“Very relaxing poolside..but”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

This is a very well laid out, smallish resort with quite spacious rooms and a great vista. Being small there are relatively few around the pool and we were there as a group of 4 for quite extended periods by ourselves. This is also the main lunch and evening dining area and we had 2 lunches and dinners there and saw no reason to alter. Others ate at Smileys at Fishermans market and thought that pretty good. The rooms have all cooking and washing facilities and ours had 3 separate air con systems. However on the negative side the service bordered on atrocious with food sometimes not turning up for an hour after ordering and in one case someone's order being missed altogether. The staff were only ok in terms of helpfulness and generally a bit confused. We suspect this is not all that unusual for Thailand where the understanding and expression of English is way below what we encountered in Cambodia and Vietnam. The breakfasts are only adequate here, although we found they knew how to cook fried eggs well, if not poached eggs. Land transport is quite expensive.

Room Tip: Our room for 2 was at the end if the corridor (2011) and had 1.5 times the space as our friends room...

ROOM
The room I booked was One Bedroom Suite facing the sea. The room itself was very spacious. It comes with a living area, dining area, kitchen, bed room and bathroom with bathtub with jacuzzi.

Tv and dvd player (dvds can be borrowed at the reception at no cost) is available in the living area.

There was a kitchen. It was equipped with cooking stove, some cooking utensils, microwave, oven, coffee maker, tea maker, boiler and fridge. Cooking ingredients like salt, sugar, pepper and oil was not available in the room but you may request for it (charges apply). There were also a washing machine and dryer. Unfortunately clothes detergent wasnt included. You may also request for it too.

Wifi access will be given and I was told that I could connect it up to five laptop/phones/iPad.

The bathroom comes with a shower area and a bathtub with jacuzzi. It also provides you with toiletries that smells very good and relaxing. Every details is carefully arranged by the hotel. They even prepared a couple of slipper and a bag with towels specially for the beach.

The pictures of its room on the website werent exactly the same like the one I was staying in but it was okay for me.

LOCATION
One can easily find this beautiful beach facing hotel as it is located on the side on the main road. It takes around 30mins to get here from Samui Airport and Chaweng.

Unlike Chaweng, this area (Bang Por) is indeed a quiet and less happening  place. There are not a lot shops near The Sea. The nearest convenient store is 7-11, which is probably 20mins walk away. Thus, making it a prefect place for total relaxing.

There's another happening spot near here is the Fisherman's Village, Bo Phut. It is about 10-15min from The Sea.

GETTING AROUND
You may rent a bike and go around as you like but when the night falls, the road around here is a little dark as there werent too many lighting along these road. Recognizing the road back and forth may be a little difficult.

There were fewer stores that sell gasoline near here. The price was the same like Chaweng (40 baht per bottle).

Other options than the motorbike is taking tuk-tuk. You may flag one down when you see them but there were not as much tuk-tuk as in Chaweng. But you would still see one tuk-tuk at least every 10min.

Generally, I was truly satisfy with The Sea. I had a great time staying here. It was prefect!

I had a voucher for 7 nights from Groupon. We had a room in the hotel section not the villas and wow was it spacious!Lovely huge bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, lounge, dining and a huge granite spa and a balcony to relax on.I was pleasantly surprised and a washer and dryer just wonderful! So spacious,it's actually a 1 bedroom apartment.Housekeeping were superb and so efficient. We tipped them they were so good!We were 3 adults staying in the 1 bedroom so a cot bed was put in our room-surprisingly comfortable. The breakfast selection was impressive with a la carte eggs benedict or pancakes omelettes freshly cooked for you as well as a decent self selection. The pool was very nice, the beach setting picturesque with a couple of beach gazebos available-beautiful!Beach was not a very good swimming beach though-too many rocks but good for a quick dip.We were able to save money and cook for ourselves a few times-our apartment had an oven, microwave and a full sized fridge. There was a local shop 50 m from the entrance that sold a bit of everything and much much cheaper than the hotel. We caught the local transport anywhere we wanted to go-so cheap, you just hail them as they go past and push the bell when you want to get off. There is not a lot of shopping to be had near this hotel but travelling to the nearest towns was easy.We ate at the restaurant next door to the hotel and it was the worst food we tried on our whole trip. The food in Thailand was just delicious everywhere else. This was a very enjoyable stay and we would return.Very relaxing and quite luxurious.Air conditioning and everything worked very well.Loved the DVD player in the room too.Toiletries were lovely and actually better quality than the JW Marriott's in Khao Lak.

Room Tip: Corner rooms have a spacious comfortable balcony. We were on the 2nd floor so the roofs of the villas...

