We, a family of 4 (dad 37yrs, mom 33yrs, kids 12 and 7yrs) visited this resort in june '12 and stayed for 6 nights. We were picked up at the ferry pier by a female staff member in a big 4x4. She was waiting for Us with a sign with Our family name written on it. While We drove towards Mae Nam, She told Us different things about the island and its attractions. As this was Our 1st Thailand trip, it was offcourse much appreciated. Her english wasnt that great, but better than average as We found out later.
When We arrived at the reception We were greeted by 2 smiling women, Who kindly offered Us a drink and quickly got the formalities in place. We were then taken to Our room, Our luggage was taken in a golfcart. 1st impression of the resort was great. Its a pretty big place, but there are signs every where and its pretty easy to find Ur way around. We had a family bungalow and was very pleased with that. It was well maintained and everything worked as it should. We had no probs with bugs either - all the sliding windows had nets on the outside.
We quickly learned that there's a lot of loose dogs running around, but that didn bother Us - actually the opposite. They were really lovely animals and not agressive at all. We did get "Our" own dog that slept on Our porch every night and following Us around. The kids loved it.
The pool area is pure paradise. The view with the palmtrees, the sandy beach, the ocean and a glimpse of Phangan in the distant are incredible. We spent quite a bit of time here. The pool bar serves the most delicious coconut milkshakes that We came across on Our holiday there. I must remember to mention the pool bar manager, Koh. Who was always attentive and had a very good english also. The restaurant was lovely to sit in, as U had the stunnin seaview while eating. The food was good, but not spectacular - and actually a bit pricey. We did get some 20% off vouchers for the restaurant, otherwise We wouldnt have eaten there much. There are several really good restaurants just down the road, with better prices. I can recommend 1 in particular - "Johns Place", a place that got good reviews here on TA too, and situated just 200 mtrs from Cocopalm.
The beach in front of the hotel was very nice. A real bounty landscape. It was filled with vendors though that was selling everything from icecream to carpets to hashish! I dont think I look like an addict but I was approached several times by ppl wanting to sell Me hash, and They didn take no for an answer. They followed after U. They stayed on the beach though. There was a clear limit between the beach and the poolarea, and they didn overstep that. But it didn prevent Them from trying to get Ur attention and vawe U over. After a couple of days They learned that I wasnt interested and left Me alone - that was nice.
The sea itself is great for a swim - very warm - but bad for snorkelling, as the visibillity are close to zero. I was told that it was due to sediments being washed out in the sea during the rainy season.
We took a cab to Chaweng 2 times, it was 400 baht each way, which was reasonable. I found that it was actually better to do some of My shopping here, than in Bangkok.
After 6 nights We checked out. It went just as smooth as checkin in. We paid the balance and the staff helped Us getn Our luggage to the Mae Nam pier, for the Phangan catamaran. All in All a good stay and I can recommend it, cause even though its not top star luxury resort, its good value for money and U defenately get what U pay for.
