“For the sophisticated traveler in Samui”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2011

We traveled to Thailand for our honeymoon. After experiencing the hustle and bustle of Bangkok and the natural and cultural attractions of Chiang Mai, we journeyed to Koh Samui for some relaxation.

We landed at the Hansar almost by chance since our original hotel, the Baan Haad Ngam, turned out to be a deception and we decided to check out right away and look for a better place. We called Sandalwood for a room but they had no availability. They, however, recommended that we try the Hansar.

The Hansar turned out to be a fantastic experience for us. The hotel is very stylish without being pretentious. The restaurant has a wonderful assortment of authentic Thai dishes and western fare. (In fact, the chef is the former private chef to the King of Jordan) And the location, across a beach next to the Fisherman's Village with its myriad shops and restaurants is unbeatable. The service was top notch and we felt pampered from beginning to end.

Hansar is located in Bo Phut and, as we would find out later, the area is one of the best places to stay for travelers seeking some degree of authenticity and local flavor in their travels. If you are looking for a sophisticated hotel for relaxation that is walking distance to great restaurants and far away from the noisy spring break crowd of Chaweng, this is it.

Having never been to Koh Samui, Thailand or even further east than the Gulf, the option finally appeared in the latter stages of 2010 to stay in the stunning Hansar Samui for Christmas. From the airport, the hotels staff were friendly and attentive delivering a service which wouldn't look out of place in any established hotel, never mind a 6 month old one.

The infinity pool is superb for both swimming and relaxing, the breakfast buffet caters for everyones needs, the bar offered a wide selection of beverages - all though more 'happy hours' would help. All of the staff were attentive and no task was too big for them.

The hotels location also offers great access to the Koh Phangan 'Full Moon Party' - A must if travelling during the event.

Keep up the great work Hansar!

Lovely, low-rise hotel with clean, contemporary design. The location is ideal, situated as it is next to the 'fisherman's village' so that if you wish to eat out or do a little shopping it's no problem. The beach is of coarse sand, and there are hotel sun loungers are ideally situated looking out onto the sea making it an idyllic place to relax. Vendors come and go, but are not pushy and will leave if you show no interest. Beautiful infinity pool overlooking the sea.
The XL room was spacious and luxurious, and having the tub in the centre of the room with the mother-of-pearl curtain behind was a lovely design feature. I would prefer the toilet cubicle to have a solid sliding door instead of the rattan door, which though attractive, is not soundproof!
Breakfast was good, with plenty of choice. Evening meals at H Bistro were of very high quality. We had a set meal which though expensive, was a delight with wonderful flavour combinations. The Thai food from the a la carte menu was also very tasty, elegantly presented and reasonably priced. We had a complementary massage included in our package, and felt rejuvenated and relaxed after the treatment.
Happy hour cocktails are a must every evening before dinner.
All in all, it was a wonderful end to our holiday in Thailand.

After staying ten days at Hansar I can only conclude that what I have been reading on tripadvisor is true or even better and exceeding our expectations.
The rooms are perfect and very comfortable, the pool and beach stunning, the view amazing and the location perfect. Furthermore the staff and managment are so friendly and always there when you need them. The smiling starts at breakfast and finishes when leaving the bar at night. Also the restaurant is a real treat. Good food and great taste. Luxury at it's best in Koh Samui.

The hotel facility is almost 5 star but the service and the awareness of the staff is very poor standard compare to any 4-5 star hotels. During breakfast we realised that one of the self serve glass jug (juice) had a crack in it so we mentioned this to the hotel staff. May be she did not understand english as it did not spark any attention so we pointed towards the crack and told her it was dangerous to serve this to anyone. The staff then took the jug into the kitchen the few minutes later it came backout. We were so shocked to find out that it was the same jug with a crack and nothing had been done. Definatly there would have been some broken glass residues in the drink.
It was also first 4-5 star hotel that did not provide a clock anywhere in the hotel or the room, so getting up early to go on a paid scuba tour was tricky since we were both bit jet lagged from our long trip. We stayed in XL seaview room which had sweeping view of the beach and the pool that was nice. There is a small light in the room which cannot be turned off unless you take the key (card) out; then this also turns off the aircon which is not a comfortable option anywhere in Thailand. You are also provided with 10 light switches at the entrance of the room but these are not labelled bit of confusion when you try operate them effienciently. Also the shampoo dispensers needed to be cleaned as it was clogged and probably for a while. We wrote to the hotel GM but had no corrospondence so far.

Hansar Samui Resort is one of the best resorts I´ve visited at Koh Samui. Our family stayed 10 days during christmas and was blessed with high performed service at all times. Breakfast was well composed and gave a perfect start every day. Perfect service given to our children was well appreciated. Beach at Bo Phut is not very children friendly, but Hansar Pool area is. Together with well organized staff this was great living and totally relaxing! The SPA, Luxar is great. Very well organized with the best treatment and perfect rooms. Large suits which made treatment to a very special experiance.
GM; Supid made every request to a pleasure. This was topped when it came to departure- he got us to the airport himself! Will come back to Hansar every time visiting Samui!

My parents, younger brother and I stayed at Hansar Samui for three nights in mid-January. It was as breathtaking as every other review described it to be! The pool was definitely the highlight of the hotel. when you sit by the poolside, you feel like the pool stretches into the beach and out into the ocean. There is also a jacuzzi within the pool so when you've had enough sun baking and laps around the pool, you can relax to some jacuzzi treatment.

The private beach just right outside the resort is just as beautiful. There were hardly anyone else on the beach so its nice and quiet. The water is warm and clean. Right beside the beach is a massage hut and lots of water activities from jet-skiiing to kayaking. Every now and then, locals with fresh fruit and ice cream will come around in little baskets or carts offering yummy local delicacies - definitly need to try the freshly peeled mangoes for around 50baht each!!

Our family also tried the H Bistro on the first night. While it was a great setting by the beach and the service and restaurant was beautiful, I personally did not find the food as captivating especially for the price we paid. The fusion dishes did not blend well together - so the taste ended up being, not sophisticated but confusing but definitely interesting - worth the try!

I loved how the hotel was so close to the Fisherman's village! There is so much seafood and little snacks, you will never run out of food to try there. We also went to Chaweng for dinner but I found that the beachside restaurants around Bophut was better as it was quieter and more food-focused. The beachside restaurants around Chaweng were more like clubs with loud music and lots of partying. So for the young-ones, I definitely recommend Chaweng. For a more luxurious, relaxing and quiet holiday, Bophut is the place!

My parents have already planned their next holiday back to Hansar Samui as they loved it so much!
