We booked a family 2 bedroom apartment for 4 of us but then our 24 years old decided to join in as well. However, the apartment was spacious enough to accomodate all of us, and our youngest (15 years old) slept on the sleep sofa in the lounge.
Having the washing machine in the kitchenette is a real bonus as was the large fridge to store food & drinks for the family.
On one night, at around 10 pm, there were fireworks display on the beach -either a normal event organised by next door hotel or a special celebrations. Either way, they are very loud and, although we enjoyed it, it could be a scare for younger children. In fact, these fireworks can be bought, alongside the floating Chinese lanterns, from local beach traders everywhere and not just on Bophut beach.
The Friday night 'walking market' is good place for food, as well as the usual tourist items
Our apartment, 407, was on second floor of a 3 storey block in the Anantara Vacation club section of the resort. The hotel section was closed for renovations and although I was informed of this, I had assumed that the vacation club would either have it's own, large pool or that the pool of the hotel would still be available for use as it is an 'outside' facility. Instead, the Vacation club pool is just a small, 'plunge pool' sized facility which I never saw anyone using. To be fair, I was informed as follows:
During Anantara Bophut Closure for renovation, from 16 April to 15 November, the following facilities will still be available for the guests staying in Anantara Vacation Club Bophut:
- Room service from 06.00am to 11.00pm with a limited menu
- All day dining at the poolside (same menu as room service)
- Fitness center
- Housekeeping as normal.
Activities available at the property, needing pre-arrangement:
- Kids Club & Baby Sitting service (24hrs notice)
- Dining by Design, special event (a minimum of 24hrs notice, depending on the number of guests involved)
Activities available outside, needing pre-arrangement:
- Tennis (24hrs notice)
What should have been made clear is that the large, infinity pool was NOT available.
I would have expected that there should be a free shuttle service to the sister hotel, Anantara Lawana for guests, at least during this renovation period, to have use of their pool& facilities there. Instead, I ended up hiring a car to take my family there on two days as it worked out more cost effective than taxis. Anantara Lawana had a really nice pool, beach and bar facility which we enjoyed. Was given a 15% discount on food/drinks.
I was also offered airport pick up before arrival - again, it should have been made clear whether this is complimentary or charged (and if so at what rate).
I would also have liked to have been given information, or brochure made available, about the loyalty scheme at checking in.
Once the renovations are completed, I expect the Anantara Bophut to be back to the usual Anantara excellence
