“Beautiful and charming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014

I have been in Ko Samui several times but for the first time I stayed in Hacienda. Its a cozy little resort with charming, French owner so English or French is not a problem here! Hotel is located just few steps from the sea.... so nice... Well recommended. Coming back for sure!

Even though we stayed in the last garden room of the property, it was just a 2 minute walk to the beach. The room had all the basic amenities that one would require and it was clean. David is a friendly guy who gave a tour of the hotel and the room. Breakfast was plain, fresh and tasty. I enjoyed all day at the sunbeds provided. There is also a massage hut beside the sunbeds, which you can enjoy after a nice swim in the sea. You can enjoy the Mae-num market on Thursday. Bikes are available at the nearby laundry and make sure you wear a helmet if you are going anywhere. Sun rise, walk on the mae-num beach and a swim; right at your hotel - perfect recipe for peace. I had a wonderful holiday!

Thank you so much for your nice review, as you said, we try to give the best quality in the rooms, the breakfast and the lunch, we cook everything on demand, and not make a buffet for breakfast, that's why they are not included in the prices but they are much more fresh than in a buffet, and that's why people likes them ! So as you you know it, our customers can have breakfast whenever they want, there is no limit time to have breakfast like in lot of hotel.

Hope to see you again next time.

Best regards,

We had a great time but couldn't get away from the feeling of what could have been.
The positives.....we booked a beach front room and the location is fantastic and could not be better. The beach is great and the sun beds comfortable and plentiful. Free in room wifi was appreciated. The location is excellent, close to the small village and a good number of beach front restaurants and bars. We ate at the Chill out cafe almost every night and we loved it - highly, highly recommended.
The not so positives.....the rooms and bathrooms are showing signs of wear and tear and they are small. No tea and coffee facilities, no hairdryer, basic hangers, nowhere to rinse the sand from your feet when walking directly off the beach etc - not big things in isolation but when added together the difference between really good and average. Breakfast was pretty good but not included in the room rate which is irritating, as is the practice for charging for each additional cup of coffee. Half of the staff are genuinely friendly and charming, the other half sullen and disinterested. A beautiful beachfront location but no sign of service or preparing the beach area and sun beds until 8am.
It is hard to be so critical but the feeling is the hotel is choosing to operate in 2nd gear which is a bit sad really. As I said at the start we had a great time, but frustratingly close to being exceptional.

Room Tip: Beach front rooms are in a truly wonderful location.

Dear Mike,

Thank you for the review, even if it is not all positive. I'm just surprised about the rating just because of few details, it make us down in the ranking so much and we work hard to have only very good and excellent reviews.
Concerning the rooms, they have been all painted 6 month before, so I'm surprised about your comment.
Yes the beach front bungalows are not so big but they could not be bigger as here like everywhere in the world, there are some rules for construction on the beach which not allow more than this size, and they are in the sand directly on the beach !
Concerning the hair dryer and the water boiler we have some, and give them on demand, you just have to ask for it. Before we put them in the rooms, but every weeks, one or 2 disappeared, so we give them if customers need it and ask for it.

Concerning the extra charge for coffee at breakfast, it is normal as we serve only coffees made with a real coffee machine which grind the coffee and make it, and buy only high quality coffee beans. Maybe in other hotel, you can be served several times for coffee, but they make it with a normal coffee machine with coffee in powder and filters or worth, instant coffee in small bags to put in boiled water.

Regards,

Amondie.... possibly the most pleasant person I have ever met, made certain every aspect of our day was attended to.

We loved this place:

Breakfast: Inexpensive and massive. I had 6 eggs every day and they cooked to order.

In-Between: Wonderful little mango shakes....Coconut too. Watermelon, everything fresh and made in front of you.

The Gardens: Amazingly well kept. Beautiful blooming flowers everywhere. The pictures don't do the place justice.

Clean, pleasant, friendly.....And most importantly, you lose yourself everyday. It's quiet. No one bothers you. The water is beautiful and refreshing and there's a wonderful bamboo shower to rinse off with as soon as you get out of the water. Towels are provided all day. Too much sun? Get an aloe vera massage right on the beach for a whopping 10 bucks. (I recommend Tim) - she's the best masseuse i've ever had. I powerlift and specifically took this time to heal. I got a massage every day and my body has never felt better. Please thank her for me....

My life is immeasurably changed having visited this place. And the staff of this wonderful little place were a major part of that. We will be back, and we wouldn't think of staying anywhere else....

Having spent months looking forward to our week here we were not disappointed!

Just about everything said in other reviews we agree with.

We booked a beach front bungalow and although quite pricey for this place it was in our opinion money well spent as the views to wake up to of the beach, sea and koh pan ngan were amazing.

