautiful (and you really couldn't get closer to Grand Anse Beach), the staff was quick to help whenever they could...and the locals were extremely kind and friendly. So to read the negative reviews of this resort prior to getting married at the resort was needless to say, a little disappointing.

We arrived at the resort Jan 14th, 2007. The flight was a direct flight from Toronto -- we were picked up at the airport and taken right to the resort (10 mins away) where we were met with rum punches. The check in was fairly quick for Carribean standards -- travellers should always be aware that things in the Carribean always seem to be a little slower.

The resort was neatly kept, the pools were beautiful, the ocean couldn't be closer to the beach front rooms, the beach was one of the most beautiful I had ever seen, the staff were friendly and curtious, the manager was on the facility at all times if there was any sort of problem and the food was fabulous (buffet or a-la-carte). In Grenada, all inclusive is much better to go by as the food could be expensive if you weren't on an all-inclusive plan. The resort was quiet -- you never had to fight for tables or spots around the pool or the beach. What a refreshing change!!

The island is a wonderful place to explore -- the dive shop provided a wonderful half day of snorkling. Amazing underwater statues, baby squid, lots of fish and three dive sites all in a half day. A trip to the Grand Etang Rainforest and 30 minute guided hike to the Seven Sisters Waterfalls was well worth it -- and a refreshing swim was a nice way to spend some time. A local company, Carib Cats, runs a nice evening sunset catamaran cruise with drinks and food. A great view of the island! A half day trip took us to the Nutmeg Processing Plant, Concord Falls, Crater Lake in Grand Etang, and a spice plantation. Insight Tours was kind enough to organize the trips for us -- and a large group was able to receive a discounted rate.

The wedding itself was beyond our expectations. The photographer, food, drinks, marriage license, minister and flowers were included in our wedding package (which we received for simply booking a beachfront room). Our wedding planner was kind enough to arrange our trip to obtain our marriage certificate, making the process quick, painless and efficient. The wedding was on the beach, and the resort arranged for a beautiful arch to be hand crafted for us. They really took care of every detail perfectly.

Grenada was the perfect place for our wedding -- and the Grenada Grand Beach Resort was the perfect place to have it. I have attached a few photos just to show how great it was. I would have no issue recommending this place for any one. On top of that, they are in the process of upgrading the resort to a Crown Plaza -- which only means this place will get better and better!

Just returned from a relaxing week visit to the Grenada Grand Beach. The arrival at the airport was quick and painless. A quick 10 minute transfer to the grounds of the Grand Beach. The check-in ladies were friendly and four couples were checked-in within 25 minutes. The grounds are very well maintained. Our room was on the St Georges side of the complex. We were happy with our room. We had a problem with the razor adapter for 110volts; the service guy was there to repair it within 20 minutes. The resort is undergoing renovations but nothing that bothered us at all. They were installing new beds, furniture and tiles in some of the units. Our unit was in pretty good shape although the beds were a little less comfortable than we are used to at home. The prices at the resort were quite high ($100EC each for buffet supper) but there are many reasonable places to eat and buy groceries with-in walking distance. The beach in front of the resort is fantastic and the fantasy pool was great. There were always lots of lounge chairs and usually an available umbrella for shade. The resort seemed quite quiet when we were there; there wasn't a lot of entertainment or activities going on at night. We would recommend The Nutmeg Restaurant and Ricks Cafe (across the street- try the nutmeg ice cream!!). We had a blast at the Gouyave Fish Friday. We took the local mini-bus to St Georges then transfered to #5 to Gouyave. The Flying Fish was great and there was one place that had enormous Lobster!! There were some local musicians and everyone was having a good time. We got lucky and caught a mini-bus back as they don't always run late- we were going to hire a taxi. The Island Treasure day tour was great booked through Insight Tours with our fabulous guide Dexter. He knows all the history of the island. It is a great way to see the best sights on the island. We will definately be back and would stay again at the Grand Beach.

Just got back, having arrived new years eve. Went on Air Canada Vacations - flight and transfer to hotel were smooth and quick.

Check in: Long line up to check in at hotel. Had requested 2 double beds, had emailed hotel directly and got confirmation from them. Got assigned a room with 1 king size bed, even though at check in I asked them to confirm the beds! They basically lied so I wouldn't take up any more of their time. Trekked to the room on far side of resort, up stairs with all our luggage to find the wrong room. Took hours to sort out. Eventually about 5 hours later (9.30pm) they got us 2 rollaways for our kids and told us to call in the morning to see if we could get another room. Everybody except front desk were very apologetic about room assignment (guest relations, housekeeping, bellboy).

