“Only For Hobits”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2007

Went to stay at this resort on the 5th Dec for 8 days. On our arrival the owner was out (fair enough his wife just had a baby) but none of the thai staff left to look after things spoke any english. One tried to show us to our hut, which we had booked a beach front superior. What she showed us was a tiny hut big enough for a hobbit, that smelled so bad of mould that we nearly fainted, behind a dirty pool which lead to a filthy beach front with broken and shabby equipment. To make matters worse, his thai staff were sleeping all around on the only hamocks that weren't broken and also on the bench outside our hut. When the onwner finally did arrive we complained about or supposed booking for a 'deluxe beach front bungalow'. He said we could chose from the ones available, which they all seemed to be, and they were even actually smaller and in worse condition. One of them you would have to sit on the toilet to have a shower! At a price of 1700baht, you can get so much better for your money. The place is not walking distance to anything and 1km to the nearest shop. The owner also informed us he had no cook so there was no food available. Why he had so many staff laying around the resort and the beach front was so dirty and the place in such disrepair is beyond reason. The pictures on the web site are very deceptive. it looks like paradise but its not. would not recommend.

This would have to be the BEST place to spend your Thailand island holiday. Walk 10 metres from your beachfront bungalow to the ocean. Just 2 minutes to shops, quiet at night time. Friendly owners make you feel like part of their family. Will definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.

In fact our plan was just to stay for three nights at Como Resort but we stayed for ten! We hadn’t even warned our host that our arrival would be at 7.30a.m. but even that didn’t phase her. She simply set about making us welcome and looking after our every need. Our experiences at this small scale resort were really enough to write a book on. Location .. Excellent, our chalet was just two paces from the beach. The nearby airport created no noise problem what so ever (I had wondered about this when we booked). Within easy walking distance to the two piers for boat trips to surrounding Islands or mainland. Room Facilities..The room’s fridge was really appreciated and the AC system and fan was very efficient. We had no wish for a TV but understand that most chalets had them. Rooms were thoroughly cleaned each day and bedding replaced every other day. The extensive menu was well presented and good, it was really a struggle to justify eating elsewhere! . The three staff... absolutely delightful, hardworking, full of good humour and fun and they take a good picture! Service...Nothing was too much trouble. Taxis were passing regularly but Dang would book one within minutes if required. Likewise she was able to book hire vehicles that arrived within a few minutes. On deciding to fly back to Bangkok before returning to the UK, Dang even booked flight ticket for us to collect from the airport and sorted out excellent accommodation for us at the Baiyoke Suite Hotel for our last night in Thailand The beach.. Swimming in the first 15mts is no problem, beyond this footwear would be advisable due to rough coral surfaces. A two seater canoe was available, it was good for reaching the huge sandbar about 75 meters from the shore. Being at the opposite end of the bay to the Big Buddha there are very few people passing by on the beach. We certainly recommend this resort. Especially if you want a quiet location with a traditional feel, within reach of busy resorts if you want to visit them. For us this was all we wanted for a very hot two weeks in April. Other times of the year might be different. We had some doubts about sea water quality on all of the island’s beaches but we hope to return!!!

This is possibly one of the best resorts in koh samui. I stayed for one week, then had to come back for another week because of the hospitality of the owners. Everything was great. Beautiful location, secluded, yet close enough to the action. Very convienient. They treat the customer like family. Bungalows on the beach. Open restauraunt and bar. They accomadate you for whatever your needs. 10 out of 10

Stinking dingy shed with rubbish shower. The duvet on the bed was not clean and there was a cigarette butt in the toilet when we arrived. Nice view, but unfortunately could not swim in the sea as the water is too shallow and there are rocks beneath the surface. There is nothing to do down the road as its full of girl bars and very poor restaurants.

The picture of the pool on the website is the greatest piece of camera trickery. In reality it is a very tiny and dirty pond that is full of the owners kids and their friends. If you do stay here (in the owner's back garden) please try not to disturb their large group of children as this is primarily there play area. with toys everywhere, children screaming in the pool and often sitting next to your hut.

If you want to stay in Ko Samui we were recommeded the lodge in boput village.

Very poor value for money at 20 english pounds a night.

It was now the 3th time we stayed at Como, and it will not be our last. The first time I visited Samui was 15 years ago, and the Island changed a lot - not always in the possitive way...

It's still a very beautifull island, but places like Chaweng and Lamai became far too busy for me. Big Buddha beach however kept it's charm. The bungalow operations over there are small scaled - no big swimming pools and things like that. The reason why we prefer Como is that it offers the best value for money on this beach. The bungalows are located in a nice garden, and offer a level of comfort you will not find elsewhere in this price range (DVD players, hair dryers,...). Ok, they could be bigger, but it's not a 5 star resort after all ;-) (if you are looking for this, Saboey might be your thing) The biggest advantage of this place is in my eyes the shape ; a big beachfront for a few bungalows, so the bungalows have a very good seaview or are directly ON the beach. This is these days hard to find in Samui (and nearly impossible in Phuket) The place is family run, and you can always go to the manager if you need advise. They have a very good restaurant and especially the breakfast menu is exceptional good for Thailand.

One negative thing : in summer it is not always possible to swim in front of the resort due to the low tide, you will have to walk a couple of 100 meters to the left. In winter there is no problem.

  • Liked — their "no rules" policy, you are free to do what you want
  • Disliked — in fact, nothing...
  • Tips/Secrets — try to book their cheapest rooms, they have the best location (strange, but true)
