“Breathtaking scenery with wonderful staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2012

We stayed in Mantra for 8 days in January and were very impressed with this fantastic resort. Without a doubt you will not find a resort with better views in all of Koh Samui. Like any hotel there are pros and cons but in Mantra I think the pros definatly outweigh the cons.

Breakfast was lovely. Each day they provide a different juice which was everything from beetroot to carrot which was interesting shall we say!
Coffee not the best, and the tea is made from actual tea leaves which was a nice change from plain tea bags. Mantra staff could do with letting it get a bit stronger though before pouring as sometimes it didn't taste very much like tea!
Otherwise they had everything you could want for breakfast. The breads and pastries change daily and were lovely! Views from the restaurant were incredible!
We only ate at Mantra restaurent once at night time and it was very good, but it lacked atmosphere and is a bit quiet for people looking for a bit of craic

The pool was lovely ( absolutly massive too ) and the gym is better equiped than some gyms in Ireland! Sometimes it was quite busy and there wasn't enough beds to go around so during peak seasons be sure to get up early if you need a bed by the pool. Also the hotel does not have any beds or a location on the beach so you will have to find a cafe/bar with sunloungers or bring a towel and lie on the sand!
Theres a great place at Fishermans Village called the Freedom Way Bar. They don't open until about 1pm or 2pm, but most days we were there at 12 and just stayed out in their deck chairs and they didn't mind at all. They also do great food and cocktails ( be there for sunset and happy hour, the views and music are great! ) Also there is a group of masseuses beside them that do oil and thai massages for 300 baht.

Now one CRUCIAL point. You will HAVE to get taxis everywhere or else hire a motorbike or jeep/car from the hotel or a garage in Koh Samui. Nothing could have prepared us for the steep ascent to Mantra, it was like going up Mt everest!! Its right up the mountain and not near a beach at all.
However the hotel does provides free shuttles to Fishermans Village and Chaweng Beach. If you are going out for dinner however the timing of the shuttles aren't brilliant because they go roughly around 5pm and then again around 8pm which is either to early ( unless you go shopping first ) or too late. If there was one around 6.30 - 7pm it would be a much better time for people that want to spend more time at the pool or beach.
The hotel can of course bring you at a cost of 300 baht to Fishermans Village or 500 baht to Chaweng beach. Motorbike rental is 300 baht a day, car is 1000 baht and jeep is 1500 baht a day, which is very good value! However neogatiating Thai traffic is for the experienced driver only and for someone who is NOT faint hearted!!!

I would like to mention to people thinking of coming to this resort with young children that it can be quite dangerous for young kids because the walkways beside the bungalows have a large gap between them and the wall. Also for people that are not very mobile, Mantra could be quite tricky as the hills are very steep and there are steps and stairs everywhere.

The rooms are very comfortable. The beds are unbelievably comfortable. They have a combined tv and computer. Internet is very good and theres an excellent choice of movies.

To conclude we had an amazing time at Mantra. If you decide to stay here be prepared to spend on transport whether you get taxis or rent. The staff are brilliant, always smiling and happy to help you with anything. Especially at night when you come back they are always ready and waiting to whisk you up to your room in their golf buggies!! Beware of the hills espcially when you are on the back!!!

Thank you Mantra, we had a great time and have many pleasant memories of your wonderful hotel and resort!!! :)

Room Tip: Any room will have an amazing view!

Dear Serena,

It was very good to have you with us and I am thankful that you have taken the time and write a detailed review about our hotel. This for sure will help future travelers decide if Mantra is the right place for them!
It is very good to read that you appreciate that we put a considerable effort (sparing no cost) to provide top quiality coffee and tea (real leaves indeed) even during breakfast. Not a lot of hotels do this but I believe that the Guests of Mantra deserve the best!
As you have said we give complete freedom to our enthusiastic pastry chefs to create a wide variety of different breads and pastries every day. I believe this makes it more interesting for our Guests and for my colleagues alike.

As we have consciously decided to make a truly unique fitnes center, it is very rewarding to read that you appreciated it! Thank you!

At the moment we provide 15 shuttles every day (to and from Chaweng and/or Fisherman's village). We constantly ask for feedback from our Guests to make sure that the schedule is best for them so I really appreciate your comments on this topic, and perhaps a 7PM shuttle will be arranged.
We will soon start to run an 11pm pick up service from Chaweng because this was a frequent feedback from our Guests.

I am happy to read that you have found our beds comfortable, nothing is more important than a good night's sleep:)

I am really happy that you had a great time and would love to have you back in Mantra to create even more lovely memories!
Thank you for your kind words! Robert

We left the Mantra 9 days ago and I am still missing it so much and we can't wait for the day to return to this beautiful, peaceful Resort. I have to be honest and say the night we flew into Koh Samui as a family of 10 and picked up by the free shuttle bus provided by Mantra and then driven to the Resort way up the hill, I was very worried I had made a mistake in booking this accommodation for my family. BUT my worries were very short lived by how beautiful this place is, the magnificent views to look at every minute of the day, the gorgeous tropical gardens, the most genuine friendly staff members who cannot do enough for you, the pool and bar which we well used, breakfast was something to look forward to every morning (especially the coffee), the guys played squash often and made use of the fantastic gym. We ate at the Restaurant many times for lunch and dinner and tried many different dishes and loved them all, including the wood fired pizzas. Our family stayed in the WOW, COZY & LOVE rooms and all were very spacious, with free WIFI and TV/PC. Our rooms were serviced everyday and the lovely girls made love hearts with the bed sheets (which they showed me how to do) and left a flower from the garden and we weren't even in the LOVE room, small touches that make your day. It is obvious that Robert the GM is very hands on and very much in touch with his staff and guests, he even presented us with a bottle of wine with our lunch in celebration of our daughters wedding that day, we didn't even know he knew about the wedding, as our daughter wasn't even staying with us. The free shuttle buses into Fishermans Village and Chaweng are a huge bonus, as is the free Airport transfers. I have nothing negative to say about the Mantra, in fact there is so much more I could add, they certainly make you feel part of their family. We moved onto Phuket afterwards and we kept comparing everything to the Mantra which of course came out on top everytime. Thank-you to every one of you for a wonderful stay, we are 'missing it with love'.

