we picked this bed and breakfast for the friendly description by the proprietor (formerly a manager at ritz hotels) of his special touches and care for his guests. Unfortunately, this appears to be well-tuned ritz hyperbole, and we received lukewarm treatment, fairly standard breakfast, and a rather unremarkable room in a rather standard, albeit large, french house of stone. It is fairly newly built, but not all well, in fact rather we had a rather cheap bathroom with many broken hooks, drain, etc. We also had the surprise that the wine left prominently displayed with glasses in our room with no price or information actually cost 30 euros upon checkout. Overall, if you cannot find another place, it is not bad, but I suggest you do not book it for the charming website alone, it is pretty outside, but you don't really feel made welcome outside of you room other than breakfast. I think this is a very standard B&B with no special effort nor nothing of note about breakfast (coffee, bread, juice and jam) and it is 4km out of St. Emilion. The location is convenient for parking a car and eventually we had bikes that the somewhat more helpful tourist office arranged for us--they are a bit more responsive to emails. As for our guest house, once our deposit was charged, I could get no reply to email requests for help in planning winery visits, touring by bike, etc despite the owner's stated love of helping guests explore the chateau etc. offered on the website. Over breakfast he tehn said we should have reserved our chateau tours for the higher rated chateau in advance! then he bragged that he did not have to do anything to attract guests but to put up a nice website and people just booked directly with no further effort on his part. Sadly, we paid more than several B&B in town with rooms free for the same period and stayed in a less special location. While this guest house has some charms, it does not live up to those marketed by its website. if it helps you, we also looked at the inn at ch. franc-mayne when we visited to taste wine and found that for not much more cost, we could have stayed in that very posh location... next time!
