We booked an all-inclusive two week stay from the end of November 2012. We were going to book one week but found that two weeks were cheaper than one! We have never had such good value anywhere.
We had a few problems. On our first evening we went up to our room to discover it flooded by water pouring in through the light fittings. Aparently this was due to a blocked drain on the roof terrace above. We were quickly moved to a better room and everyone apologised profusely. I don't think the building was at that time as well maintained as it should have been. Not all the gym equipment was in operation. The indoor pool is small but heated (although it would have been better a bit warmer). I swam in the outdoor pool but very few guests did (it was pretty chilly by December and is not heated)
All of the staff - reception, waiters, bar staff, cleaners were first class. My husband broke his leg and had to go to Funchal to be X-rayed and put in plaster. The hotel lent us a wheelchair and went out of their way to be extra attentive. In spite of those two set-backs we actually enjoyed our stay. Met some nice people and came home quite relaxed.
The evening entertainment was varied and better than most hotel shows and the (free) drink OK. We appreciated the fact that the background muzac was either off or very quiet and unobtrusive so it was possible to relax, read or have a conversation. We would recommend this hotel.