Room Tip: We were on the second floor of the top tier, very quiet with superb panoramic views - WOW room.

We stayed at Mantra Resort over the Christmas/New Year for 10 nights and had simply a wonderful time.

The property is very new having been in operation for just a few months. The rooms are very well appointed and comfortable and all rooms look on to the sea. The "LOVE" rooms have a jacuzzi on the balcony which is simply wonderful at any time of the day but especially in the evening as the sun sets or at night.

+ Breakfast (included in the room rate) is excellent - lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, baked breads (a carrot bread to die for) and hot dishes available a la carte. The restaurant in the evening is also really excellent and the waiters/service is just right - friendly but not too keen. You can overlooking the bay which is also just wonderful. The prices are quite reasonable for the food standard.

+ Staff across the property are kind and willing to help - it was always pleasant to come back after a day at the nearby beaches and see smiling and welcoming people.

+ Free computers in each room plus WiFi around the entire property is a bonus - but frankly the place is so relaxing, you soon forget about time in front of the computer.

+ One nice touch is the free movie options in the room and books to read.

+ Two free bottles of water everyday for each room.

Minor things to watch for (and they are only minor ones):

- the property is NOT right on the beach so if you are wanting to walk out of your front door onto sand then you will be disappointed. However, Robert and his team offer regular free shuttle buses to nearby beaches at Bophut and Chaweng and quite frankly, it's quite nice to get away from the beach at the end of the day and retire to a quiet retreat.

- The desk chair is quite uncomfortable - but again you hopefully won't be spending too much time at the desk!

- The beach at Bophut can be not as impressive as Chaweng but Chaweng has become very highly developed (perhaps overly so) so Bophut is more peaceful in that sense.

- Minibar is pricey

All in all, an experience of a lifetime. Thanks to Robert and his team - keep up the good work!

Dear Ravena2006,

I have really enjoyed talking to you while you have stayed in Mantra so it is very very nice to read your review!
I am really happy that you found our facilities to be good and that you share my love for our carrot bread:)
Since your stay we have increased the number of shuttle buses (influenced by our converstaion as well) to 15 a day, so I am hapy to report that the next time you visit Mantra this service will be even more convenient!

It is wonderful to read that you found Mantra relaxing as this - together with being joyful- was our top priority when we designed our hotel.

I would like to thank you for writing a review about Mantra and would love to have you back! Robert

We had a wonderful stay in Mantra. The staff were very friendly and genuinely kind. The location was perfect for a relaxing break in the sunshine. The hotel is at the top of a hill with amazing views, as it is also away from Chaweng it is not touristy or crowded. There are also 6 shuttle buses a day to Chaweng and Bhophut so getting around is also very easy! The breakfast was perfect and the facilities were extremely well equipped, they even had a squash court!

All in all I will definately be returning to Mantra, if you are looking for a relaxing break in Ko Samui, this is it!

I have spent an amazing 5 nights in mantra. This is why:
We were picked up at the airport by their driver free of charge
We had a very quick check in ( unusual in Thailand)
We were given a room with a twin bed but on request they have changed it to a room with a king bed very quickly
The wow room has stunning view
The pool is great, there are always people around so ther is a good atmosphere (sometimes the sun deck is crowded though
The breakfast is the best we had so far in Thailand
Great food for dinner ( both Thai and western)
Many shuttles to take you to town
Great fitness room and Shaun was a great yoga teacher.
All the staff is very nice and friendly.
We will be back

Room Tip: We stayed in wow and was good

Would have to say this resort has been everything and more, the staff are always pleasant, courteous, cheerful and more than happy to help out with whatever is asked. The rooms and surroundings views are superb, shuttle bus services excellent, kids and parents loved the pool and the food great. We would definitely recommend staying here to anyone with children or without. Everything that is needed for a holiday is here at the resort, if not the staff are more than happy to help provide it for you. Robert you should be very proud of what you and your staff are doing. Brilliant vacation, Thank you. Sorry to be leaving.

Room Tip: The Cosy Room 222 that we stayed in with 2 children is spacious and superb views

Manta Samui is a beautiful resort, the rooms are fabulously modern. The shuttle service and airport transfer is an excellent service, together with free WIFI everywhere...a bonus for sure. I was quite unsure about the Spa before I got to Mantra, but the therapists are truly amazing in there and I really did feel the WOW factor. For this reason, my friend and I booked treatments nearly everyday!
As in any new hotel, there were afew hitches, but the manager Robert was excellent. He was very helpful and endeavoured his best to make sure all his guests are happy and more importantly he is always willing to listen and take comments on board.

The reception staff were fabulous, nothing was too much for them. Very courteous and helpful.

Thank you to all
