“Tired and uninviting resort”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

Just had a beautiful week in beautiful Grenada.....a little disappointed with the Rex....very cold and uninviting common areas, rooms are very dated. The beach chairs are mostly broken, bit of a search to find good ones. Nice pool area with a bar. The beach bar that we would have preferred to use is not in use so it was quite a walk to the pool bar. The best food is the authentic Carribean cuisine. They do have the best hot sauce! Loved the beach and the location but I would find a different resort. People are great and helpful but someone needs to spend some money on this place

Room Tip: Ask for beachfront room but still expect long walk and stairs.

Grenada is, thankfully, not an uber popular destination. Yet. It is a little piece of paradise, where language is not an issue, residents are kind and helpful, and sightseeing is plentiful.
This Rex resort is dated, but homey. Nothing flashy. Nothing insane. Just quiet peaceful easy living for the week you are there. The simplicity is what was attractive for us. The grounds are lovely - certainly the water sanctuary is beautiful and lovely to look at and walk through.
The rooms are adequate, although I would NOT recommend the hillside rooms, it would not stop me from going to this resort. Ask for an upgrade if you have a special occasion to celebrate. Our upgrade was wonderful and done with kindness, along with a bottle of bubbly!
The food was minimal, yet completely satisfying. We enjoyed everything we had, and there was plenty for all. Lunch is served by the pool area, and the restaurant there is stunning as it overlooks the beautiful pool, and the beautiful ocean on both sides. We loved just sitting there.
The pool is raised and offers a superb view of the ocean and island mountains. There is a ramp to use if you have a stroller or wheel chair.
We chose to book our rain forest trek with Dexter, whose office is on the beach. Make sure you attend the Air Canada tour info, so you are aware of pricing for excursions. Dexter will try to get what he can from you, but we had no issues with our trip as per his promises. I would HIGHLY recommend the Seven Sisters trek. It was an adventure we will never forget and we were very very glad we had brought our water shoes to wear. It was very very muddy and slippery (take the walking stick for sure) and certainly intense trekking at some points, but worth every moment-providing you are capable of hiking extreme terrain. Swimming in the 'pond' near the falls was an 'aha' moment!
The island trip that is offered by air canada is an all day adventure, and seemed to be enjoyed by most. The repetitive comment we heard was the amount of time spent on the bus was too much. There are mountains everywhere, so going from point A to point B is not easy.
There are rain and sun showers daily in January, but not so bad to endure at the Grenadian. We could see more inclement weather towards the rain forest and mountains, but not so bad where the Grenadian is located.
The beach is beautiful, but you do have to watch where you enter the ocean, due to rock/coral formations near many parts of the beach. The walk toward the Aquarium restaurant is incredibly awesome and soul worthy.
Grande Anse beach looked lovely, but we arrived there on a rainy day and could not fully enjoy the beach. We actually took a water taxi from St Georges to the beach, which was an awesome way to see the island as well, These taxis only run when there is a cruise ship in port, and we lucked out on that. Great experience.
The Grenadian was the only affordable place for us to stay. There are many apartment type rentals available in St Georges. Our friends have stayed at the Blue Lagoon for 6 years straight. They love it there.
Overall, loved our time there. Staff were very kind. It's not fast paced, so don't expect fast service. It's very relaxed and comfortable. Cudos to management for keeping it simple

Room Tip: executive suites very nice. hillside rooms not so nice. beach room apparently good.

So, this resort, based on reviews read here before we came, is pretty much what we expected. Nothing special, but as mentioned before; beautiful beach, lovely pond with some beautiful herons, and other birds. Room is adequate, view of garden is lovely. Now food, yes a little bland and lacking variety, but so far fish has been flavorful, as well as other entree dishes. There seems to be a lack of things we might consider essential in our home, breads, cheese, crackers, snacks of any kind during the day save a few sandwiches at Tea Time which I have noticed most people are not interested in. The biggest disappointment is the need to portion control drinks including non alcoholic, I have had to ask for water in a larger glass and I am usually met with a puzzled look, like it might be against the rules. My husband enjoys wine with dinner, and seems to have to beg for more then one glass which can only be served in a very small wine glass. Seem like petty things but it's the small things that count when you are considering your next vacation.

Two thumbs up for this hotel! Great location - literally two minutes from the airport, we found ourselves in a tropical paradise. There were two very clean beaches, a lovely pool area, spacious and immaculate grounds, friendly staff and good food. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing vacation where you don't have to wake up at the crack of dawn to claim a chaise lounge, The Grenadian by Rex is a perfect choice. What a breath of fresh sea air. ;) Where else in the world does the General Manager and Food and Beverage Manager send you off with a hug and well wishes? We've travelled to many countries over the years and found this hotel wonderful for it's star rating. Softer pillows and mattress's was our only ask. When mentioned to the General Manager, we we delighted to discover our beds remade with mattress toppers the very same night - how wonderful!
We also loved the cats! A little touch of home. :) Ginger became quite a celebrity amongst our group. We all wanted to take her home.
Bravo! to Ms. Marsh and all of her staff. Not only for providing for a very memorable experience, but also for attracting the most personable guests' from Canada and the UK.
We wish you much success and all the very best!
Diana T.

Room Tip: We stayed in a hillside room. It was wonderfully quiet overlooking beautiful trees and flowers.

Let me start by the location , Hotel only 2 minutes from airport (great our flight arrived at 930 pm was nice to get right to hotel and be able to enjoy a meal and some drinks !) Dinner is served to 10.00pm. also not many flights flying in and out don't have to worry about airport noise. The beach is very nice and relaxing only wished the beach lounge chairs were more comfortable like the ones at the pool. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food was always buffet style mostly choice of chicken or fish all was very good and tasty( just wished they had some steak and shrimp) . Finally my husband and I travel this time every year celebrating our anniversary we have been to many Islands and resorts we loved this resort and can't wait to go back .

Good hotel for relaxation. Quiet, clean, with helpful staff. Limited but tasty dishes. Ask for the ice cream as it was not on display so you will not know unless a server asks if you want. Try the local soups.Great beach. Small but lovely pool. Great view from the pool/beach bar. Nightly entertainment is limited but good. suits family, the retired and all else who need to relax. Less then 5 minutes from airport.

Room Tip: Beach front rooms - you are on the beach. The hillside and other rooms were also great though - bird...

Absolutely perfect in all respects, but, do not ask the night manager for any help - I am diabetic and urgently needed some carbohydrates at 1am - I asked for anything - sandwich, cake, crips anything to bring my sugar level back up - he did not help and said there was nothing available - I went back to my room and made a drink of tea with lots of sugar. NO THANKS to the night manager.