Next morning we were assigned a much better room in a better part of the property and right next to the lappool. It was a beachfront room which is definitely worth the small extra cost as you can literally walk out the room (we were on the groundfloor) to the beautiful beach.

Beach: Grand Anse is beautiful, wonderful swimming, great for walking. Yes, you have to drag your beachchair to the beach but the security guards offer to help and the reason is because it's a public beach, as are all beaches in Grenada. Anybody can sit on the beach in front of the hotel, thus the need to keep the chairs on hotel property. We went to several other beaches on the island and this is definitely the best, although Morne Rouge/BBC is also a favourite of mine.

Food: Except for our kids having breakfast there once, we didn't eat at the hotel. Drinks were very expensive - $38EC for 2 non-alcoholic fruit punches for the kids is excessive. We found plenty of lovely restaurants within walking and driving distance.

Room: our first room was falling apart; the 2nd room was in better shape and quite comfortable, though basic. Housekeeping was very efficient, did a great job and seemed surprised and grateful to be tipped every day. The island is expensive and the people don't earn very much. We rented a fridge for $5/day which was great. The room came with a safe.

Pools: the fantasy pool area is beautiful although we didn't spend any time there. The lap pool is in the centre of the hotel and we sometimes swam at night there.

Staff: mostly very friendly and helpful; inefficient front desk staff, although most are friendly. It usually takes a few attempts before things are dealt with.

Tours: we booked a one day personal tour with Mandoo of Grenada Tours - it was lovely being driven around the whole island and seeing everything in one day by somebody who has a passion for the environment and Grenada. He took us to a lovely restaurant next to the old airport for lunch - the Estuary (reservations needed as it's out of the way).

Location: hotel is on the best part of the beach, there are small shopping malls within walking distance and busstop is on the corner.

General: Grenada itself is a wonderful, fairly low key, non-touristy place. The Grenadians are wonderful, very friendly and helpful. We got stuck and lost driving around, but always found somebody who would help us and sometimes go out of their way to help. As for Grand Beach, I would stay here again if I could be guaranteed the location of my room as some rooms are in less than optimal locations and seem quite separate from the hotel (those next to the vendors market). They are renovating slowly, so hopefully the next time we go back the rooms will have improved.

OK we just came back from this hotel; staying over NY for a week. We had an ocean front room ($300); did I mention an ocean front room? Apart from the view, which is amazing, the rooms, service, food, pools etc were quite bad. We booked directly with the hotel after seeing their website; golf – none, day/night tennis court – there is one broken-down court but there is no light, business centre – one desktop computer in the lobby that you have to wait for; massage – none; Jacuzzis – not working. Food was below average. Mind you the breakfast and lunch were so bad that we never actually had dinner there. Concierge person was not even local and she did not know much about the place or good places to go also our reservation for NEW Years eve got all messed-up and we almost ended up with nowhere to go (so book your own dinner don’t ask the hotel to do it!). So unless you are paying something like $100, this place is not worth it! Get a local villa or pay-up to Spice Island resort. This is a motel on the great beach (oh and they don’t have umbrellas on the beach and you do need to bring your own bed to the beach from the pool).
Hope this is helpful.

Location is good, right by the beach. Rooms are better than average. Service is slow, took two hours to get a room. Finally got another. We didn't sign up for the all inclusive. We heard other reports that the food was average, it's ok. But we really got hosed when we bought the buffet. We paid $250 EC for two adults & 2 small children, a bit much for me.

We stayed at the hotel during Christmas 2006. I read a few reviews previously of this hotel that were not complimentary however I was willing to compromise for the the great beach location. Yes it was like a motel on the beach, yes the food needs improving, the staff were great, the pools were great, the beach was fantastic. I would commiserate along with the other guests about all the flaws but speaking to at least a dozen other guests we were all grateful and happy to be here. My room could not have been any closer to the beach, it felt just like my cottage back in Canada, cozy and intimate. Many of us were all jaded travelllers that had been many places and seen many things and were all excited to be in an out of the way place like Grenada. I wish this place was at least 20-30% cheaper as then this would be a great value. My two small children had a great time even though it was hard to get bananas at the buffet. To stay here you have to be very tolerant and have an open mind. Other places on the island might look better but the grass always appears greener on the other side. In conclusion the holiday was great and we are happy and relaxed. Andrea, Toronto, Canada
