“Really just worth a quick visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

We were going to the night market at the Fisherman's Village in Bo Phut and stopped at Big Buddha before. It is okay, but not spectacular, they were either busy with renovations, or it is just really falling apart and in need of some serious maintenance. As usual with so many Thai attractions, you first have to make your way past various stalls and vendors selling a variety of items such as knock-off t-shirts, curios, food, etc. I believe it can get extremely busy and crowded, we went just before sunset, so it was not busy at all and got some amazing photographs with the spectacular sunset in the background.

“Suggestive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

I have mixed feeling about this place.
It is certainly nice but not outstanding though I really cannot say it is not worth a visit, albeit a short one.
Details are more interesting that the actual Buddha. Stuccos, glass mosaic statues are all rather nice.
I would advise an early morning visit (was there at 8.00 am) to avoid the crowds and and enjoy the place.

“Temple visits on Koh Sumui”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

An excursion with a difference. There are about 5 different temples in this one spot. Lots of stalls if you would like to shop (at a price of coarse) and others to buy eats and drinks. At one of these establishments you (or the children) can feed the catfish in the water around the temple.

“Very peaceful ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

My partner and I went to see the big Buddha during our stay in ko samui in July 2014. This temple is very much one to see up close in all it's glory. We would defiantly visit again.

“Impressive, but a little run down”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

Our 1y6m old daughter really enjoyed the size of the statute. The area around the buddah was run down (sectioned off areas with broken tiling, exposed lighting cables etc), but it looked as though repairs may (?) be planned for the future. This did not detract from the impressive statute, and we were able to watch the faithful use the bells as they proceeded around buddah. There were smaller temple areas to explore below the buddah, and plenty of food options/tourist shops to look at too.