Today is my 2nd day stay here. On yesterday, I checked in the 3 bedroom villa & I can discribed it was a terrible experience. At first, the air-con of the master bedroom out of order. I spent mostly 2 hours to wait for the repair but it still could not work. At last, you upgrade us to a better villa. But there're still some problems in this villa.
1. The bulb of a toilet was out of order & no hot water
2. Could not flush in a toilet
3. The fuse was cut suddenly when we come back at night, they needed to stop the electricity of whole house for repair it several times
On today, the reception lady told me that the air-con of our original villa was fixed already but some guests were checked-in. They will move out on tomorrow & we should move back to it. Later, we consult with such guests that the air-con still could not be fixed. Besides, the reception officer did not tell them that they need to move to another room on the next day. I don't know why the reception lady told me about this. I am very very very disappointed about this hotel. Finally, we dealed with the manager & he let us to stay in this better villa until we check-out. I am so apreciated about this! But no more next time. One more thing, I commented on your facebook but no any reply. So I reflected it in here! Anyone who want to here, pls think about it!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

Me and my wife purchased a Groupon package for this hotel after reading the reviews on tripadvisor. Although some were contrasting, it seemed that this place was good. Now that we have stayed (last week of April 2013), we can safely say that we had a great time and the value for money is definitely fantastic.
We had booked a ocean view suite. The room was way larger than our expectations, clean and with everything that it say it was supposed to have. The staff at the hotel have been throughout our staying there, absolutely amazing and accommodating - but most of all they have been honest and upfront. The food at the hotel was excellent, including breakfast, lunch and dinner - western and local cousin (the Pad Thai Goong was really great in particular). The pool and the setting on the beach were just great. One thing about the hotel is that it is a bit on its own, and the transport that the hotel can organise upon request is of the kind with a car and dedicated driver, hence more expensive (min 500 Baht). However just across the road from the hotel there is a taxi station where you can hire a normal cab; even in this case be prepared to pay at least 300 Baht for a short trip as taxi meters are not really the practice in Koh Samui. If you don’t mind then there is another option; you could hire a scooter and that will give you a certain freedom in terms of transportation.
Some of the review we read were pointing out the fact that the hotel is just off the main road, which can be at times busy and noisy. It is true in my opinion that if you book a room on the part of the hotel that faces the road, then your experience and opinion of this hotel would be different from the experience that my wife and myself just had.
Anyway what we can say about this place that we had an awesome time and we wish we could have stayed longer. We will consider this hotel as a very viable option if we will go back to Koh Samui in the future.

Room Tip: Room facing the beach are the good and quiet ones (and the villas of course). I would discourage to...

We booked this hotel as it says it is located in Maenam, but actually it is in bangpor, and there is very little within walking distance of the hotel. Prices for taxis are double what they should be from reception, so you need to chance your luck with passings cabs. If you have a car though, they have a secured car park, which is great.

Service was on and off. No one to meet us when we arrived with bags and not really shown around room; all felt disorganised. Breakfast first day was a bit of a shambles, but good service on the second day.

It's a shame, because the hotel is well designed and looms great. Rooms are large and have well equipped kitchen as well as modern bathroom with huge spa bath. Furniture had some signs of wear, but nothing too bad.

If you don't care about being away from everything, or have your own transport, perhaps you will love it. We just wanted to leave, and booked somewhere nearer to where we wanted to be.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

Our initial thoughts about the hotel were good when we saw the photos online and saw via booking.com that it was on Mae nam beach. It was our last four days in Thailand and we wanted to go and stay somewhere lovely on Mae nam beach to enjoy our last days, we had stayed there previously and it was very beautiful. The hotel is quite considerably far out from Mae nam, the beach is actually rocky in the water and not really swimmable. We had to constantly get taxis to Mae nam and back costing quite a lot every day, not what we wanted for our carefree last few days. This wouldn't have been such a problem if the hotel was not charging extortionate rates for the taxis. We had come from the five star bophut resort and spa and our taxi was considerably cheaper from bophut to the hotel when booking through the bophut than it was just from the hotel to Mae nam. When I queried the prices, the staff on duty sent us out to the taxi company across the road which was shut (as evening) and the whole experience was not what you'd expect from a 4 star hotel. The pool area is not well kept for, our parasol was broken and the loungers, etc, look very tatty. We ordered lunch at the sea view restaurant and the service was terrible. Staff can barely speak English, as sweet as they are, communication was a problem. The wrong food arrived, then taken away, then we had to order something else and wait another half an hour. When they finally served the rest of our meal, they told us that what we had ordered was off the menu so they made something else...why did they not check with us first that this was ok? Breakfast wasn't much better, service was bad and they seemed understaffed. I don't blame the staff, more the manager who was nowhere to be seen and didn't seem to be doing a very good job of managing the hotel. The rooms are nice enough, though tatty in parts for a new hotel and our room smelt of cigarette smoke when we checked in. The jacuzzi in our room was broken on check-in and the bathroom window wouldn't shut. Also, our 'double' bed which we booked was actually two singles pushed together, the bed is pretty hard and not so comfy. The decor is nice but it's not being maintained. There we stains on the seat cushions, sofa, etc. Water isn't provided in the rooms, the minibar is selling them though for 120 baht!!! More expensive than even the 5 star resort that we stayed at. Overall we are dissapointed and wished that we could either leave and actually go to Mae nam, where we wanted to stay or that the whole experience of staying here could be improved. Other hotels offer free shuttle services, but not this one. The manager needs to take control of the hotel before it deteriorates further. At one point by the pool , we saw a member of staff jump in fully clothed and swim a length, then got out. Very odd. And not what youd expect from a 4 star hotel. We wish we hadn't booked this hotel. It was the little things in the end that annoyed us, such as bad English and the staff not understanding us, no help with our bags when arriving, staff with no direction or management, things breaking in our room, no nearby shops or restaurants, trying to charge so much for a taxi. No water in our room and the unswimmmable sea and beach full of seaweed. We sadly won't be back.

Room Tip: If you do stay here, insist on a sea view. Though we would suggest going nearer to Mai nam as you...
