“Excellent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

It was exactly as you see in the adverts, beautiful tropical gardens and excellent beach facilities. We upgraded to one of the rooms on the beach-fabulous, waking up to the palm trees, sand and sea, worth every penny.
The inclusive option was good value.

Most of the reviews written about this resort are an accurate description. But, please keep in mind, some people have higher expectations than others. It is an older resort with some minor issues. Air Transat had an all inclusive price offered for this resort that was a very good value. It is a 3 star resort.

The Grounds: Are indeed beautiful, but yes, lots of walking and stairs. We enjoyed the exercise but some people could find this a problem. Beach is lovely! There is a lot of coral, but also lots of places to enter the sea on the sand without the need of water shoes. The ocean was lovely and warm. The sea can be rough which did affect swimming, snorkeling, diving and other water sports activities. There is lots of shade on the long stretches of beaches(if you so desire) The resort was quite full so there were not enough chairs for all.

The Food: This is a small resort and therefore food choices are limited. Chicken, rice, potatoes, fish, vegetables, salad and occasionally pasta for dinner. One special entree a night was also offered. Dinner reservations have to be made every morning, which you do when you go for breakfast. MEN MUST WEAR LONG PANTS AND A COLLARED SHIRT,(sandals are allowed) for dinner only. Lunch was a similar version of dinner at the buffet restaurant. Lunch is also offered at the pool area- hamburgers, hotdogs, sandwiches, fries, salad and dessert. Drink selections are limited, but good.

The Rooms: Check in did take a very long time, be prepared and patient! We did not get the room we requested at first but went back later that day after everyone was checked in and did indeed get what we asked for. Please try to be patient if you don't get the room you requested, want an upgrade or there is something broken. A lot of rooms don't have safes or they are broken but are available at reception to use. Rooms have fridges, which are empty. Stores on site to buy water, pop etc. Most hillside rooms have showers only, ocean view have tubs as well. All rooms have hairdryers and 110 outlets. Some rooms have clocks, not but not all.

The Staff: We found ALL the staff to be very friendly and helpful. I commend them all, especially with having to put up with some demanding guests.

The Tours/Activities: Water sports center at resort offers diving, snorkeling, sailing, kayaking. The guys here are very nice. Diving trip was good as was the snorkeling trip we did with them.
We did a bus tour of the island which was informative and a great way to see the beauty of Grenada. We did a sea\snorkeling tour on drive your own inflatable boats- fun!
All tours, as well as anything purchased here, was priced in East Caribbean or United States dollars. Canadian currency must be exchanged.

The resort is very close to the airport, but very few planes fly in or out in a week, you will not be bothered at all by the close proximity. FYI- departure tax is included in your all inclusive price. This is a fairly quiet resort, not a lot of daily activities or night life is available. It is a great place for a relaxing holiday.
Grenada is an extremely beautiful, friendly, rugged, natural island!

Room Tip: if you can, upgrade to a sea view room. the view, as well as the room was worth it in our opinion.

Loved the Grenadian! Beautiful older property in the British-Caribbean tradition. Literally 2 minutes from the airport. Yes, the check-in process took time (150 people at once), but why didn't people just stash their luggage and go to the beach for lunch??? It's not like the staff didn't have everything ready to expedite check-in, they did! If you don't like to wait, take a cab; couldn't cost more than $10.
Resort is very clean, staff is wonderful, entertainment was great. Managers reception in the courtyard was an enjoyable event, as was the barbeque (fantastic chicken & ribs). Buffet restaunt food was fresh and well-prepared daily. Always fresh fish and a carving station for dinner, both outstanding. Took a great half-day tour with Peter (from the cab station); visited Fort George, waterfalls, rum distillery and St. Georges. He is knowledable and polite and a very good driver on the winding roads.
We upgraded to an ocean front room and it was worth every penny. View of the beautiful beach and the harbor; fun to watch the ships pull in and out. Lulled to sleep every night listening to the waves and the tree frogs. The ocean was wavy and visibility was poor, so we didn't do much snorkeling and diving, but the crew in the dive shop was very accommodating. Thanks to divemaster Ocean and Charlson. Many thanks to the housekeeping and wait staff; everyone was terrific.
In all: a beautiful island with warm, gracious people. Will definitely return and stay at the Grenadian.
PS: don't listen to the complainers, they will complain wherever they go!!!

