“Tyhe best in Europe!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2011

On arrival at the Akrogialli Apartments, we were greeted by Stella, the owner's daughter, who immediately made us feel at home and offered us a drink and some lunch before we went to see our room.Luncj was served on the decking beside the crystal clear sea with a view across the bay that was truly breath taking. Whiile we ate, The owner Thanassus arrived and introducwed himself prior to escorting us to our room.
The room was everything and more that one would expect from even higher rated apartments. Spotlessly clean and with a balcony which commanded a wonderful view across the bay to the mainland. The beds were comfortable and the en suite bathroom was well equiped.
Undoubtedly, the food prepared by Fortini, Thanassus' wife, was a highlight of our stay. we have spent many holidays in Greece and her cooking was as good as we have ever had anywhere. When Thanassus claims that it is the best in Europe, we would not disagree! Fortini is a superb cook and her moussaka is the best I have ever tasted. It is difficult to single out individual dishes for praise as the same high standard is maintained throughout the menu. Fortini very generously shared some of her recipes with us and we look forward to continuing to enjoy her cuisine.
We were mwde to feel part of the family rather than paying guests and annot recommend the Akrogialli experience too highly. We returned to the Uk three days ago and are already planning a return visit in the Spring. For us , Thanassus claim to be the best in Europe is easily justified. Nothing was too much trouble and the generosity of welcome was the best one could hope for. Thank you all for making our holiday so special.

Just an hour after landing in Corfu we had travelled to paradise. We arrived at The Akrogiali Taverna to be welcomed by Stella the owner’s daughter. We were quickly introduced to her Mother.
There was then the offer of being shown to our room or have a drink. We opted for a drink and were served on the decking at the edge of the Ionian Sea. The only noise the sound of fish feeding swimming and eating the occasional bread roll.
The peace and tranquillity just a few hours from a dark wet windy Manchester was something we had hoped for but the reality far exceeded our expectations.
We were then shown to our room. The room was clean has 3 single beds, an en suite and air-conditioning all the things you would expect but do not always get at more expensive apartments. The room surpassed our needs the best was however still to come on opening the curtain a magnificent view to the north of the island with its rolling hills.
After a long day travelling we decided to eat at the Taverna our usual passion is to eat at as many different places as we can on holiday. We only eat at another Taverna once and regretted it immediately so good was Mrs Monastiriotis’s cooking.
The food like the views and the tranquillity superb the Feta Roast being a particular favourite.
During the meal Thanassis Monastiriotis introduced himself to us and welcomed us to the family Taverna.
In summary the Akrogiali rooms offer a view of Greece that to many will not be seen and to those who try a great experience. The tranquillity the peace and the relaxation are tremendous. The value for money exceptional and to be welcomed by the family to their Taverna made us feel like welcome friends more than paying tourist. Thanassis described every part of his Taverna as the best in Europe the beer the food his wife and her cooking the location the relaxation and he’s probably right. We are already talking about going again if you are considering a stay here and you want a fantastic experience then press the button if you want Karaoke English breakfasts and night clubs move on.

Room Tip: All rooms have magnificent sea views

My Boyfriend and I just returned from Corfu where we had the most amazing stay in Akrogiali in Boukari. We booked last minute and were hoping for an authentic Greek experience, with no loud drunk people, great food, fantastic views, clean and comfortable rooms and friendly service..... we thought that was impossible until we arrived at Akrogiali Boukari. Thenasis and his family work around the clock to make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible. Nothing you ask for is a problem and the views are just simply breath-taking. As it is hidden away from all the busy resorts you really need a bicycle, car or motor bike to get around the Island but these are cheap to rent and there is so much of the beautiful Island to see if you want to avoid the tourist resorts..... if you don’t want to avoid them you are near enough to enjoy the entertainment but have a peaceful night sleep in this Oasis of calm.... waking up to the sound of the ocean every morning (or afternoon) was exactly what i needed to rejuvenate my soul! Overall I was so pleasantly surprised with Akrogiali, it made our stay so perfect!! And apart from that it is so heart-warming to stay in a place where every member of the family works together to make other people happy…. And they do!! 10 stars!!

We booked with no knowledge of this unreviewed place to stay, and chose it by location (overlooking the sea) and seeking a quiet holiday away from the usual resorts. A car is worth having as Boukari isn't blessed with public transport.

Despite arriving eight hours late (we had phoned ahead re. the flight delay), well into the early hours of the morning, our hosts were waiting for our arrival, and greeted us warmly, stopping up to chat over an ice-cold drink and watermelon (and the offer of a meal being prepared).

We were shown to our first floor room (too many steps for mobility difficulties) and very pleasantly surprised. It was a large room, with the usual twin beds. It was spotlessly clean, had shutters and glass doors, a good-sized fridge, plenty hanging space and a balcony overlooking the sea (all 8 rooms have a sea view balcony). The aircon was an unexpected bonus.

We woke to a wonderful view over the clearest water, and went down for breakfast (additional charge) near to lunch-time. This was no problem - in fact, nothing was a problem. You can't beat a breakfast table overlooking this view, surrounded by boungainvillea.

The family-owned and run taverna (same name) is second's walk from the rooms. It has the usual indoor/outdoor-but-covered layout, with the bonus addition of a large wooden deck at the edge of the sea. Food was delicious and fresh (fantastic Bream) and the unhurried atmosphere relaxing. There's the odd rush of Greek families especially at the weekend, and people boating in to the jetty from other parts of the island to eat, but it's often quite quiet too. Food seems to be served from morning to as late at night as guests want to eat. Thanassis is a great host, very welcoming and proudly declares everything served at the restaurant as "the best in Europe" (said with a large smile!). It was hard to argue with that.
