“Excellent stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

For our last week in Thailand we decided to spend a bit more and stay at Zazen. Money well-spent! The rooms are gorgeous and luxurious. The resort is on the quiet north side of the island with the nightlife and shopping only a 350-400 baht cab ride away. Beach is lovely and pool is beautiful. We enjoyed the small size of the resort and the fact that there were not many children there.

Overall staff was friendly, grounds well-cared for. A side of caution for those who may have mobility issues: there are four steps to manoeuver down to get to the bathroom hat may be an issue in the middle of the night.

In addition, we had read lots of reviews complaining about the bugs in the bathroom but this was never a concern for us. Maybe the time of year we were there? Would highly recommend!

Room Tip: Would recommend spending the extra money for the deluxe bungalow as they are metres away from the be...

Not to be confused with the Zazen Brasserie formally in Central Festival Chaweng (which is now reopening at the new development, The Wharf, "hurray"!) that I reviewed before; this is the resort and spa in Bo Phut, Koh Samui.
This resort is set away from the main ring road and as soon as you turn into the drive you could well be in paradise. The grounds are beautifully decorated and maintained. The walk to the reception area is a blissfully peaceful stroll along a walkway that spans paths full of Koi carp and wonderful lotus flowers.
The reception staff are very welcoming, efficient and attentive and the reception and bar/restaurant areas are beautifully and tastefully decorated.
We were there for an organised dinner, which was five courses of some of the best presented food I have seen on Koh Samui. I will admit that I did not try some of them, as they were not to my personal taste but I was surrounded by very experienced diners and hoteliers who waxed lyrical about it all and were very impressed. High praise indeed when it comes from what is, effectively, the competition!

We stayed at Zazen boutique resort for about 9 days during our honeymoon and we loved it. The staff was very helpful and the restaurant on the premises is really amazing and located right on the beach for a spectacular view.

We stayed in two of the three different room types. Our first 5 nights we spent in an beach bungalow which has a great view of the beach and the water, direct access to the beach from your own personal front porch and an outdoor bathroom which is great. The rest of our stay was in a deluxe garden villa which is s bigger room type located in the hotel garden. We preferred the garden room because of it's size and comfort but the view cannot be compared with the beach bungalow.

The resort is located on the northern side of the Island where the beaches are very thin and the sand isn't as nice as Chaweng or Lamai beach but the water is clean and without any rocks or things you could hurt yourself with.

Overall a very nice stay in a great boutique (26 rooms) resort.

We chose the Zazen based upon a recommendation from a friend at home. We were looking for something luxurious but not large and also with close proximity to other restaurants and bars etc. this was a perfect choice. Far enough away from main Bophut but not isolated and, for us, all walkable.
As for the Zazen...absolutely outstanding. We stayed for 12 nights and the service, breakfasts, staff and the garden villa were all superb. We couldn't recommend this highly enough and would certainly stay again.

Room Tip: Garden villas are large, beautifully appointed and more private than beach front.

ZAZEN resort ticked every box for us, outstanding service, perfect location and surroundings, beautiful room, delicious restaurant and right on the beach. Absolute perfection, will be staying here every visit to Koh Samui.

Room Tip: All of the rooms looked amazing, however I couldn't have been happier with our deluxe beachfront...

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2014

My wife and I spent 8 days at Zazen in October, and what a wonderful 8 days they were. Bophut beach is far more relaxed than the other two 'big' beach resorts on Ko Samui, and Zazen was for our money, top of the list for this beach. The hotel is on the beach in lovely grounds, with lots of flowing water and ponds. The rooms all seemed very nice, we had a garden Villa, which has a separate lounge area and a lovely bathroom which around the top of the wall is open (but with netting to stop the mozzies). The rooms are not 'perfect' like a big business hotel, they have a nice relaxed 'resort' feel, with nice toiletries, plenty of space and a very comfortable bed. The restaurant was really good, it was tempting to just eat in the hotel, they have a Thai and a western menu,we didn't even bother with the western menu - we can eat that at home (but it did look nice). We just ate the Thai food which was very nice at a very reasonable price, but I did have a couple of western style deserts, which were seriously amazing, both to look at and eat. The Spa area for those interested was also very good, it is run very well, with beds in a raised area, effectively up in the trees, I don't normally bother with massages, I leave that to my wife, but even I had 4 massages as they were so good. There were plenty of nice comfortable loungers on the beach with umbrellas, and none of them were far from the bar!! The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and once they got to know you, they were happy to have a chat. I used to ask for some pomelo for breakfast, and after the first day, it was brought to the table each morning, almost with a drum roll, and a big smile. The owners are always on site, checking if everything is OK, the staff were friendly, the food was great, the rooms were lovely - so did we enjoy ourselves - absolutely, and would we go back again, yep - tomorrow!!!!. Thanks to everyone who made this so special for us