Some people have commented on the rooms not being huge- what do they need??? We had a kingsize bed, closet, drawers, fridge, tv and dvd player and a very spacious bathroom.

The restaurant is lovely for breakfast and lunch but, as others have commented, a 5 minute walk finds a handful of equally good food options at around half the price.

The staff work so hard to keep the beach, grounds and rooms looking great and Amandine and her restaurant staff are very friendly and helpful.

That just leaves David! We had read many reviews about his attitude, especially if you are not French but hey ho, you dont go on holiday to make best friends with your hotelier! However as the week went on we did start to notice.

This was after a very blunt introduction when we arrived.

One day we were having lunch and he made a point of stopping at every table of french people to chat but completely ignored us.

Not really a bother to us but as we left today and paid our 16,000 baht bill he could not even say thank you or ask if we had enjoyed our stay.

having read many of David's responses on here we are sure he will explain that none of this is his fault but some hospitality skills are needed if you are going to run a hotel

In summary we would gladly stay here agsin and recomend it. Just try to deal with Amandine as much as you can!

Dear Sirs,

Thank you for this nice review, we hope you will come back soon.
Concerning the price of the restaurant, yes they are a little bit more than others in the village, but you eat with the beautiful view on the sea, not the view on the road like the ones around in the village, you eat in nice plates and nice cutlery too, not in plastic plates like in Thai restaurants around. But our prices are reasonable comparing to chaweng or fisherman village for example.
About Myself, yes I'm sometimes more friendly with some french customers because lot of friends, or french residents in Samui come to have lunch here and I know them good, I cannot be more friendly with customers who maybe won't appreciate it and want to keep distance, it is hard to judge if people will like it or not, I don't want to bother them. Hope you understand.
I just try to stay polite and not be rude with the customers.

We booked Hacienda Beach based on reviews here and our overall experience at Hacienda Beach was very good but not giving 4-5 stars because of ant problem and not so much of an ant problem as one of the managers did not believe us . We had a very nice private deck and we could see the ocean. Garden pathway to ocean was beautiful and very well maintained. When we were there - there were blossoms on almost all the trees -so beautiful. The room was very small but still very nice. Very nice body wash provided in the shower. Nice loungers and umbrellas on the beach- beach was nice and water was fairly clear. We ate at the restaurant at the Hacienda a few times - very good food but we did find it more expensive than most others.

We had ants on bottom of our closet and along wall out side closet which we noticed the second day and told Amadine who quickly came and saw the problem and then had one of their staff come and spray and we never saw them there again but we did have them in the bathroom.

On another day there was a cluster in the middle of the bathroom floor and my hubby went and asked for the spray - David the other manager was not happy - said it was because people had food in the rooms. My husband tried to explain they were not in the room where the bed and fridge was - the ants were only in the bathroom. David continued to talk about food in the rooms - my husband then had to tell him again we did not have any food in the bathroom. He did not come to see where the ants were but did give my husband the spray and after that we only saw one or two which is OK as that is to be expected in the tropics. The fact that he would not come and see where the ants were and continued to indicate the problem was food, is why we can't give a better rating. Had he handled the situation the same way Amadine had, it would have been much more professional and would have indicated that he cared that his guests were bothered by the ants.

Dear Sirs,
Thank you for take your time to write a review.
I noted that you said that everything was perfect except one ant problem, I'm sad to see the rating because just of this problem. We are in a tropical country and there are so much insects everywhere, I make all the hotel spray by a pest control company 2 times per month in order to limit these insects, as we know we cannot kill them all...
I'm sorry for not taking care of this case but I have so much things to manage to make this hotel running good, that's why I hire a manager, to take care of the customers and problems like this one, and apparently she did it good one time, not the second time.
Yes I told you this because each time customers complain about ant, it is because they bring some food in the room, and not only food, even some lotions or creams in the bathroom can make them come... I gave you a anti insect spray so you can spray them when you see, we cannot stay all the day in your bathroom waiting for ant come back to spray them.
As you said everything was perfect, except this little problem but for me it not justify this rating, as we work hard every day to have very good reviews and excellent reviews and to avoid the effects of this one we will need 10 excellent reviews...

My boyfriend and I stayed here for five nights while visiting the island of Koh Samui. The hotel has a wonderful location on a quiet stretch of beach with a fantastic view of the ocean. The rooms are clean and comfortable-all you need for a beach vacation :) The service is friendly and helpful, especially Amandine, the lovely French woman who works so hard to make sure her guests are comfortable and happy. Thank you for helping make our time in Koh Samui so memorable!
