“Great hotel, great staff, some construction next door”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2008

This is a great hotel - amazing rooms that actually look like the pictures on the website. Great staff - they booked our overnight train to bangkok for us (which included taxi to ferry to bus to train). Thank goodness, b/c I don't know how we would have done it! They also booked us a day trip (canoeing, snorkle, hiking, elephant riding, etc) through a local place at a great discount. Breakfast is next door, and good. Beach is clean, but rocky (not good for swimming). View is spectacular. Room has coffee & tea & A/C works well. Bathroom is great - shower nice & double jacuzzi (which we didn't even use b/c shower was nice). Has a small pool (not for laps, but great to watch the ocean from & cool off from). Good chairs to sit out on with umbrellas. We stayed in the middle-middle suite that has an enclosed porch. Thought we would miss the balcony, but this worked out better! Loved it, b/c could be outside on the lawn at the beach or upstairs in A/C with a great view and windows. Also, Bo Phut is a great location - enough restaurants to eat somewhere new every night from probably 2 weeks (and good food), but not dirty like other beaches. 7-eleven close. Only drawback was the construction at the 2 hotels next door. Very loud, and a bit disruptive.

This is a cool place to stay in Bophut. It is at the end of the Fisherman's Village - so you can walk to the restaurants and bars. We stayed in the Amber suite, which was very well appointed. We had our own deck that looked out on Koh Phangan.

The staff is very helpful. You can get Internet in the office downstairs. The breakfast coupon to nearby Capre Diem restaurant was great.

Really good bang for the buck!

  • Liked — Value. View. Decor.
  • Disliked — Bed a bit uncomfortable. Beach outside not great for swimming.

B1 is a small but perfect beachfront hotel in Bo Phut -a tiny place which was once a fishermen's village and, whlst its still small enough to avoid the crowds, today has some of the best restaurants & boutique hotels on Koh Samui.
We had one of the three top floor suites [the Amber] which was every bit as gorgeous as the hotel web site photos and had a patio looking out over the beach & ocean that was so totally private you could sunbathe topless or even without clothes if you wanted to. Staff were wonderful - kept the hotel spotlessly clean and couldn't do enough to help.
Internet is free if you want to catch up on email, and they'll rent you a moped to see the island, or their tri-maran to sail in the bay [and they'll even teach you how to sail it...]
Its at the quiet end of the beach - so you can walk to the restaurants [try the Shack for some of the best steak you'll find anywhere, or the Smile if you want to eat Thai food at tables on on the beach from a squeaky clean kitchen]
If you want big resorts & rows of beach umbrellas, there are a couple at the far end of the beach, but Bo Phut really isn't your scene - try Chaweng .
B1 is perfect for anyone who wants a gorgeous small hotel with wonderful service - we miss it already

We loved staying at B1. We booked the family suite. The rooms where very large and extremly comfortable. The hotel is small and its right on the beach. I think its the best end of bophut. The staff are amazing and will do anything for you. They love kids. I have two children aged 3 and 1 and B1 couldnt do enough for us. We stayed here for two months. We are very sad to be leaving. At least we have lovely memories of Samui and the kind Thai people we have met. I am booking to come back next year.
Keep on smiling B1 your special.

We stayed for 15 nights for the last 2 weeks of January 2008. I agree with the previous reviewers. except for the one looking for bathrobes - but I guess those are not the things I look for in a vacation. We did get bathrobes in our rooms in Bangkok and Phuket - but they were also twice the price. Overall good value for the money and staff who go out of their way to help you. Not "luxurious", like a 5-star, but the rooms were clean, large, nicely decorated and large and exactly as depicted on the website.

We stayed in the Minataka room. The staff are all excellent, very friendly and will do everything for you. They let you use the office computer for checking email, etc., they will get your laundry done (30baht / kilo or 50baht if ironed), and they will even drive you places (same prices as the taxis).

The location is great for access to restaurants - we ate at almost a different place every night - except to return to a couple of favorites. Not one bad meal.

The Bophut beach is not the best if you like to swim (sand a bit rough and water not very clear). We went to Chaweng, Lamai and Choeng Mon. Choeng Mon was the best for a nice clean beach to hang out on for the day. Several places will let you use their chairs for free. Not too busy - and a few different restaurants and beach hawkers to supply all the eats / drinks / clothing that you require.

One of things I liked the best (compared to our Phuket experience) - was the charm of Bophut. You are amongst locals. Each night the kids would come out to the beach to play, fishermen were out each night, etc. It was very charming and comfortable - loved the area.

Have to say was very disappointed with B1. After reading so many good reviews we were expecting much better service. Room was nice - (we stayed in Alnilam), but no added touches. We actually got married whilst their and even though they advertise a honeymoon package - we did not get any of this - just a few flowers on the bed the following night (so a bit late).

Other guests from our wedding party stayed the The Waterfront next door and they supply lots of little finishing touches - dressing gowns, toiletries, lovely breakfast, and flowers on your bed everyday!

Would go back to Bophut but not to B1.

My wife and I stayed for 1 weet at B1. A huge room with a fantastic view on beach and see.
Quiet place for romantic couples and familys with small children. B1 is situated in a small Fisherman Village.
A wide range of DVD's available at reception, so we used our DVD player quite often. Lovely and helpful staff.
