We planned to eat at The Hut. We were desperate to try to avoid the all the touristy-looking places that lined the road along the beach. I searched for about an hour, asking people, showing a photo from Tripadvisor of their sign, using Apple Maps, Google Maps.... Finally I used Tripadvisor's iPhone 'locator', and it took me to a run down motor scooter rental place.
Frustration ended with delight when we easily found Cafe 69. We immediately were made to feel as if we were welcome guests coming to dinner at a friend's place. The menu, we were told, was a starting point. Vivien was happy to make anything we wanted. He sat down with us, discussed our likes and dislikes, and said to leave the rest to him.
His dishes seemed to take traditional Thai recipes and re-imagine them on a new level. They were creative, artistic and absolutely delicious. He clearly loves what he does, does it really well, and we were very impressed.