Room Tip: The garden Villas were nice as they were a little bigger than some of the others, not quite so close...

We came to Samui at the worst time – in Novemeber, the season of rains. But Zazen Boutique Resort & Spa made our stay one of our favorite vacations.
To make a long 9 days story short I will just mention what impressed us. Fast check in with refereshing towels and drinks. Room #5 – nice seaview and local fishermen neighborhood (curious to observe). Immediate reaction to any request (for example, because of a high humidity couple of our pillows were smelling badly – we asked to change them, and it happened during half hour, we discovered it after dinner, there was also a call if the new pillows were ok for us – yes, they were.)) The location of the hotel and the public there is quit, so it’s good for a privacy feel. When we needed a taxi, the reception was taking care of it. Fast. The restaurant is so good, people from other hotels come there. The esthetical side of serving dishes, the delicate tastes are very impressive. Plus, when you’re waiting for the food, managers and waiters come up to you and entertain you with informative positive conversations. During the dinner there are Thai dancers impressing you with delicate national performance. We arrived at the fool moon holiday, so during the dinner we were proposed to say “thank you” to the sea by putting on the sea water surface a special candle that we were then watching floating away. We were also lucky because there was a special night in Zazen hotel, so we enjoyed a fashion show, a disco, a fantastic cabaret, fascinating fire show and the best fire works that we have ever seen – all this in our hotel. Special wow! goes to the Spa: I guess Thailand is a motherland of the massage because the types of massages that I didn’t like in other places (like Thai massage, Swedish massage and herb massage in Moscow or in Maldives) – here we really enjoyed and loved it. Plus – I saw the immediate (slimming)) and fitting) effect. All the massage girls are very kind, friendly and professional. They will give you some health tips if you’re interested. Plus, you will enjoy a refreshing drink and towel before Spa and a little dessert and tea after it. O, and when you’re at the beach – they offer some fruit canapés (for free)). The swimming pool – the way I saw it on the pictures – I thought it was big, but in reality it was small for me (for a large swimming). Plus the water was colder than in the sea, too cold for me to enjoy the massaging stream (but maybe it’s my personal taste: I like it 29-30°C). The water in the sea wasn’t clear (like in Maldives), but it was ok for swimming. When there was a stormy wind and rain – we got a phone call from the reception asking if everything was alright in our room. The last day sometimes the hotels don’t bother cleaning (what for – you’re leaving), but not in Zazen – our room was cleaned like we weren’t leaving. Some details about a room: it was unusual having a big bed on some sort of pedestal, like king and queen)), in the bathroom there are enough shelves to place all your creams and bottles (in other hotels I often face a lack of space there)), you have a bag to place your stuff to go to the beach… and even a pair of scales.) Once again – when we needed any assistance we were getting it. So bravo to the management!! And all the kind and hardworking staff! I think it’s the best service we’ve ever experienced! We definitely recommend Zazen. One more thing: after our departure we received a lovely email from Zazen thanking for choosing them, hoping to see us next time and asking if we think there are things to improve. Very nice!
P.S.: For a successful stay in Samui we would suggest to keep in mind that you’re in Thailand, so there is some trash on the streets when you leave the hotel, or you might see it also in a tinny river near the hotel; there are also mosquitos (so there are anti-mosquito spirals in the room, in Spa etc.). It could spoil a stay, but we can hardly remember it because of this huge list of pleasant things. By the way, forgot to mention: Zazen territory is so beautiful, you will feel yourself like in a fairy tail!

Room Tip: Better to choose seaview rooms (in November when the weather chages fast, and a heavy rain starts in...