This hotel is good value. Close to the airport and has just about all the facilities that are needed for a relaxing week. The hotel itself looked very tired the last time we went...but we put up with that for the diving that is available at this hotel.
It has its own dive centre on the beach... long may that continue. We've been back on 3 occaisions due to the diving and ease of dive site. Every dive is just 10 mins off of the beach by boat and the quality is excellent. Whereever you dive... you will be the only boat there for the day. Excellent.
The hotel staff are always very helpful. The restaurant staff are chatty and look after you. The rooms could do with a little sprucing up. But adequate for what we needed,

Room Tip: We had a sea view room. But they tend to be quite a hike up a lot of stairs from the beach.

We just returned from a week at the Rex. We had a fun vacation! There are some pros and cons to this particular resort.

Pros: The wait staff at the Rex have to be the most happiest and welcoming people we have ever met on vacation. They remember your name and always have a pleasant disposition. The pool was a plus, it was not crowded and our 3 1/2 yr old daughter just loved spending hours swimming there. The views are amazing! The resort is nestled up on a cliff overlooking the Caribbean sea, you can see the cruise ships in the distance. The food was very good and we found that there was variety. The homemade soups were so tasty. We took a trip with 'Dexter' he is a local who is on the beach. We just loved him! He took us around and showed us many spots on the island, very reasonable price and he has an air conditioned van. You must find 'Dexter' and book a tour. Also, I have to mention 'Janice' she gives the BEST massages and very affordable. Also, she gave our little girl polished fingernails/toenails that were so cute!!!
We went to the Aquarium restaurant and had a delicious fresh lobster lunch. It is just down from the Rex and only a few minutes to walk. The resort is not crowded which is also a plus.

Cons: Check in was over 2 hours long. The hotel is in need of some updates and T.L.C. it is a little outdated. The resort is a little understaffed, one bartender at the pool bar is just not enough. Dress code for the buffet restaurant for the men in particular is an inconvenience. We didn't have a television in our room until late the first night, no alarm clock. We tried the Thai restaurant but found it a little pricey for what you received.

All in all, the hotel was good and the Island of Grenada is just paradise!

