“Welcoming Hotel & Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

Upon arriving at the hotel the outside decor was poor, however, we were pleasantly surprised by the spacious four poster bedroom and adjoining bathroom, both were of a high quality/standard. We had evening meal in the restaurant on our first night and the food was excellent, especially the steak and deserts. The staff were really helpful and friendly throughout our stay and all in all we had a great break.

Thanks for your recent review. We are currently aware that the outside decor of the hotel needs attention and this will be taken care of as business permits. Good to hear you were pleasantly surprised with your four poster room and bathroom. We have just completed a total refurbishment of our first floor guest bedrooms and are delighted with the outcome. I will pass on your comments regarding your excellent food and service to all the team.

Please return soon.

Lovely old victorian building with lots of original features. Very tastfully redecorated leaving the original features intacked. The comfy'ist bed i've had the pleasure to sleep in. Excellent and very polite staff. Excellent large hearty breakfast. Room and ensuite very clean. Good array of drink making facilities. Highly reccommend this Hotel and will be staying again in the not to distant future. 5 stars from us.

In view of the many disparaging reviews here, we (on a delightfully sunny afternoon in Silloth) decided with some trepidation to lunch here and we were most pleasantly surprised by the very friendly, helpful staff and great quality food - all at very reasonable prices - a medium sized (175ml) glass of a very good house S. Blanc was only £3.25

The staff, unasked, even went to the trouble of re-arranging a table so we could have a view of the Green from a window.

We cannot comment on the bedrooms etc., but for lunch, you wont better this in Silloth.

This was our 1st overnight in this hotel although we have visited it many times for a drink and food. The staff were most welcoming and pleasant. From arriving till leaving the staff were very helpful.
The room was very nice with plenty space and was spotlessly clean.
Breakfast was 1st class with plenty to eat and plenty choice.
The only down side was we found both the lounge and dining room very quiet and feel it could benifit with soft back ground music.

Room Tip: upgrade to a refurbished room if possible

This hotel is possibly the worst i have stopped in and the Manager is definitely the rudest and most unhelpful. I have stayed in many Hotels all over the world from 3 Star to 5 Star Plus. I allow for some not being upto excellent standards but most are always clean and staff generally try to be helpful. NOT the Golf Hotel !
My room stank of stale urine and when i told the manager he couldnt care less. I told them the shower was either boiling hot or freezing cold they told me it was fine. They dished me up the worst breakfast (photos ) and said it was fine .On not one occassion did they apologise or try to help. On the 2nd day i became very ill with sickness and diarreagh and had to check out early. The manager refused to refund the 2 nights i was booked in for even though i had only eaten there breakfast !! refused any blame .. i did not want compensation just my money back but they have this covered in their booking Contract ! No Refunds .
The rooms are very small and very basic i was put in one of the oldest with an awful view (photo) I would never stay here again i would rather sleep in the car . The Management need sorting out and giving a lesson in customer relations.

Room Tip: Dont book here

We stayed here while touring Cumbria, and basically wish we had not bothered, on arrival the receptionist continued a conversation with a waitress, while checking us in, very rude in my opinion, onto the room - don't bother the smell of urine knocked us over, furniture was old and shabby, and the window would not open, we asked for another room but were told there would be a upgrade fee, why should we have to pay even more for a decent room.

The food in the hotel is ping and ding, nothing to write home about - the following night we stayed at the Wheyrigg Hall hotel nearby and it was brilliant, clean, great food, service.

The Golf hotel could be a great hotel with some cleaning and a good management team.