We just came back from a beautiful two week holiday at the Grenadian, and I have to say it was just wonderful! First off I must mention that the check in was the worst I've ever experienced, but the staff were excellent and are working at improving this. I’d like to thank Lizanie and Crystal for their help at the front desk.
The beach was absolutely fantastic!!! The Caribbean Sea was warm, and the walk along the beach we really enjoyed because of the beautiful views of the coastline. We love to exercise, and found that the walk along the beach was so good, that we didn't even bother to use the gym. We would like to thank Leslie who organized beach volleyball and pool volleyball. We really enjoyed both.
We selected the Hillside room and were very happy. It did have a balcony, but we found that we were at the beach most of the time, so never used it. Our room was kept clean, and the bed was firm but comfortable. The room we had, had a shower, which worked just fine for us, as we prefer showers. One thing to mention is that not all rooms have an in room safe, but they do have additional ones at the front office for no extra charge. We did have a problem with our safe, but would like to thank Allum and also Coleman for fixing it right away. With regards to the property, it is quite large, and there is quite a bit of nature to enjoy. We were very lucky and happened to come upon a nest of sea turtles just hatching and heading out to sea! We also enjoyed the large grouping of ponds on the property which we could walk around. We loved to feed the fish in the morning, and watch the birds come in and catch the fish. It was just awesome to see this so close up and be able to get photos! We just loved the beach, and really liked the fact that it is so spread out. We never had an issue finding a beach lounger, and we weren't bumper to bumper with people. The grounds are a little hilly, with many stairs, so if you have a mobility issue, you would be best to pick an ocean front room.
With regards to the restaurants, the food was very good. There was plenty of variety, and the chefs do a great job. Everything was fresh, and you could tell made from scratch. Excellent homemade soups! Fantastic BBQ on Saturday night with Baby Back Ribs and Chicken! There are two restaurants to eat at, one at the front of the property and one at the pool area. There is an Asian Restaurant on the property, which is a la cart, but we found we were very happy with the buffet at the Cinnamon. Dress code is in effect for dinner only. We would especially like to thank Kathy-Ann for her wonderful service and welcoming smile! Also we have to thank Addonis, as she too was so friendly and helpful! I would also like to mention that you can drink the water – no need for bottled water at this resort.
There are three bars on the property. We have to really thank Gerard! Gerard, you do an awesome job! You work well under so much pressure! We look forward to coming back and seeing you again.
I have to thank Diedy from Air Transat. You are the best representative we’ve met from the many all-inclusive holidays we’ve enjoyed. I strongly recommend the trip to the St. Georges Market and Fort Georges! Our driver Hal was very knowledgeable, and the view from Fort Georges is absolutely beautiful! Be sure to go to the market and buy spices, as Grenada is the spice island. I love to cook, and would highly recommend bringing home whole nutmeg, bay leaves, cinnamon, ground ginger, curry, cloves, and vanilla beans!
There was evening entertainment, and we really enjoyed the female singer with her backup band, and the male singer with his band. One thing that we especially enjoyed was the local drummers with the dancers. Thank you for providing local entertainment of the island.
Finally I have to say, that I loved walking the beach, and dancing at night. I would highly recommend a massage at the beach with Janice! I know she is not with the Grenadian Resort, but a private lady who does manicures and massages at the beach. There is nothing more relaxing then having a leg and foot massage at the beach, while you enjoy the sound of the surf! She is very professional, and knows where the knots are and worked them out. Her price was very good as well.
I would recommend this resort, and can’t wait to go back. I find the island has beautiful scenery, and the beach was perfect for swimming, walking, and snorkelling! The resort has so much nature to enjoy! The people of Grenada are very nice, and they really made our vacation even more enjoyable!

We went to the Grenadian on a package thru Transat Holidays. The hotel is set in beautiful surroundings and the views are magnificient. The hotel itself is more than a bit tired and dated. But it has a grand entrance and main lounge and central courtyard. The dining room overlooking the grounds is open to the natural breeze and had plenty of space between tables. Previous reviews indicated that the hotel had been largely empty - this was not the case for our visit - the entire plane was booked at the Rex and the strain on their system showed from the moment we arrived. It took almost 2 hours to get everyone checked in, and given the number of stairs there were not enough porters to help with luggage. (68 stairs to our room from the lobby) The room was clean but was missing chairs on the balcony, others did not have room safes. The beds had nice linens but were very hard. Breakfast and lunch at the Cinnamon were quite good but repetative, dinner was adequate. empty hot trays were frequent and not replenished promptly and the salads were bland. The all inclusive wines were actually quite lively which was a plesant surprise. We found the staff to be friendly but by the end of the week they seemed to be feeling a bit tired of having so many people. Dinner started at 7 PM and was staggered until 8:30 but the entertainment started at 8:30 and was over between 10:30 and 11. The hotel seemed to be geared to an older crowd.

On the PLUS side. The beach was beautiful although the seas were rough during our stay, making it unsuitable for children. With the hotel full, beach chairs were at a premium. But the beach towels, refreshed daily if required were big and fluffy. There were security people on the beach to shoo away any over pushy vendors - but for the most part the vendors were very polite and moved on.

We felt that the value for our dollar was very good. There is no place else on the island that could compare. Transat Holidays had a rep on site every day to book trips and answer questions.

If Grenada is on your wish list - this is a very cost effective option. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and as long as you are not expecting 5 star accomodations and service - this is a perfect platform for a visit to this beautiful island!

Room Tip: We had Ocean View which were higher up and did have a spectacular view. Our room was 88 stairs down...
